Eh, I can get that added. The problem, however, isn't that folks aren't doing the timestamps right, it's that they're not doing their signatures right. The thing does point to instructions, but indeed, they could be a lot better.

Eh, don't do that... put it in the thing for you signature in your preferences. Replace the contents of the inputbox in the signature section with {{subst:nosubst|User:Jokerman/sig}}, check the box that says it's a custom signature, save, and it should show up as you intend in the preview on that page. Anyhow, that done, just sign with four tildes like you are now an it will render.

Mind, with what you have - please, don't use big text, and if you could make it shorter, that would be nice as well. I know, there are folks running around with longer, but they're... eh, special, if you catch my meaning. No need to make things worse, though. 1234 ~ 22:28, 3 April 2011

I used inkscape. It... killed... MY BRAIN! Seriously, I spent all day fiddling with NURBS in Maya and to suddenly go back to Bezier curves in a program with a completely different interface... urgh. None of the control vertices did what I expected, and none of the keys did, either... but then I started remembering, and all the NURBS got out of my brain, and I started doing ctrl+z instead of just z, and now we have ourselves a Zim! Sig Question

Do you manually add the small font span to the time stamp on your sig or can that be done on the signature itself? I don't know why the font size on the time stamp is annoying me, but it is.

Eh, put the modification into the signature box thing in your preferences if you want to modify the timestamp - mind, you need to manually tell it to do the pieces of it so you can close the tags if you do do that, which means the date will be included in your base signature, which means you'll have to sign with three tildes. I didn't realise that at the time, but it's definitely doable. And it does take one of the weirder workarounds like the first couple of options on my sig, too, so... anyhow, you want to give it four parameters, like so: Cat the Colourful (Feed me!) Zzz 07:42, 26 March, 2024 (UTC), except need to subst the times, and to pass the parameters. This required another file to do so, however.

Long story short, replace your entire signature in your preferences with

{{subst:User:Cat the Colourful/sig sig/1|{{subst:CURRENTTIME}}|{{subst:CURRENTDAY}}|{{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}}|{{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}}}

And don't use the subst:nosubst with this, because now the {{User:Cat the Colourful/sig sig/1}} is doing what that would do ({{nosubst}} is a template). And the {{User:Cat the Colourful/sig sig}} is the actual signature. (I asked Mhaille to hack up the test, fixed it, and renamed it. I hope you don't mind) 1234 ~ 13:38, 6 April 2011

Hmm... problem is, I'm not sure how to fix that. Everyone has different monitors, see. Could perhaps fix the width completely of the text; would you have any issues with that? Making the images smaller might work, too, and keeping it consistently one per section. Whyer, it's not working because that takes the time parts as parameters - anywhere where there be {{{}}} - as in, triple curly braces, that's a template parameter, something that the person using the template gives the template after a |. Look at the source of other templates and compare that to the functionality to see what I mean. Say, the {{q}} template...

Annnyhow, read the section I linked you, or at very least do exactly what I say. Create a parameter passer like I made for the Cat, so you can give it parameters so it takes them properly: Purple&Pink I didn't do it! 07:42, 26 March, 2024 (UTC)

I second that; as I understand it (but only from reading UnNews), Black is an instant youth star, propelled to stardom by a YouTube video that went viral, who will Flame Out whenever people realize that she can neither sing nor write songs. The article was presumably dashed out to meet the fad, author JoeMonco is not one of the regulars here and his tastes run distinctly to Randumbo, his creation has been set upon by I.P.Anon, but it might be traumatic to roll a decent article right on top of it, so, yes, do go through the proper motions. An alternative is to write a parallel article such as Miss Rebecca Black. A more outlandish alternative is to propose that yours be the main article and the existing one take the weirder name; if you pursue this, please be cooperative about it. Pass it as a parameter into a signature file that takes it as a parameter and uses it, as in, {{User:Lollipop/somesig|datepart|datepart}}. To do this you need to use a custom {{nosubst}}, unless you only want to pass it as one parameter (like ColinAYB's, and no, I ain't typing his full username out), in which case you can use {{nosubst2}}. You have to have admin access to create a bot. There are options for user-side scripting that does have some automated functionality - the QVFD tab and the Welcome tab are two that spring to mind - but again, you need to have scripting knowledge, and even then, you have to be careful that your script doesn't act in a malicious way, and there are certain safeguards wikia have put in place to deactivate potentially harmful scripts such as a spambot. In short, it's a pain in the ass, and the effort of creating and fine-tuning a script may not be worthwhile if there's not a huge need for the bot. Mmm, does look better, though the humour in things can almost always be improved upon, just in general. But yeah, the tag can stay off at this point; they're basically just a way to make sure if people don't fix the things up, they don't clutter up the place, you know? A few tips, though - any ironies you can add about the thing can help. You have some decent jokes, but the more the better, and the really good articles are every line there for a reason, either making a joke, leading up to something, or setting the scene for one... Also, keep your speaker consistent... it gets a little confusing in places. Who is it? Why is it saying these things, think, would it say these things? Having a biased speaker can be a wonderful source of hilarity, but it needs to make sense. Anyhow, you can also request a more in-depth review if you want more specific inputs. I've got a review. Your intro (the stuff before the table of contents) is your one chance to get me interested in your article. Don't tell me what a great deal you don't know about the subject, and don't send me to a footnote. In my opinion, don't use strikethrough to suggest there is a difference between what you want to say and what you must say, until you've set this up so I understand what the dilemma is.

