At Uncyclopedia, writing articles is not a requirement, but it certainly is a fun and easy way to express your creativity. To write an article, it's recommended that you start it in your userspace (for example, User:Tonillero/Article about stuff) so you can edit it at your leisure. If you decide to create it in the cold world of mainspace, make sure it is in accordance with the policies laid out above, and if you're not done put the "Work-In-Progress" template - {{construction}} - onto it as well.
If the current colonization doesn't suit your fancy, then browse our rewrite and idea categories. We have lots of articles just sitting around for someone to improve, so don't be afraid - dive right in!
If you need help, ask me on my talk page, ask at the Dump, or ask an administrator on their talk page. Additionally, the Uncyclopedian Adopt-a-Noob program is there to bring experienced editors straight to you. Simply leave a message on an adopter's talkpage to join. Costa Rica[edit source]
Such toilet humor. (Literally!) Can you make it a little more subtle? Spıke ¬ 17:50 24-Aug-10
- I've made it a bit more scholarly. (The original was worse, believe me!) —Tonillero (heckle • stalk) 18:25, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
I like the way it turned out! My only quibble would be that it doesn't require its own section head.
Now, the paragraph before yours was there before I came along to fix up the page. The page originally cast Costa Rica as a supernatural portal to hell, and this paragraph is a leftover from that time. I'm not sure it relates to anything real. Sections 4.6 and 7 are two other places I hardly touched, as I've only visited Costa Rica once, for a week. You're welcome to take some hacks there too, or provide any more current news. Spıke ¬ 18:37 29-Aug-10
....Good! Who's Alejandro Martínez? Spıke ¬ 22:10 29-Aug-10
- Just a name I pulled out of my trasero. Since you mention it, I figure it's funnier with the name of an actual person. See my latest revision. —Tonillero (heckle • stalk) 23:26, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
I did, and decided, "I'll never find out now!" By all means, a national hero--with explanation of such for the gringos--stands a greater chance of producing laughter in the English-speaking world. Spıke ¬ 00:11 30-Aug-10
Showerhead[edit source]
I used one of these in Perú (at 240 volts) and it did tingle! This might not be specific to Costa Rica, and might be the start of an article of its own. If it stays in this article, then Section 5.1 needs more than one subsection. I minced words a bit--more could be done--and added the bit about exposed wires to the caption. For more about Latin daily life, see There Isn't Any. Spıke ¬ 11:26 30-Aug-10
PS--I checked Latin America to see if it would be a better home for Showerhead. Maybe, but the article is a wasteland. Spıke ¬ 13:59 30-Aug-10
Your new changes[edit source]
- Thank you for eliminating the last vestige of the old, gateway-to-Hell, humor concept. There is still the Oscar Wilde quote which, if it remains, might be attributed to someone who actually has reason to think of CR that way.
- The red and blue aren't quite right, but this does sort of resemble the flag. I thought your beer-glass "coat-of-arms" was trite (drinking beer on a foreign vacation?!) but what you have now is truly a coat of arms.
Strikethrough, ouch, it burns my eyes. Must you have two?- Now that we have you, I think my bilingual red box at the top is no longer necessary.
- Entonces ustedes no hablan como ametralladores? But Educational tourism didn't make me laugh; every nation thinks it speaks the clearest Spanish, and every capital attracts English-speakers.
- Why don't you attack the Trivia section? Every article has one and they attract I.P. Anon who is in third grade and can't do better than writing one-liners. The definition of "Tico" should come before we start using it, and the other trivia should be improved or deleted. (Hint, Bush is no longer U.S. President.)
From what you say elsewhere, "Tonillero" might translate as "Droner." Not a word commonly seen, but anyone would know what you meant if you described a U.S. Senator as one. Spıke ¬ 08:59 19-Sep-10
I'll see what I can do with that section. The Spanish version has some good material but I'm sure a few things would get lost in translation if tried to port it over. It's been a couple of years since I went to Costa Rica so I'd need to do so extra harkening to drum up new material. I do wish the colors were closer on that new flag; unfortunately the image has some compression artifacts that make it hard to adjust.
