I used to have a link to this page embedded in the little fox's image code, but I suppose that's just "mystery meat" navigation! >_< I changed it to be a little more relevant, and links now imply where they are going first. RGB profile errors

Okay, now you've gotten me really curious. How were you trying to put that image together? I used GIMP as well, but something tells me our methods are a little different. I mean, base images make a fair bit of difference on their own; the more similar the better, but... 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 23:56, 16 March 2011

Well, I was using that wave as the background, and cropped the bottom to make up for the lack of beach in that shoreline image. I used the eraser to turn the mismatched water in the beach picture into transparency; the problem was that the eraser would only erase to white space instead of transparency. Of course, cutting around the trees was extremely difficult, and mine would have looked it came out of an early PS1 game with polygon edges. I never thought to look for a better beach... >o<
As for the RGB error it gave me:
"The image 'beach.jpg' has an embedded color profile: Camera RGB Profile. Convert the image to RGB working space (sRGB built-in)?"
I wasn't sure what any of that meant, so I just clicked "Convert." That's probably where the transparency issue was. -- Tinypony.gif Sir "TheSlyPony" Invariably certifiable. Rap sheet. His shameless obsession. 00:52, March 17, 2011 (UTC)
Oh, profiles... now I remember. They tend not to mean terribly much, in my limited experience. But in the case of erasing to white instead of transparency, sometimes you need to add an alpha channel to the layer. It's under the transparency options on the layer menu, or by right-clicking on the layer itself; then it'll do more of what you expect. At least, it should. Do these things ever do quite what we expect? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 01:30, 17 March 2011
I think I sorta figured it out. I was adding the alpha channel after I erased part of the picture... Still, it works out better this way; my super awesome version probably would have been huffed, anyway. :P -- Tinypony.gif Sir "TheSlyPony" Invariably certifiable. Rap sheet. The grue army

Hey, I saw you joined the grue army, so I just wanted to give you a big welcome from all of us "old members". Anyway, it looks like you joined the Twin Suns Squadron, like it says there, you job is to revert vandalism, report vandals, and placing crap on QVFD, VFD, and ICU. And keep a record of what you've done, then once every month, half a month or a week report what you've done here, and rise up the ranks! So heelo and welcome again, and good luck! --Wanna see a magic trick? 19:47, March 18, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, Magic Man! I actually joined because I'm already a VFD regular, and I just started to help stamp out edit wars. Lately, I've been placing IPs and such on Ban Patrol. Would it get a faster response if I posted them to the Grue Army report page instead? Thanks again for the welcome! -- Tinypony.gif Sir "TheSlyPony" Invariably certifiable. Rap sheet. His shameless obsession. 04:48, March 19, 2011 (UTC)
It would probably be faster if you posted them on the the Grue Army report page. I f you place them there you'll either get a response from me or Meganew (grue army team leader). As we are the only one's authorized to do that (I'm second in command). Anyway, you're welcome. --Wanna see a magic trick? 17:31, March 19, 2011 (UTC)

Your VFH nom

Hello. I put your friend Jarjar on the Oral sex page (and who doesn't want Oral sex linked to their talk page!). I better put Toothy Mouth somewhere before he gets huffed in some sick pic purge. Your VFH nom, SPIKE's UnNews, is funny but is already out of date. The judge has again ruled and Gov. Walker has complied and stopped any talk of implementing the law. That's the problem with topical UnNews's on VFH - here today wrong tomorrow. Have you checked out Dinosaur on VFH? It's our newest Colonization effort and is "lookin' good" (as Dinosaurs go) Aleister 9:37 1-4-'11