Despite all this, I read on, into Section 1, and once again the author is chatting with me about all that is unknown and what to do about it--a bad stand-up comic trying to crack wise with the audience about how he really has nothing to say--and, worst of all, how it feels to be a comic (or in your case, writer of hoax encyclopedia articles).

In summary, the article needs a theme, and the only one it has is: You. One that jumps out at me is to assert in the intro how influential Mithraism was, and to reveal in the text (without the narrator seeming to understand the contradiction--in fact, the narrator should leave himself out of this) that it was really uninfluential: Has left no trace and its host country seems to be doing the exact opposite of its teachings. Thanks for the comments. The theme I've been trying to develop seems to have come across more clearly to Lyrithya than to Spike -- the "biased speaker" is the intended theme. It is not so much about Mithraism, as about the way a certain sort of person writes about Mithraism. And tries to stop others from writing about the ancient religion and its influence... The point of the strikethrough is to imply that the article is the work of more than one speaker -- in other words, that this is a wiki in which a particular contributor is trying to overpower the voices of others... Problem with multiple speakers, though, is the more there are, the harder it is to get it across what's actually going on, and if folks can't tell what's going on, it's doubtful they'll find it much good. If you don't keep them distinct, and instead do it like a normal conflicted wiki article or some such, it's more likely to just come across as another questionable wiki article, and there are too many of those as it is. The strikethroughs help, but really, they look more ugly, than anything. A few good examples of ones with multiple speakers that I can think of all use a more static approach, usually with a much more static layout in which the speakers aren't changing each other... those might give you some ideas of directions you could go with it... 1234 ~ 21:40, 24 April 2011

Well, I probably only have 2 speakers, and one of them doesn't actually say very much -- it's more the voice of a "straight man" than an interesting character in its own right. I did have a look at your multiple speaker pages. They're good, but a bit different from what I'm trying to do. Ugly or not, it seems to me that the strike-throughs are in character -- the main narrator has a deep inner need to over-ride the other voice and tell it to SHUT UP. What I have done is added the words "Who wrote that?" after the 1st crossed out bit in the intro, to show that it's not just someone crossing his own drafts. I've also mentioned, or implied, that the main narrator has studied Latin and theology, to give more of an idea where he's coming from, plus reworded intro to give an early indication of the main bee he has in his bonnet regarding Mithraism and its possible influence on other stuff... Requested Articles Completed

Erm... So I completed a few requested articles. I was quite pleased when my first one got an award, which lead me to look at the Reqaward Statistics bit. I saw that the most created in one day was three and vainly thought "I can beat that" so I did 4. But only one other got a Reqaward. Still being noobish, I'm not sure why this might be. I had fun writing the articles, but its also nice to be acknowledged. I have recovered from my sorrow now and am willing to accept criticism. Also, how do I request a peereview on my articles? To request a pee review you just need to go to the main pee review page, head down to the bottom and type the name of your article into the box. All you need to do is just save the page it will create for you and your article will be added to the queue. As far as the reqawards thing goes, you will get the recognition for it when MadMax next takes a look (he usually sorts those out). Just remember that while we may appear to be a well-oiled machine that runs flawlessly we are all still only human and it's best not to anticipate that things will happen straight away. If you don't get the recognition after a while then drop MadMax a line and if he doesn't get back to you drop me one and I'll make sure you get the awards. I will start by saying I am not going to reread them. I think the instructions say, give yourself the award once the article is complete. As mentioned above, this is still largely a DIY. Want your new article in the new article list? Add it. Sure there are some wizbangy-stomp machinations that auto-do a lot, but not everything. This is a wiki, it all can be redone. You do not have the permissions to do anything that could really screw things up. Don't try. Like I said on IRC, if you want to start articles in mainspace, it's better to save them with more content, like it has now. There is a reason for the 'Putting this template on a page consisting of a few lines or worse will not save you and may actually get you banned.' line, after all. As the dress goes, it's custom made from hand embroidered silk, and as befits a Luvvy eloping, it's not a full length trained gown. It sort of covers my knees when I'm seated... Almost... :P

Had I stuck in Yurop and stuck to my lordling BF a few years ago, I'd have had to do the big cathedral wedding with a trained gown, heirloom tiaras, horse and carriage, big ballroom reception... Pic uploading

Hi I hope this message finds you well. If not well... Since I saw people adding categories to pics they were uploading today, I was wondering if it's mandatory to do so. I have started doing it lately, because Its so bleeding hard to find existing images, and like with articles the category feature works well for that. Eh, folks like to do that, but nobody's really obligated to, even less so with images than with articles, but it can also be helpful, as folks say. But not templates, categories, as Kevillips did. I mean, if the templates actually fit and there's reason for them to be there, sure, (say, copyrights, NSFW, etc), then you may as well add those too. Image Update

I'm having a problem with an image (Pack-A-Punch.jpg) on the Nazi Zombies page. I recently updated the image, but the image featured on the page is not the current rendition. Can you tell me what has happened? Anyone? --Gamma287 ☭Tetяis? 20:46, May 2, 2011 (UTC)

Its not the problem it seems. We have been dealing with that lately. The wikia images are stored off site, and get cached by wikia and they do not update their caches quickly. But, you can for now trust it has been updated in the system and will show up soon. --K evilLips MUN,CM,NS,3of7 20:49, May 2, 2011 (UTC)

The images are on the images subdomain, yes, but the failure to update is part of a Wikia problem with caching in general, and they do not always fix themselves at all. From the looks of things, there isn't any way to hide logs in general, let alone a specific one. If it's just one user, you could try not watching it, however, although that would make seeing responses more difficult... you could also consider making how many things it displays on your watclist a bigger number.
