Could someone please help me fix Template:Killquote2? I can't figure out why it won't substitute the chosen input for {{{1}}} and why it says "on" twice for every quote.--Naughtius Maximus Leaf.jpg F@H Woof!Za slice.jpg MeowMUN 20:10, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't think you can have a variable inside choose/option tags. That's my best guess on that front, and unfortunately I can't think of a workaround.~~ Sir Ljlego, GUN  [talk] 21:14, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Ooh! I like that idea, but I don't know if you can have {{{1}}} inside choose tags.   Le Cejak <Apr 22, 2008 [21:41]>
Is there a way to do that with JS or something like that? 'Cause nothing I tried worked; I hit it, yelled at it and poked it with a stick, but still nothing. -- Smallbeer.pngSpillin DylanSmallbeer.pngTALKSmallbeer.pngEDITSSmallbeer2.png03:36, April 27 2008
Upon some further research, it looks like you might be able to get away with using {{pagename}} instead of {{{1}}}, but I'm not sure if that's what you need... -- Smallbeer.pngSpillin DylanSmallbeer.pngTALKSmallbeer.pngEDITSSmallbeer2.png03:45, April 27 2008
Upon even further research, I'm a moron. See {{Template:Killquote}} for evidence. Time for bed, maybe? -- Smallbeer.pngSpillin DylanSmallbeer.pngTALKSmallbeer.pngEDITSSmallbeer2.png04:03, April 27 2008
Upon viewing this page, I have to agree that you are a moron. --166.102.104.8 04:36, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Wow...this IP's first, last, and only contrib has been expended to insult you, dylan. In your position, I honestly wouldn't know whether to feel like my self esteem has been completely destroyed, or like I'd just received the highest praise a man can receive. - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon.gif(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 04:41, Apr 27
Well, in all fairness, it DID take me over a half of an hour to do all that (ahem) "research"..., but I'll take the praise. -- Smallbeer.pngSpillin DylanSmallbeer.pngTALKSmallbeer.pngEDITSSmallbeer2.png04:44, April 27 2008
Dylan, Thanks for taking the bullet to save this well intended, though not well thought out (on my part), template. I hope that this makes up for any hurt feelings you may have felt at the hands of 166.102.104.8. --Naughtius Maximus Leaf.jpg F@H Woof!Za slice.jpg MeowMUN 16:44, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
This template chooses a random quote by a random person from a list of several dozen. Huh? A quote that's a random one from a random person from a list? I hate it already. Before I hated it, I hated it, too. Later, we're planning on a passionate affair. Then, after I get dumped, I'm going to boil its bunny. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 20:26, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

As several users have already surmised, {{{variable}}}s don't work inside custom tags like <choose>. This is a longstanding bug in Mediawiki that probably won't be fixed anytime soon. --Algorithm 06:12, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