What Aleister says is true; the facts are "overtaken by reality," though if you still think it is funny, the facts should never stand in the way. I regard my UnNews:NFL changes rules for safety as a better contribution, though it is simple sarcasm. But thanks for the nomination. Froggy's vote against is indistinguishable from vendetta. Spıke ¬ 00:25 2-Apr-11
Thanks Aleister. I'll have to make a user-subpage on our newest in-joke, Toothy Mouth! As for the nomination, no problem, Spike! I still think it's funny, even if it is outdated. I know a lot of people are averse to featuring UnNews items, but I try to look at all articles equally. UnNews features serve as good examples for prospective UnJournalists. -- Tinypony.gif Sir "TheSlyPony" Invariably certifiable. Rap sheet. "Red State" rewrites

With my re-writes, I remember having great intentions on both articles, but they both started out as redlinks that I stubified and then kind of let languish. Over time, I believe, the bitterness of other editors weighted down the article (especially redstates). As I tried to convey yesterday afternoon, I did not want to start a rewrite, if it was going to be huffed anyway. Lately, I'd been thinking of the red states as a us equiv of the CIS, hence my B-Capital city idea. anyway, thanks for your reconsideration, and I'll get cracking on them. I have done some emergency terraforming on them thus far. --K3vin-Yak-Bak MUN,CM,NS 08:31, April 4, 2011 (UTC)

Fox, you are a gentleman to withdraw your VFD nominations, given the promise of rework; but you nominated them for a reason, and it remains to be seen whether the reason is disproved: whether Kevillips is writing to amuse, or to flog an agenda, that the Year 2000 election was "stolen" by a band of racist cracker morons. His wide-ranging defense on the VFD page--including the assertion that the VFD nomination must be political, as the pages themselves could not be; and declaring that "UnNews is ruined," suggests that he is here to prevail by any means rather than to make good comedy decisions. Spıke ¬ 00:36 5-Apr-11
Hmm, 'tis possible... But I like to extend second chances when possible. If it turns out that there really is some agenda besides good comedic writing at work here, it could be VFD'd again. I know that sounds like abusing the policy, but I was given another chance to write Serenity and the result was a very fine piece of work. In any case, I'll be keeping an eye on these two articles to watch for any improvement--or lack, thereof. Since deletion-surviving articles are pretty much on probation ("passing with a D" or whatever else it might be referred to), lack of sufficient improvement is almost always a convincing reason to huff later. This is especially true when the decision to keep rests on a promise to rebuild.
If precautionary measures would be appropriate, we could always tag them for rewrites after they are kept. A construction tag might be best, since they are primarily by one author. Otherwise, it's too old for ICU, so maybe a medium rewrite tag? Never mind, he's already done that for us.
In any case, thanks for offering to rewrite them, Kevin. It will be much appreciated if these are turned into something more relevant for today. If this really is about the 2000 election, might I suggest a more obvious retrospective look at it? Such an approach might be more enduring as time passes. -- Tinypony.gif Sir "TheSlyPony" Invariably certifiable. Rap sheet. His shameless obsession. 02:15, April 5, 2011 (UTC)

I don't have an agenda, really. I could just as easily have written a blue state version as well. It just so happens, when I started this article I was watching an episode of Will & Grace and Will said, "The Red States Hate Us". That inspired the whole red states idea in my head, and I started inserting it as a thing into other articles. I think I red linked it, and ultimately started a stub. While re-reading it, upon my promise to rework it, I found everything you said to be true. But was pretty sure it was all subsequent edits from my original offering. I have not gone through the edit history, so if you have and found me to be incorrect, I will use the must have been drunk defense. Because a lot of the crap is just not how I think, and if I did, I would word it differently. In the rewrite, I left a lot of the diatribe, but softened it. "appears" "seems to" I changed antichrist to robot santa. My vision of this page is a city that time forgot, or one that is in a planned community of stepford wives. But its Parody. Satire. Mainstreet USA meets, Mr Rogers Neighborhood meets Stepford Wives. I could just as easily create a land populated by the opposite.

