Forum:Organizing dated articles
I've made this a separate forum from Forum:Uncyclopedia:Timeline is shit because I think it's a very different issue. The former is about a lot of shit articles that need to go, and for that discussion, please go there. This forum is about a different means to link together the date/year articles. gwax has suggested a template. What does everyone else think? Is a template the way to go? A list, like Wikipedia has for its dates? If do we choose a list, how will we prevent it from becoming infested with HTBFANJS-failing one-liners as the current system has fallen prey to? – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • critchat) 21:08 Jun 23, 2009
- I have an idea of how to make sure it doesn't get filled with stupid one-liners: Have one of the usergroups carefully watch each article, reverting unfunny edits when they get made. Also, semi-protect the articles to prevent stupid IPs/vandals from screwing with them. MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 21:14, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Input: If we do that, I think it'd be best to make sure the articles themselves aren't intentionally humorous, but instead serve only to organize. That will stop any debates about adding jokes, I'd say. – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • critchat) 21:16 Jun 23, 2009
- I think we should make some morphed together history, from about 0 AD to now (no future timeline), add some plausible, if not always humorous, events, semiprotect it, and ask a usergroup to watch it. Then, every number from 1 to 2009 becomes a redirect. Simple, right? Saberwolf116 21:18, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- That doesn't help to put all the date-related articles in one place, which is the issue here. We don't need to make up a virtual history; we've already got one, created from various dated articles. Not every year has an article equivalent, some years have multiple events, some events span several years... the redirects just wouldn't do. – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • critchat) 21:20 Jun 23, 2009

- Template, definitely. Make sure it's at least semi-protected to prevent it from deteriorating into the shit it is now. -OptyC Sucks! CUN21:18, 23 Jun FU EDIT CONFLICT!
My idea in a nutshell
Make some centralized article, such as "the history of the world", have up to 5 important events for a year, MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE PLAUSIBLE AND NOT JUST SHIT, redirect every number from 1 to 2009 to that centralized article, have a usergroup watch over it, and semiprotect it. - Now I understand the redirecting. But dude, we don't need to make up anything. This is about organizing the articles we've already got. – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • critchat) 21:21 Jun 23, 2009
- The timeline could be a dated index that links to a caterory or direct to an article. --RomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate). 22:15, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
I would totally rewrite these and make them great
If I didn't have an awesome new band and an even awesomer new girlfriend taking up all my time.
Okay, it's possible I didn't come here to talk about the timeline, but just wanted to gloat.
22:11, 23 June 2009 (UTC)- Dude, replace "band" with "novel" and you've got my life. High fives all around?? – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • critchat) 22:13 Jun 23, 2009
