UnNews:Barack Obama accused of being too left-handed[edit source]

I wrote this before the US Election, but I never perfected it. -- Kippy the Elf Candycane2.png Talk Candycane2.png Works Candycane2.png Candycane2.png Candycane2.png Candycane2.png 07:38, Nov. 9, 2008

I'll do it. I have another engagement, but this oughtn't to take as long. BlueYonder GalaxyIcon.jpg - CONTACT
Humour: 6 There’s laughs in it, for sure, but it’s in no way side splitting, and, without overlapping the following section too much, the humour is, unfortunately, rather overridden by the fact that the election is, by now, a rather tired subject. Couple that with the fact that the content of the article is rather predictable from the minute you see the headline, and the humour here, most unfortunately, falls rather flat.
Concept: 6 Well, you’re not inexperienced around here, and I’m sure you know as well as I do that jokes about the left and the right, as well as the election, aren’t of the freshest variety. However, the tone and content of the article are actually ideal in that sense because they show that the article doesn’t take itself too seriously. The article is nice and concise, and doesn’t become long-winded or overlap itself, like so many do.

Nonetheless, this overall doesn’t really counter the fact that, as I think I said, the content of the article is pretty predictable from the minute you see the headline; you really do know from the beginning that it’s going to be an allegory to Obama’s left-wing leanings, and that the political and religious right are going to come into it, and all that. Really, making cracks at the likes of Focus on the Family is rather overdone by now. And on that subject, the article really is rather one-sided and visibly prejudiced against the more militant righties of America. It’s easy for a political article to fall into that trap.

All in all, I’d say the concept shows a clear skill that would be better spent on fresher ideas. Perhaps move away from the election a bit if you plan to keep on the subject of politics.

Prose and formatting: 9 Can't find much to complain about here. The prose is appropriate for a news story and the formatting is all correct. I hate not being able to whinge.
Images: 6 Hmm…not exactly bad choices, I suppose-it must be anything but easy to search for pictures of Obama that have specifically to do with his hand-but if you were working on this for a while, as you say, I’m sure you must have had time for a bit of basic Photoshopping-I’m sure you could have come up with some great ideas with a little thought. On that subject, the subtitles for these pictures are, to be honest, a little stale-the one where he’s not pledging, for instance, could have had a much funnier caption, I’m sure. Something about patriotism or traitorship-anything, really.
Miscellaneous: 6.8 Avg'd. I've never done it any other way.
Final Score: 33.8 All in all, an UnNews that's fun as a tounge-in-cheek, passing thing-which, I'm sure, is what you intended it as-but unfortunatley doesn't hold its own very well due to rather worn-out concept. I'm sure your skill would be better put to use in fresher areas.