(Just replaced that bland "Murphy's Law" opening with an "explanation" of Tico, too.)
By the way, "Tonillero" is a pun on my name (Tony Le) which I use somewhat ironically as a karaoke stage name. Mucho gusto, a proposito. —Tonillero (heckle • stalk) 10:15, September 19, 2010 (UTC)
- Fixed the flag (collapsed to 16 colors and edited the palette to give all the reds and blues the same hue and luminance). Though you can mine Inciclopedia for humor, you should feel no obligation to keep the two articles in synch; that's an endless and thankless job. Spıke ¬ 10:59 19-Sep-10
New motto[edit source]
This change I don't like. "Dollars? Euros? I have them!" is a motto you are likely to hear in downtown San José. (Euros, someone added recently.) Your motto requires both familiarity with the Tico dialect of Spanish (and "pura" is also typical of Mexico) and with two-generations-old rock. Spıke ¬ 22:40 25-Sep-10
- I changed it back. Although the truth of it is undeniable, the humor in it doesn't quite resonate with me, which is why I experimented with the other one. "Pura vida" is such a unique phrase that I hope we can get mileage out of it somewhere in the article. —Tonillero (heckle • stalk) 18:03, September 26, 2010 (UTC)
Salsa (music)[edit source]
I reviewed your article here. It's a quality article, and I think it can go places. I'm Sven von Haustenstrabben by the way, known on here as Thatdamnedfollowspot. It's a pleasure to meat meet you. Leutnant Herr Thatdamnedfollowspot 03:56 Thursday, September 16, 2010
- Oh, and another thing. I nominated you for NOTM. You can go and check it out if you want, or not. Leutnant Herr Thatdamnedfollowspot 04:02 Thursday, September 16, 2010
Hi Sven! Thanks for the review and the nom. I must say that this article was the epitome of major wood HTBFANJS for me since I've been dancing for quite a while and know all the quirky things that are funny about it. I'm Tony Le by the way, and although I hail from the land of dongs I know much more Spanish than the language I'm supposed to. Tonillero is my karaoke stage name, a bit of an ironic pun since it loosely translates to "monotonic vocalist".
I'm curious to know whether the running "MI VERGA" joke works well as-is for non-Spanish speakers or if I need to expand go deeper elaborate on it more. I've tried to keep it tight streamline it without bogging it down. —Tonillero (heckle • stalk) 16:25, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
- I didn't get the "MI VERGA" joke, even after
notlooking it up. Perhaps some more elaboration is necessary? Leutnant Herr Thatdamnedfollowspot 00:16 Friday, September 17, 2010- I surrounded it with gratuitous links to penis joke in hopes of explaining it to non-hispanohablantes without making it too
flaccidwordy. By the way, I've incorporated some of your suggestions and added a new subsection. Hopefully much more to come (including some good ending paragraphs in both "Music" and "Dancing"). - By the way, remember to post it on the Pee Week page. —Tonillero (heckle • stalk) 22:57, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

Congratulations on winning NOTM![edit source]
Even though I was totally winning before I was invalidated I've always thought you truly deserved it! *Hugs & kisses!* ~ Avast Matey!!! Happytimes are here!* ~ ~ 02 Oct 2010 ~ 02:14 (UTC)
I too congratulate you! And to think, your article gets featured the day after you win NOTM! Congrats once more, and I expect great things from you, kid! Leutnant Herr Thatdamnedfollowspot 03:24 Saturday, October 2, 2010
- I too would also congratulate you! You've made great progress! Keep up the good work. DJ Mixerr 18:27, October 3, 2010 (UTC) User:DJ Mixerr/sig
Thanks everyone! It's too bad NOTM has rules against gratifying yourself in public, or else Happy would've been a worthy winner (though the title of Most Robbed Person of the Decade still goes to the guy who came in second for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize). —Tonillero (heckle • stalk) 00:11, October 4, 2010 (UTC)
