Forum:Uncyclopedia is as popular as Homestar Runner
Earlier in IRC a few of us were debating whether or not Uncyclopedia was notable enough to be mentioned in the Wikipedia article on Oscar Wilde. Soon enough we were comparing Alexa ratings (we kicked oscarwilde.com's ass). Anyway, after I left I guess Brad and maybe a few others continued to compare Uncyclopedia to some others, and look what they found! Uncyclopedia is just as popular as Homestar Runner, I can't believe it.
Actually, as it stands right now homestarrunner.com has a traffic rating of 7,038, compared to uncyclopedia rating of 7,848. However, these ratings are based off of 3 month averages and if we continue on our upward trend we'll easily surpass them in time. As for Google, we're still gaining ground, should have them sometime late Smarch of Never.
Honestly though, I hope this really encourages some of you to stick around. We're on our way up and every new person that you turn on to Uncyclopedia will help. Currently our awards program consists of cookie templates and ninjastars, but we're working on it. t o m p k i n s blah. ﺞوﻦ וףה ՃՄ ண்ஸ ފއހ วอฏม +տ trade websites 04:51, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I added this to "UnNews:Other Headlines" when I saw it. I can't believe it. Of course, most users that visit Homestarrunner.com visit once a week and most users that visit us are more regular that that, but still, holy crap. That's a site I've admired for years, and being "on their level," as it were, is freaking awesome.--<<>> 04:55, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Even more surprising (to me, at least):
- Google hits for "homestar": 1.72m
- Google hits for "uncyclopedia": 2.76m
- Ah, you might say, but there are at least two actual print books with "uncyclopedia" in the title. Yes, but a search for "uncyclopedia haigh" (the author's name), except without the quotes obviously, nets only 1,360 hits and "baseball uncyclopedia" (the second book is called The Baseball Uncyclopedia), again without the quotes just for kicks, gets only 92,800 hits. Conclusion: we are pretty popular. —rc (t) 05:01, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- More Google fun:
- 266,000 for Uncyclopedia rocks.
- 88,100 for Uncyclopedia sucks
- It's always good to be on the plus side of this one.--<<>> 04:21, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- And only 35,900 for
uncyclopedia pretty fair
, so most people have a strong opinion of Uncyc in one way or the other. Also 591 foruncyclopedia callipygian

- Pretty sure ED had all of their users download the alexa toolbar to "alexa bomb" (Olipro's term) their site. We could all do the same, but I'm more interested in accurate results than results that make us look good. t o m p k i n s blah. ﺞوﻦ וףה ՃՄ ண்ஸ ފއހ วอฏม +տ trade websites 05:07, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- So that's what you think they did. So you can bomb alexa like people do with google then? -- 05:18, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- All I'm saying is they went from 60,000th to 2,500th in about a week, before leveling off to where they are now. Also, if my memory serves me right, they had a link in one of the side boxes telling users to go rate the site on alexa (which actually uses amazon ratings.) t o m p k i n s blah. ﺞوﻦ וףה ՃՄ ண்ஸ ފއހ วอฏม +տ trade websites 05:25, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- ED's ratings are almost as large as ours? Crap, we need to get the vote out for Uncyc. --Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!! (T/C) 05:23, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- If you look carefully you can see that we are doing better but both sites seem to have a similar visit pattern, both sites have experienced a drop in visitors. -- 05:37, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

- How about the opportunity to purchase a free Euroipod at an extremely inflated price if we refer friends to Uncyc? --Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!! (T/C) 16:02, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Why was there such a big spike right before December?--Witt, of UNion Entertain me* 04:12, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Several things were going on at that time, including the Great Aspie War of 06 and Powershot v Benson, not to mention the beginning rumblings of Drama 06.--<<>> 04:15, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Nah, I reckon it was a rush to buy the Uncyc merch for Christmas. They knew about our plans to increase the price. Who squealed? —Braydie at 08:15, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
