UnGames talk:Onwards to Boston
@Fenris2010: So i was thinking of doing something with Boston, incorporating Wally the Green Monster into the EFO series, and sending John to the opposite side of the United States. Any Input? --Your favorite moron, Turb0-Sunrise

- Why does this have to be EFO 3 specifically? I've seen your entire justification for it, but that could easily be solved by putting this monster of yours somewhere into EFO or MITK themselves. There's probably some room for him somewhere in there.
- Well how is Wally going to get to the West Coast, and more importantly, how is he going to fit in one of those tiny plane seats? --

- Through the power of magic, obviously. If you've played either of those games you'll know that whatever goes on in that universe isn't usually anywhere near realistic.
- Well it's already in my mind, and i have a rough idea for what happens in the Alaska panhandle and a small chunk of Canada. --

And i've seen your ideas for what happens in those places, and the end result you'd presumably get to (judging by the route you've planned already) will either be that the game is never finished due to being too long or that it moves way too quickly to be particularly enjoyable. 17:51, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- Well i was thinking John would get blasted or flown through most of the boring parts of the midewest, saving some time. Also, maybe Oscar Wilde or other in-joke people make appearances somewhere --

- I am still not convinced that this is a good idea. Even if you skip most of the "boring" parts, you still probably have a lot of game to make. MITK has taken close to a year to make now, and it's still not done, even with multiple of us making different parts at the same time. And throughout all of that you need to come up with something semi-creative for a lot of places, unless you want your game to be comparable to stuff like Reach AZATHOTH. 18:05, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- I have google street view and stupidity on my side, i should be good. I dont really care how long it takes. --

- Escape from Ojai 1 was basically abandoned as soon as one route out of Ojai was completed. MITK is pretty close to total completion, but you still can't get to Ketchikan through BC. I can think of three unfinished sub-routes in MITK as well. Once MITK can be considered a finished game, I'll definitely be down to work on your game though (unless Fenris comes up with something better.) Oᑭöᔑᔑᙀᙏ

@Turb0-Sunrise:Sorry, but I'm going to work on a different EfO 3 idea in which the writers of the "A story built series" are being held captive by the king of Ojai, and a random civilian of Ketchikan teams up with John to rescue them. If your game looks better than mine though, I'll abandon mine and help with yours. Overused Jokes and Fuckery that MITK was Flooded With that should be Avoided in This Game (O.J.F.M.I.T.K.F.W.A.T.G.)[edit source]
Even I couldn't escape most of these issues.
- The "KYS" links were way too common in Make it to Ketchikan. When "KYS" and "Die" links were used back in Escape from Ojai, the game usually made it very clear that you were going to die if you clicked the link. Both games often forced you to do utterly stupid things to survive, such as chopping one of your arms off in Escape from Ojai, and jumping off a ferry into the icy sea in Make it to Ketchikan. Both of those could have very easily been KYS links in MITK: sending you all the way back to the beginning.
I often accidentally click on KYS links in MITK, either from misclicking or from not actually reading the links. Yeah, that was annoying as shit. But I usually just (oh, the horror!) clicked the back button in my browser when I did that! - "Option 5" and "H" were funny the first couple of times, but it ended up being just as overused as "xyzzy" in the Zork games. You can only repeat a joke, especially a non sequitur, so much, before it becomes, well, a non-non sequitur.
- Also, Onwards to Boston should definitely have more sections like "Vancouverite Sojourn" and "The Gopher, The Glacier and The Gerber". In my opinion, those were the best parts of MITK: you got to actually explore, you could get a sort of map, search for hints, and there were enemy encounters that had some actual strategy to them rather than just trial and error. And more importantly, only a few pages led to your death, so it was way more forgiving.
Also, all the non-traditional text adventure elements like that laggy-ass CSS-powered driving game, Gergdown's "travel back in time and acquire some souls" section, the Yakutat Trail, and the afforementioned VANS/GGG really broke up the monotony of the generic choose-your-own-adventure stuff. Those were what actually made MITK stand out from the other Uncyclopedia text adventures. Not the backgrounds and CSS effects, not the modern injokes, but all those goofy mini games. Those are really what will give MITK a legacy.
Now, everyone, since my old quest to find a job is actually starting to get somewhere now, and I got really bored of editing text adventures after editing MITK for so long, I will likely not contribute much to OTB all that much. But the Ojai series is supposed to be some of the better UnGames, and we don't want to ruin its reputation. And again, good luck on this new game, everyone! The lazy, lazy old OPOSSUM. warning: HUGE STRING OF TEXT COMING. BEWARE[edit source]
(there are also scary capital letters in this message: also beware) When I first started working on the Vancouverite section for Make it to Ketchikan, I wanted something different from the rest of the game. After the monotonous Washington that didn't really have much CGI shit, or anything else to stand itself from the rest of the game (since I didn't know CGI nor CSS at the time...); everything else people did for Washington, and also the fact that I'm a Canadian who wants to do something with Canada with this game, I brainstormed many ideas for what to do with Vancouver. And eventually, after enough brainstorming, I realized that I could just merge all my ideas into one city. That's why I said Vancouver was slightly inspired by WarioWare, because the idea of having several minigames inside a game felt cool to me. (No, this had nothing to do with Deltarune[1] I FUCKING SWEAR). That's why I added the Soul Challenge and the Vancouverite Sojourn: I wanted to do something with Vancouver to try to make it much more entertaining than the rest of the game. I might add more non-text-adventure stuff in Vancouver too.
That's also the reason why I made UnNotPron in the first place. Whenever I see the game list of UnGames, it's all text adventures... text adventures everywhere... and most of the other ones that weren't text adventures either still use Wikitext as a main part of the game, are just a gag, are an experiment, or require Flash (which isn't supported on most browsers). I wanted UnNotPron to be different. So I took "heavy inspiration" from David Munich's notpr0n, and made UnNotPron. Although UnNotPron is not widely known in Uncyclopedia (probably because of how heavily unorthodox it is in its methods of gameplay), I would say it is heavily unique[2] compared to most other playable UnGames.
There was this era of Make it to Ketchikan history in which I now see jokes being replaced with references. References not made for jokes. (or maybe, i just have a shitty form of humour.) Deltarune here, ULTRAKILL here, this Deltarune reference only half-counts, OneShot here, and as you said, the reoccuring [[Option 5]] and H gags. That era has mostly faded away now, but I felt like the game was losing its charm there. That era ended at the Elevator section, and the overall cooler shit the game had and did.
I don't know how to end this rant off. Uh... Gergdown, out. Mic drop.
>:)

