The East or East as it is often spoken in several Latin based dialects is several things. Usually pertaining to a particular cardinal direction, Asia, where you moved from to "make it" in the movie industry and or the location of generally superior sports teams. In some areas of the Unites States of America it is also considered to be Virginia.
History and Directions[edit | edit source]
Historians argue when the East actually became a region of the world. The most prevalent theory is that one day there was a man (or woman but let's not be silly here) standing in the middle of a field. The field was fairly equal in length and depth in all directions, no single direction was any more or less appealing than the other. Then turning to face a certain angle he said "I think I'll go this way." He began to walk and that became the east. It really doesn't matter, what does is that the east exists today and its the best place to be.
The East depends on where you are currently. While in the traditional sense the East is; the American East Coast, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Diamond Coast of Africa and Australia, the East can be moved to the relativity of your current location. For example if you live in Los Angeles, California, east for you is Las Vegas. If you live in the Sin City east for you is St. Louis, Missouri. If you live in St. Louis east for you is of course Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. But if you live in Pittsburgh you live on the East Coast and thus have the final and most legitimate claim to living "out east". Its science.
The East is generally considered the more favorable direction to travel and live. That is why east and the direction of right became synonymous with each other. It was considered the "right" thing to go east. This was a theory and method adapted by the Greeks after stealing it from a tribe in modern day Sudan. The correlation was first popularized and eventually brought to the Asians who already knew they were the stuff since they had been born on what mapmakers for primarily arbitrary reasons called "The East". Its a topic of controversy that has plagued the history of The East for quite some time. Scholars argue that the East is only The East due to Euro-centric cartographers. In a sense it could be easily argued that our perception is what creates the East. That Oregon could in fact be the East and that New Hampshire is the west. But this theory has been dismissed by most logical minds because that would mean that Oregon and Russia are both the West. That would work...if the earth was flat.
There are general ways to know if you are indeed headed east. The air tends to get more moist, there are generally four seasons and the public transportation system will gradually improve the closer to the east coast you become. Regardless whether in America, Eastern Europe and the Asian east coast the big cities begin to get closer together for the sake of traveling and sport rivalries.
