Yeah, that's right. I really want Uncyclopedia to start using SVG as well. --Qzekrom sig button.gifalkies 02:12, March 27, 2012 (UTC)

Hey, guys. I've been noticing that Wikipedia has started to use Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) images for images such as logos, graphs, flags, etc. And I think we should do the same here. Particularly because most, if not all, of the Uncyclomedia (or UnMedia) logos have text. Comment as you see fit. --Qzekrom sig button.gifalkies 02:12, March 27, 2012 (UTC)

My experience so far with .svg files is that they don't seem to play nicely when you try to specify how many pixels high an image should be displayed, they only seem to come in one size. This makes them unsuitable for thumbnail images with captions, for instance. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 03:40, March 27, 2012 (UTC)
Well MediaWiki resizes SVGs for you.
You can probably just go right ahead and convert any flags or graphs you find into svgs. As for logos, if you can post svg versions perhaps we could vote on them individually. Anybody else reading this should also feel free to make svg versions of the logos for us all to vote on too. -- The Zombiebaron 03:52, March 27, 2012 (UTC)
Sure, a scalable potato is good, but a potato which craps out a potato which craps out a potato is best. What I'm trying to say is, the future is animated gifs. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 08:24, March 27, 2012 (UTC)
SVG can be animated but not in thumbnail format. --Qzekrom sig button.gifalkies 20:51, March 27, 2012 (UTC)

Let's make a petition for SVG!

Score: 4

  • Symbol for vote.svg For. I've heard good things. --EMC [TALK] 20:25 Mar 27 2012
  • Symbol for vote.svg For. I agree, and actually I think there will be a point where any images can be vectorized. Even photos. I'm going to be a pioneer in artificial intelligence. --Qzekrom sig button.gifalkies 20:45, March 27, 2012 (UTC)
  • Symbol for vote.svg The children are the future! Like angled vamps and kids I read that in Narnia. Anyway, Puppy says you can just do it. Aleister 12:17 29-3-'12

Why the fuck are you petitioning? You can use SVG here. Many logos have been changed to SVG in the past. (I seem to recall a forum on just this topic two years ago.) just fucking create them already and stop creating stupid petitions/votes. There is no vote required to continue doing what we already do. (Oh, and there are at least two potato SVGs that I've uploaded in the past. They aren't very good though as the puzzle potato doesn't lend itself to vector graphics easily.) • Oh my god who is this SVG guy? He sounds like some sexy god! Where does he buy his clothes? --ShabiDOO 10:34, March 29, 2012 (UTC)
  • Aha! Forum:Image Replacement. I knew it existed. Nominally Humane! 12:50 29 Mar
    • Too bad that's archived. Anyway, I'll keep a catalog of SVG images on my user page so if anyone has good news tell me. --Qzekrom sig button.gifalkies 22:39, March 29, 2012 (UTC)
      • Did you read my comment above? Because, if not, I've got some good news for you! You can go ahead and start replacing images with svg versions of themselves starting right now! -- The Zombiebaron 23:38, March 29, 2012 (UTC)
        • I don't know how to do cool stuff with SVG though. Anyone? --Qzekrom sig button.gifalkies 00:17, March 30, 2012 (UTC)
          • I have no idea why we are bullet pointing, but I'm always one to go with the herd. At least that's what was said at that indecent exposure in rural area court case. But as for animated SVG - as far as I'm aware (and it has been a couple of years since I looked at this in depth) it's still relatively new. That means there is only limited browser support at present. In fact a coupl of years ago it was around 80% of browsing public used a browser that had native SVG support. As for creating SVG graphics - I picked this up through http://inkscape.org/ and their tutorials. As I may have mentioned, I would not class myself as an expert - I still have a lot to learn, if I ever bother to learn it - but I can at least create something SVG. Maybe you can work on learning that rather than complaining about the lack of them. Nominally Humane! 12:36 30 Mar
            • You can also create SVG using Adobe Illustrator. There are many helpful Illustrator tutorials out there, all you need is to google for them. -- The Zombiebaron 03:52, March 30, 2012 (UTC)

Template

Converted to SVG.svg This image could be converted to the SVG format because it contains text, shapes, and/or other cool graphics.

Please upload an SVG version of this image.

I tweaked your template a little to create a category for the images, and to add a nocat flag, and also to get over the issue it had with images that had spaces in the name. It's not a bad idea. Did you want to move it to {{SVG}} or something similar? Nominally Humane! 12:28 09 Apr
Yeah, make it a real template. -- The Zombiebaron 06:18, April 9, 2012 (UTC)
As a side note, we have around 500 SVG files as far as I can tell. Nominally Humane! 06:45 09 Apr