Which brings me to the reason I even came to your talk page: I found a page that seems to fit the same pattern as you found on Red States: International Academy of Design and Technology to me it comes off like a blog about someones personal bad experience anonymized, but not an article. I am a bit gun shy about vfd or not, but figured you're experience could clue me in as to if my instincts were correct.--K3vin-Yak-Bak MUN,CM,NS 17:17, April 5, 2011 (UTC)

The lesson to be learned is: you write it (or save it), you own it. The physics of a wiki is extremely accelerated entropy, and articles instantly turn to crap unless they have an owner who works to weave contributions by I.P.Anon into a coherent whole. (Though based on all the extreme things you have written in the last week, I'm equally willing to also believe that the "diatribe" is all yours. And, no, I'm not going to pore through the History to find out which it is.) Spıke ¬ 17:48 5-Apr-11
PS--International Academy is unambiguously VFD-worthy, and I'll take it in. Spıke ¬ 17:51 5-Apr-11

For what you said; I think that means something to me, but... well, you should be careful. Such sentiments show weakness, and weakness could do you in when there are rabid moose on the loose. They can smell it, you see. Weakness. Fear. Mangoes. they have a very keen sense of smell, these rabid moose.

As for what happened, a moose got into the IRC channel and I think people may have overreacted a mite, although I wasn't really paying attention at the time. Unless it was a goat? Some sort of misunderstanding, anyhow. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 05:46, 22 May 2011

You're very welcome, Lyrithya. Sometimes one just has to overlook the possible consequences in favor of speaking out for the greater good. Don't ask me what the greater good actually is, because I have no idea. Anyway, sorry for not replying earlier, but I took a short hiatus from the site. I just don't like how harsh this place has become. I know we don't have to lower our standards to ED-level, but I think just about everyone here has started to take this place too seriously. Maybe we're out of ideas... We need to bring back the old atmosphere. We need another brilliant article that can bring us all together! Bah, don't apologise for taking awhile to reply... it's all good. Isn't it? Thing is, though, has this place ever not been harsh, really? Reading old dramas, they make for a good read, but I don't think I'd have wanted to be there, you know? But yeah, seriousness... who needs it? If I could make a Taco: namespace, I would.
Considering the drama over those, I'm not sure that would be the best idea, either. It's hopeless. Unless we had a taco namespace. That would solve everything. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 23:07, 27 May 2011

Browsersidiam

Helllloooo. I saw your comment about IE. It's what came with my computer, or how it was fixed up anyway, and I recently "downgraded" from IE 7 to IE 8 which is giving me all kinds of trouble. People are suggesting different browsers, which browser do you use and suggest? And with this new vector skin, I'm going to miss the tab placements and the search box on the side, so I may just use the old skin. I still don't understand the wide opening in the tabs, and what that's about. Thanks for any advice! Aleister 11:09 21-6-'11

