Forum:Surprise closure
As Zombiebaron has been kind enough to point out on my user and talk pages, I have quit again. I don't think I'll come back this time, because I have the symptoms. I care enough to propose this:
Ditch VFH voting
- vote for a feature editor once a week or two. He/she then takes care of VFH.
- others propose articles
- add some safeguards; for instance, the same person cannot be nominated twice in 6-12 weeks or so - unless there's a lack of volunteers (ha!).
That's basically it. You might say the present VFH system works. It does, of course, because it's the system now in use, and is a workable system in principle. But fuck that. Try something new unless you want to stagnate. The place is a bit unfunny already as it now is.
I rest my case. -- Style Guide 06:22, November 30, 2010 (UTC)
- Why should we listen to you? Is it because you're a quitter? Is it because you folded like a cheap tent when the going got not-at-all hard? Is it because you still haven't returned those Elvis LPs you borrowed? Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 06:55, November 30, 2010 (UTC)
- Is that Multiliteralist leaving and making another dramatic comment about VFH voting just before he does? There's a thing. I look forward to him returning for the next two weeks to argue every point made in this forum. Possibly except this one. --UU - natter 09:41, Nov 30

Alternate Proposal
We should just start featuring pictures of cats on the mainpage. ~ *shifty eyes* (talk) • (stalk) -- 20101130 - 11:53 (UTC)
- Oh Yes, yes, lots of pussies! Heh heh haw haw hee hee (cough, sputter) ha ha ha hee hehe, gaggle gump ha ha ha whooo hee hee Ye Sophmoric Humorist 12:53 30 11
- Pussies! Heh heh.. Sounds very very kinky. DJ Mixerr 02:24, December 4, 2010 (UTC) User:DJ Mixerr/sig
Alternate Alternate Proposal
We should only feature articles about cacti on the mainpage.--
12:39, November 30, 2010 (UTC)- Surely you mean cactux? Or cactuars? --UU - natter 12:44, Nov 30
- Both would be acceptable with the Giant Cactuar also allowed in the grouping with the normal sized ones.-- 17:37, November 30, 2010 (UTC)
Random Wednesdays
Every Wednesday the feature article will be chosen by a designated chooser from a slot-machine like go at Random pages. This can be publicized far and wide (and just as much as anyone works at publicizing Uncy now) and it will become well known throughout the comedy community. I'll go choose the first pick and post it here. Aleister 13:00 30 11
Semi-Alternate But Kind Of Just Divergent Unless It's Actually What Aleister Meant All Along Proposal
- Nom and For For random Wednesdays why not just have whomever is in charge of the feature that day just post the first random page? That way we can drudge up all kinds of humor from the dark, forgotten places. Unless that's what you meant.--
- That sounds like what I do. When I nom stuff for VFD. ~ *shifty eyes* (talk) • (stalk) -- 20101130 - 17:37 (UTC)
- Well the really bad stuff will be easy to spot on the front page, don't you think?--
- Would it? I use the special:random more often than I look at the mainpage, myself... what about you? ~ *shifty eyes* (talk) • (stalk) -- 20101130 - 17:49 (UTC)
- I use Recent Changes more often, actually. So as an addendum to the proposal, Special:Random and and Recent Changes should both redirect to the mainpage which would then be chalked full of rants on Chuck Norris and Oscar Wilde.-- 17:56, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

- Eh, we should just feature Special:RecentChanges and call it a day. Anyone tried featuring Special:Random yet? ~ *shifty eyes* (talk) • (stalk) -- 20101130 - 18:10 (UTC)
- I'd vote for Special:Random over Special:RecentChanges. RecentChanges can be too easily manipulated.--
- Kind of what I meant, but it is as stupid as it sounds. Chuck Norris would be very popular. How about Noobie Wednesdays, where we feature an article by a noob selected as Striker suggests? It would be labeled as such atop the feature. That way readers may be tempted to get into the game. The only problem would be sockpuppets who enter a page to be read by the selector. And if none made the grade that week then the selector could say so and a regular feature would go up. Could only work if they were true noob articles, which would give our new users a good feeling, a feature, and a smile. Aleister 19:52 30 11
- p.s. Or maybe on Wednesday, or whatever, only noobs and people who don't have a feature would self-nom their pages in a special section, so at least once a week a totally new user would get a feature. I like it!
