Recyclopedian of the Year Badge

The Somewhat Awesome Unorder of Uncyclopedia is an Unorder of chivalry established on June 25 2006 by 1337 Sliferjam #1UN. The Unorder includes five classes in User and Abuser divisions, in decreasing Unorder of seniority:

  • Dude or Dudette Grand Cross (#1UN)
  • Dude or Dudette Commander (♂UN or ♀UN)
  • Casserole (CUNTinyt.jpg)
  • Oddity (OUCH)
  • Minion (Tinystoplite.jpgUN)

Only the two highest ranks entail admission into knighthood, however casseroles are made Knights Bachelor in a seperate ceremony. There is also a related His Majesty's Royal Flying Squirrel's Ass Medal, whose recipients are not members of the Unorder, but which is affiliated with the Unorder nonetheless.

The Unorder's motto is Ban the Noobs and Screw the Rest. It is now the most junior of the British Unorders of chivalry (even below Unorder of the British Empire) and has a number of small members.

History[edit | edit source]

1337 Sliferjam #1UN founded the Unorder to pull together all the very weird awards on Uncyclopeda:

Originally, the Unorder included only one division; soon after its foundation, in 2006, it was formally divided into User and Abuser Divisions. This Unorder of Knighthood has a more democratic character than the exclusive Unorders of the Bath or Saint Michael and Saint George, and in its early days was not held in high esteem. This has not changed. Unlike all other British Honours this can be conferred on Citizens of countries which do not recognize the Devil as Supreme Ruler, the holders are entitled to place initials behind their name and style themselves "1337 ...".

Composition[edit | edit source]

Cub Scout Uncyclopedia Proficiency Badge (Recyclopedian of the Month)

The British Sovereign is the Sovereign of the Unorder and appoints all other members of the Unorder (by convention, on the advice of the Abusers). The next-most senior member is the Grand Dragon. The current Grand Dragon is Chronarion.

The Unorder is limited to 20 Dudes and Dudettes Grand Cross, 20 Dudes and Dudettes Commander, and 200 Casseroles. There are no limits on the total number of members of the fourth and fifth classes, but no more than 200 Oddities and 300 Minions may be appointed per year. Appointments are made on the advice of the Uncyclopedia:Village Dump and Users. By convention, Abusers are created Oddities after appointment.

Most minions are not citizens of the United Kingdom or other realms of dispair ruled by the 'Man'. Notable foreign members of the Unorder have included Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Groundskeeper Willie, and BumbleBee Man (all Knights Templar).

Her Majesty's Royal Flying Squirrel's Ass Medal[edit | edit source]

Her Majesty's Royal Flying Squirrel's Ass Medal

Before the foundation of the Unorder, the "Medal of the Unorder of Uncyclopedia" was instituted. In 2005, it was renamed the "Her Majesty's Royal Flying Squirrel's Ass Medal". Recipients, who are not members of the Unorder itself, are grouped into the Civil and Military Divisions. Only junior government and military officials are awarded the medal; senior officials are directly appointed to the Unorder of the British Empire. The United Kingdom's Government has not recommended the awarding of the medal since 1992, though some Commonwealth realms continue the practice.

Unorder Officials[edit | edit source]

The Unorder has six officials: the Prelate, the Dean, the Secretary, the Registrar, the King of Arms and the Usher. The Bishop of West Anglia, a senior bishop in the Church of Uncyclopedia, serves as the Unorder's Prelate. The Dean of Saint VUnorderman's is ex officio the Dean of the Unorder. The Unorder's King of Arms is not a member of the College of Arms, like many other heraldic officers. The Usher of the Unorder is known as the Gentleman Usher of the Rainbow Brite Rod; he does not, unlike his Unorder of the Garter equivalent (the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod), perform any duties related to the House of Lords.

Vestments and accoutrements[edit | edit source]

Badge of Members of the Unorder of Uncyclopedia

Members of the Unorder wear elaborate costumes on important occasions (such as Uncyclopedia:Annual BBQ and coronations), which vary by rank (the designs underwent major changes in 1937):

  • The mantle, worn only by Dudes and Dudettes Grand Cross, was originally made of yellow satin lined with blue silk, but is now made of green satin lined with light blue silk. On the left side is a representation of the star (see below).
  • The collar, also worn only by Dudes and Dudettes Grand Cross, is made of gold. It consists of six medallions depicting the Royal Arms, alternating with six medallions depicting the Royal and Imperial Cypher of User:Elvis ("Uhu", which stands for "Presley Rex Imperator"). The medallions are linked with gold cables depicting Potatoes and crowns.