Howdy! :D
I've used Firefox about six years now. I love the all the addons that are available, but AdBlock is my favorite. It's actually possible to block just about every ad on the Internet using this setup. There's also NoScript, which is handy for blocking certain Flash and Java ads on sites like Hotmail. The themes and "Persona" backgrounds are nice, too. Lyrithya says Firefox 4 has wonky coding, but I can see almost no problems with the mockup version of vector (the logo-replace template is kinda buggy, though). I actually used version 3 on my other machine for a long time, since it worked great (and because I was simply too lazy to update it). The new one can be found here and the older one lives here.
If you want to broaden your horizons, I hear Chrome is a good, minimalist one. I've never tried it, but it was created in a vein similar to Firefox. It can be found here. As for the old skin, I actually like it, too. It has a certain old school look that isn't seen much anymore. I switched over because I've been here for four years (behind the scenes for three of them) and figured it was time for a change.
Anyway, If you need help with a new browser, you can always find me here. :D -- Tinypony.gif Sir "TheSlyPony" Invariably certifiable. Rap sheet. His shameless obsession. 11:46 June 21, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the write-up. Adblock and noscript sound good, I have some kind of ad block code but it's gone schizo on me. My main and huge problem now is that I use google as a search engine, and whenever I type in a site name the thing is redirecting to full page ads and ad sites (I've never clicked on an ad, and now it's automatic!). It takes usually over half a dozen attempts to get to uncyclopedia or other sites I use, and general searching and site hopping is just about killed off because of this redirect thing. Have you heard of that before? or any suggestions. Thanks, and I'll study up on Firefox (Firebox?) too. Some people suggest Chrome. There must be a perfect skin and browser in paradise!!! There just must be!! Aleister 12:27 21-6-'11
Ah, yes. I used to help people with such a problem all the time. It sounds like a textbook case of spyware infection to me. They're not really viruses because they don't cause any damage your machine (usually), but some particularly nasty ones can have virus-like behavior. And while I doubt the narrow, yet hardly straight path of the Mormon Trail will be of any use to you, I think a good old antispyware should do the trick. It works just like an antivirus; some of these have real-time protection, some are on-demand only. And some are integrated into your antivirus.
The first step is to get rid of any nasties lurking on your machine. Usually a combination of Ad-Aware and Spybot S-D, will remove most of them and restore your Web functionality. Once that's done, you can install one that has real-time scanning (just don't install two real-time scanners at once!). Ad-Aware has one, but last time I checked, it was only in the paid version. Many of the free security suites out there have spyware scanning built into them now. Comodo is one such example--apparently, they now have a Web browser which has some built-in security functionality. Most antivirus companies have toolbars that will add this type of security ("THIS WEBSITE IS BAD, MR. ALEISTER! DANGER! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!").
Speaking of which, most spyware can be avoided by staying away from anything that looks suspect. "Free" toolbars not made by somebody reputable like an antivirus developer or Google or some-such, tend to have spyware in them. Use protection caution. Though the protection might not be a bad idea... -- Tinypony.gif Sir "TheSlyPony" Invariably certifiable. Rap sheet. His shameless obsession. 18:27 June 21, 2011 (UTC)

Hey...dont worry...theres no general rule. However, as far as I know...contestants arent supposed to write anything before hand. Theres no reason why they can't brain storm in their own mind...but the actual writing is supposed to start on the actual day. I guess that would apply for team mates talking amongst each other as well. Though...Ill ask Joe what he thinks and if he says that the contestants can at least debate about what topic to use...then thats fine (though communicating about the competition via IRC or chat...would be totally out of the question). You can...however, send us your credit card information...to...um...confirm that you are infact who you say you are. Absolutely, Shabidoo. Really, it sounds very strange to be requested to work on hentai stuff, but it sounds interesting! You can black out parts of an image? Do you mean paint it black...or a black out that reveals itself if you click over it? --ShabiDOO 10:05, October 4, 2011 (UTC)
Well, I'm not sure how to do interactive images (maybe with an animated GIF?). I do know it's very simple to just put black rectangles and squares over the offending naughty bits, or we could even use those blurry squares they use on TV to cover up faces. Though the animated GIF might be feasible, with black bars that disappear when mouse hovered over, only to reveal something else that says "DRAWINGS GONE WILD!!" or something silly like that. -- Tinypony.gif Sir "TheSlyPony" Invariably certifiable. Howdy, sir! Ma'am, sir! I mean ma'am! (Ma'am?) Sorry! Whoops!

Just dropped in to tell you how utterly fetching I find you. Woof.

Anyhoodle, I thought while I was here, I'd mark my territory (psssssssssssss), and also inquire of you what you use to make those animated Pony .gifs. I've tried GIMP and a couple of other programs for .gifs, but the results aren't as nicely-dithered as them MLPs.

