Talk:PHNURR!

All other addresses on the history are actually Lord Fluffy forgetting to sign in. It's fucking difficult to make up that much nonsense (the article is intended to be incoherent). --Lord Fluffy who rains fire from the heavens 02:15, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Just thought you should know[edit source]

That mugwump actually has a meaning: "A person who acts independently or remains neutral, especially in politics." Apparently. I'm sure something like this page has been done before - lucky for you I can't be bothered to go search right now though...!

What else can one say about it? Well, maybe I'd suggest less links to "crazy" words and more to perfectly normal but suggestive ones... --Strange.PNG (but) Untrue  Whhhy?Whut? How? *Back from the dead* 19:24, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I thought the exact same thing about the links. --So So 10:06, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

From Pee Review[edit source]

Just wanted opinions. This is not an AAAAAAAAA! clone. It required several days of hard work. Much effort is required to create aesthetically pleasing nonsense. --Lord Fluffy who rains fire from the heavens 17:40, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Humour: 6 Well, the article doesn't so much tell jokes as be a joke. ("A poem should not mean / But be.")
Concept: 7 An honorable concept: nonsense prose taken to the extreme. See endnotes.
Prose and formatting: 8 Not applicable, but see endnotes.
Images: 8 Good images, appropriate to the concept.
Miscellaneous: 7 This is an interesting experiment, and I hope it will succeed. It's a tough job to undertake, though.
Final Score: 36

Endnotes: On concept: The obvious difficulty with PHNURR! is getting anyone to read more than a little bit of it. Lewis "Laudanum" Carroll gave readers some help by putting his nonsense words into the context of English sentences with proper grammatical rules. Except for the first and last sentences PHNURR make few concessions.

That makes it hard to read.

There are recognizable words scattered through the gibberish like Easter eggs, and that helps a lot. The rhyme-bits and rhythm-bits also help. ("Oob loob, HAB MAB" indeed.) The pictures are excellent.

Frankly, I like this better than AAAAAAAAA!, which you "get" in five seconds or less. I get the feeling that PHNURR! just might have some kind of hidden meaning if only I could decode it. There might be some sort of logic there, just beyond perception... But AAAAAAAAA! and its clones are like an empty glasses: they;'re real clear, real simple, and after the first glance not very interesting.

About the only other thing I can say is that I think readers sense when there is a logical structure to a piece even if they do not consciously understand what that logic is. That sense of hidden structure may make nonsense more intriguing. A long time ago I contributed to The Halfbakery, a forum for half-baked ideas. Someone posted a piece which appeared to be in a foreign language -- there were repeated "words" and seemed to be a grammar of some kind. Several people tried to find a language or to decode the piece, and ultimately I think it was decided it was cleverly constructed nonsense. It was the sense of hidden structure that interested them, though.

Good luck with this. (Actually, it kind of grows on one. Phnurr!) --OEJ 15:25, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

It's a satire of instruction manuals. Sort of. But as OEJ said, it also exists for itself. --Lord Fluffy who rains fire from the heavens 02:45, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Alien invasion[edit source]

The article seems to be a transcript of the speech of an alien invading despot with a broken translator that he hasn't noticed yet. 71.220.213.101 01:47, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
