Can I ask those who use the {{Oh Dear}} template on IP pages to start limiting that as much as possible? As far as I can see, it's not much different than welcoming IPs (which we don't) and doesn't really help anyone. First, it's shared IPs - so you might get innocent bystanders getting that less then friendly message. The vandals don't give a rat's ass anyway, so we end up wasting server space for no reason. Let me know if there's any good reason to keep doing that. ~ 11:08, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

I tend only to use it if I haven't seen an admin about and I'm not sure they're gonna get blocked any time soon. Sometimes it does seem to have had the desired effect (or they were bored by the time I added it and had wandered off, it's hard to tell). It's fine enough to leave it to someone when there is no member of the cabal around, but leaving that as a standard to any IP that blanks something, I think it's just a waste of time really. ~ 11:47, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

A specific message containing the particular details of what happened would be better than using {{Oh Dear}}. If a different person then uses that IP there is then a lot less likelihood that they will think the message was for them. {{Oh Dear}} on IP talk pages is never a good idea in my view...