Ciao!  ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngMon, Nov 14 '11 8:57 (UTC)

I aim to please! But to tell you the truth, I don't actually make those. I get them from this website. It has to be the world's largest collection of GIFs ever, and they're all ponies.... *_* I upload them here because I find this site stays archived forever, but image sites are not so permanent.
Though I did make the Monty Python foot one. I used Ulead GIF Animator for it. It has some decent automation features, but it's quite out of date. From what I can tell, the majority of those pony ones just use existing footage from the TV show, using each existing frame and playing it back at 23 or 29 FPS. Even the simplest GIF editor would certainly work for that, or there are some websites that will let you upload video clips for this (they add watermarks, though).
I use GIMP for just about everything, but it has two shortcomings: its GIF capabilities and text rendering are both bare-bones. I'm assuming everybody uses Adobe something-or-other for GIFs, but I can't be certain. I'm more experienced as a video editor, and I'm pretty new to this 4chan style GIF thing. >.<
Oh, wait! It's dangerous to go alone!! Take this!

Oh, I'm familiar with how they did the animations (I did some for Socky recently), I just wasn't sure how they got the color dithering so uniform. When optimizing .gifs, GIMP doesn't do as good a job. I used to use Jasc's Animation Shop (before Corel bought it out and discontinued it), and I also took the Ulead app for a spin, way back in the days before I had decent computers. In comparison, GIMP's GAP isn't too bad, I guess, although it's definitely not user-friendly. Unfortunately, the most up-to-date version for Windows seems to be one that some guy is hosting on deviantArt, so...I'm a little worried my computer has herpes now. (I could winge on and on about how GIMP's path support SUCKS, too, but it is, after all, a free program.)
One last thing: you mentioned video editing...what programs do you use for that? I've tried out VirtualDub, avidemux, and the Windows Movie Maker, but those are all bare-bones, and I'm looking for something heavier-duty, perhaps with storyboarding and, oh what the hell, maybe compositing capabilities? Wax and ZS4 are kinda lame. Jahshaka looked like a good bet, before they gave up on it. Anything freeware out there?  ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngMon, Nov 14 '11 22:56 (UTC)
Mainly what I've used is just the basic free stuff like VirtualDub. My video editing usually doesn't go beyond deinterlacing, noise reduction, some cut-and-splice maneuvers and audio synching. I actually prefer the look of real vintage film over everything else, so I don't really do much in the line of heavy processing. I still use a VHS camcorder for this reason! I used to work with foreign films a lot, and would attempt to hardcode subtitles into them. The only problem was my affinity for DVDs and old school televisions... Overscan always got in the way.
When I needed something more in-depth, I would use some "home user" thing like PowerDirector. Very simple, but it got the job done--and it's lot more precise than Windows Booby Maker, though that doesn't take a lot... Lately I've just been doing encoding, and any one of the many variants of TMPGEnc is very reliable for this purpose. They have a video editor too, but it's kinda bleh. I've heard iLife is one of the best video editors out there, which explains why someone told me years ago that PCs are terrible for video... But as unimpressed as I am, I still haven't ditched Bill Gates' design yet. I suppose I never could get used to the Mac's silly navigation system. But hey, 640K of RAM ought to be enough for anybody, right!?? >_< -- Tinypony.gif Sir "TheSlyPony" Invariably certifiable. Rap sheet. You are a Pee Buddy Judge

I'm sure that's not news. But feel free to add to your user page to show everyone how clever you are.

As for the method of judging - I recorded this thingy earlier, but the long and the short of it - you will be judging every article in the category for which you chose to judge. I will create a judging page later on that allows you to add a comment/link to each article you judge, along with a score. The ideal is that you score one a scale of 0.0 - 10.0 in total, but if you want to score out of 100, or 50, or 8.9, you can do that as well, as long as you put in the max score in as well. (It will become apparent once I've actually created the judging page.) Judging will start on the 1st (sort of). I've actually allowed a days grace for people to complain about entries or submit a late entry with a good excuse (ie: I was dead for two weeks for tax purposes). I'll keep you posted.