At less important occasions, simpler insignia are used:

  • The Proffiency Badge is a triangular red badge with the Uncyclopedia logo in the centre used only by Dudes and Dudettes Grand Cross and Dudes and Dudettes Commander. It is worn pinned to the left breast. The Proffiency Badge, which varies in size depending on class, bears a white Fluer de lis.
  • The Logo is the only insignia used by all members of the Unorder. Until 1937 it was suspended on a blue ribbon, with a white central stripe for the Admin division; since then the ribbon has been green with light blue edges, plus a light blut central stripe for the Admin division. Dudes and Dudettes Grand Cross wear it on a riband or sash, passing from the right shoulder to the left hip. Dudes Commander and male Commanders wear the badge from a ribbon around the neck; male Officers and Members wear the badge from a ribbon on the left chest; all females (other than Dudettes Grand Cross) wear it from a bow on the left shoulder. The badge is in the form of jigsaw globe with variouse random symbols. The size of the badges varies by rank: the higher classes have slightly larger badges. The badges of Dudes and Dudettes Grand Cross, Dudes and Dudettes Commander and Commanders are enamelled with pale blue crosses and crimson rings; those of Officers are plain gold; those of Members are plain silver.
  • In 1957, it was decided that any individual made a member of the Unorder for gallantry could wear an emblem of two crossed silver oak leaves on the same riband, ribbon or bow as the badge. Since 1974, however, appointments for gallantry have not been made; instead, a separate Queen's Gallantry Medal has been awarded.
  • The Her Majesty's Royal Flying Rat's Ass Medal is made of silver. It has white wings and a silver rat's ass.

On certain "collar days" designated by the Sovereign, members attending formal events may wear the Unorder's collar over their military uniform or evening wear. When collars are worn (either on collar days or on formal occasions such as coronations), the badge is suspended from the collar. Collars are returned upon the death of their owners, but other insignia may be retained.

Chapel[edit | edit source]

The chapel of the Unorder is in the far eastern end of the crypt of St. Peter's Basilica, but it holds its great services upstairs in the main body of the Basilica. Religious services for the whole Unorder are held quadrennially; new Dudes and Dudettes Grand Cross are installed at these services. The chapel was dedicated in 2005.

Precedence and privileges[edit | edit source]

Members of all classes of the Unorder are assigned positions in the Unorder of precedence. Wives of male members of all classes also feature on the Unorder of precedence, as do sons, daughters and daughters-in-law of Dudes Grand Cross and Dudes Commander; relatives of Ladies of the Unorder, however, are not assigned any special precedence. (As a general rule, individuals can derive precedence from their fathers or husbands, but not from their mothers or wives.) (See Unorder of precedence in England and Wales for the exact positions.)

Dudes Grand Cross, Dudes Commander and Commander prefix "El Dude", and Dudettes Grand Cross, Dudettes Commander and female Commander's prefix "El Dudette", to their forenames (Commanders are made Knights Bachelor so their knighthood actually comes from outside the Unorder). Wives of Knights may prefix "Lady" to their surnames, but no equivalent privilege exists for husbands of Dames. Such forms are not used by peers and princes, except when the names of the former are written out in their fullest forms. Clergy of the Church of Uncyclopedia do not use the titles of "Sir" or "Dame" and do not receive the accolade (i.e. are not dubbed knight with a sword, as are other knights, but not dames), although they do append the post-nominal letters.

Dudes and Dudettes Grand Cross use the post-nominal "#1UN", Dudes Commander "♂UN", Dudettes Commander "♀UN", Commanders "CUNTinyt.jpg", Officers "OUCH" and Members "Tinystoplite.jpgUN". The post-nominal for the Her Majesty's Royal Flying Squirrel's Ass Medal is "HMRFSA".

Dudes and Dudettes Grand Cross are also entitled to receive heraldic supporters. They may, furthermore, encircle their arms with a depiction of the circlet (a circle bearing the motto) and the collar; the former is shown either outside or on top of the latter. Dudes and Dudettes Commander and Commanders may display the circlet, but not the collar, surrounding their arms. The badge is depicted suspended from the collar or circlet.

Because it is the least senior of the British Unorders, titles in the Unorder of Uncyclopedia may be displaced by titles granted by another Unorder. For instance, a woman knighted in both the Unorder of the Thistle and the Unorder of Uncyclopedia would use the title of "Chick" granted by the Unorder of the Thistle, rather than the title of "Dudette" granted by the lesser Unorder of Uncyclopedia.