- fun fact: the elevator section itself is also a reference
- Well im going to have jokes and references, like writing the entire way(s) through Wisconsin in a Wisconsin accent, or having most of the backgrounds related to cheese. I know John's going to run into the GTF guy at some point.

- I warned you all about flooding MITK with references to weird indie games that so many of us know nothing about, and a few of you didn't listen. I actually think Squaw Dee actually did a better job than me of trying to be actually funny (when not relying on ASBOWAAT-related stuff.) But the lack of such references (aside from Schism's ULTRAKILL and SCP stuff) is the main reason why I considered my Alaska route to be superior to the BC route. Aside from a major Annihilation spoof in one part, and the obvious ASBOWAAT references, my sections of the Alaska route (that is, 85% of the Alaska route) was primarily based on my own experiences in Alaska. That's why you start the AK route in Whittier, where I camped out for two weeks. Anyone who's been to Whittier knows how Bat Fuck Insane it is, and how it never stops raining. The Kushtaka (a Tlingit legend and a well-known cryptid in Alaska) makes an appearance at one point, it's repeatedly mentioned how expensive everything is in Alaska, and you get around with little boats, ferries, kayaks, etc. Also, @Alula:, what exactly is this elevator section a reference to? - @Theultimategergdown: I've also visited both of them, I must admit. Victoria was nice, but Vancouver, on the other hand, I must say, well... there was not much to do in Vancouver proper, although there were plenty of things to do near Vancouver. Note Grouse Mountain, Whistler, Capilano Bridge, the San Juan Islands, those are all great placea for actually-doing-shit enthusiasts. Blessed be the mountains of BC.
- I really wanted to do the "Grouse Grind", which is when you climb straight up the side of Grouse Mountain (even an old man could do it), but my family were massive LaziBums so I didn't end up doing it. Always thought it was funny how they had a straight-up speedrun leaderboard for the Grouse Grind. If I revisit BC I'm definitely doing it. Oᑭöᔑᔑᙀᙏ

- No, it's a reference to The Normal Elevator, a game on Roblox. It really only references the concept itself though (i didn't add anything from the actual game because it's mostly just references to various memes and stuff that was popular before maybe 2018).
- @Alula: Pre-2020 memes are still probably better for MITK than post-2020 ones though, because if an old(er) meme is still being talked about, that means people will probably remember it in the future. I mean, at least on Uncyclopedia people are still talking about Chuck Norris and "all your base". But if something that went viral yesterday, there's no guaranteeing that it won't be considered unfunny and irrelevant in only, say, two years. Oᑭöᔑᔑᙀᙏ
