China Lockdown (lame pun intended)

Hey Cassie, thanks for reverting that template breaking on China. As you may have noticed, a few different IP's keep making that ambiguous change (or one very similar). Would it be a good idea to protect the page so only autoconfirmed users can edit it? It's not happening every day, so maybe it's unnecessary at this point. Also, if there is a better way/place to request page protection, please let me know. Thanks. MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 16:24, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Implemented protection, and blocked the IPs for 5 years (the highest I am willing to in order to prevent false positives). Thanks for telling me!  Cassandra  (talk03:35am  June 10, 2020
Ok cool thanks! And my pleasure! I'm also assuming that they can still create an account and log in, maybe they'll have something funny to add after all. MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 04:06, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
After taking a closer look, it looks like they can't create accounts. Oh well, I think we'll manage. MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 04:13, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
Considering how they are constantly changing IPs, I'm sure they could improvise. Also, I just setup filter 65 in order to counter further attempts at similar styles of vandalism.  Cassandra  (talk)
Awesome, thanks again. MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 04:21, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

spam filter?

i am unable to save edits i made to a new page that i am creating, because it set off the spam filter. The page isn't advertising commercial content, although i mentioned a couple stores and restaurants. My account is also fairly new, about a week old. Thanks. --Daniel41689 (talk) 04:36, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

Uncyclopedia is fairly strict with its spam filter, especially for new accounts - that's because we do receive lots and lots of spammers, who (attempt to) create pages like "Revealed Hair Loss Companies Want You Bald" and "Protecting Yourself With Privacy Apps For Cell Calls".
I have given you "confirmed" status so you won't get affected by the spam filter in the future. Sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused.
By the way, the content of your page (so you can paste it back in) is:

[[File:Shitbox.png|thumb|right|Some old shitbox left in the bush close to Stockland Greenhills. Probably left there by local bogans after a few mainies and some good bushbashing. ]] '''East Maitland''' is a semi-developed suburb in the city of Maitland. As the name might suggest, East Maitland or East Maito as the locals call it is located on the Eastern side of Maitland on the New England Highway. Most residents congregate at Stockland Greenhills to smash butter chickens at Namaste, chew on some honey chicken from Wok n Roll, or to loiter in the carpark at night. East Maitland also is home to many bush tracks and trails which are often blocked by trees, creeks, shopping trolleys, or burnt down cars. No one knows how these cars appear in the bush, but many suspect that they are brought there by some sort of bush fairies. Or the local aboriginals. ==Greenhills== Stockland Greenhills is the local pom shopping centre that everyone and their dad brags about going to. Mostly populated by upper-middle class teenagers and parents, Greenhills is where eshay wannabes go to beg their parents for Nike TN's. After they finally get their TN's, they go back to their friends and tell them they robbed an eshay at the train station. Some shops you might want to visit at Greenhills are Mr Gadget (dunno why, everyone ends up there), that one Indian place that sells dream catchers, and the Maccas across the road because the one in the food court is for poms.

Got it. I often leave no reason when the user I am blocking is an obvious spambot, but if otherwise, I'll make sure to leave a message dscribing appeal procedures. Unfortunately, Uncyclopedia doesn't have any bots that can automate this procedure, which is why (often, if I block spambots, it can be in banwaves of 50 or 100 bots at a time, once every day or two... it accumulates fast!)  Cassandra  (talk05:33pm  September 4, 2020

Hey Cassie, thanks for adding the template to Kamala Harris! Is there a way to make the template appear at the very end of the article, below the footnotes, kinda like the USpresident template does? Thanks! MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 23:00, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

It doesn't really matter for this article, it looks fine as is, just kinda curious for future reference. MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 17:41, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

I'm unsure whether it's possible to have it appear automatically at the end. However, you can always move it to the bottom of the article! Sorry if I'm somewhat slow at replying!  Cassandra  (talk)
No worries, not slow. Moving it to the end still has it above the footnotes, while it's below the footnotes in other articles, like Donald Trump, for example. But oh well, it looks fine as is. MrX blow me Emoji-drool.gif 16:43, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

In a national radio speech on February 23, 1934, Huey Long unveiled his “Share Our Wealth” plan, a program designed to provide a decent standard of living to all Americans by spreading the nation’s wealth among the people.

Long proposed capping personal fortunes at $50 million each (roughly $600 million in today's dollars) through a restructured, progressive federal tax code and sharing the resulting revenue with the public through government benefits and public works. In subsequent speeches and writings, he revised his graduated tax levy on wealth over $1 million to cap fortunes at $5 - $8 million (or $60 - $96 million today).

The full text of this speech, as printed in Long's official Share Our Wealth pamphlet (see right), appears below.

“EVERY MAN A KING” Share Our Wealth Radio Speech by Senator Huey P. Long, of Louisiana, February 23, 1934 Is that a right of life when the young children of this country are being reared into a sphere which is more owned by 12 men than it is by 120,000,000 people?”

Ladies and Gentlemen: —

I have only 30 minutes in which to speak to you this evening, and I, therefore, will not be able to discuss in detail so much as I can write when I have all of the time and space that is allowed me for the subjects, but I will undertake to sketch them very briefly without manuscript or preparation, so that you can understand them so well as I can tell them to you tonight.

I contend, my friends, that we have no difficult problem to solve in America, and that is the view of nearly everyone with whom I have discussed the matter here in Washington and elsewhere throughout the United States—that we have no very difficult problem to solve.

It is not the difficulty of the problem which we have; it is the fact that the rich people of this country—and by rich people I mean the super-rich—will not allow us to solve the problems, or rather the one little problem that is afflicting this country, because in order to cure all of our woes it is necessary to scale down the big fortunes, that we may scatter the wealth to be shared by all of the people.

We have a marvelous love for this Government of ours; in fact, it is almost a religion, and it is well that it should be, because we have a splendid form of government and we have a splendid set of laws. We have everything here that we need, except that we have neglected the fundamentals upon which the American Government was principally predicated.

How many of you remember the first thing that the Declaration of Independence said? It said: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that there are certain inalienable rights for the people, and among them are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness;" and it said further, "We hold the view that all men are created equal."

Now, what did they mean by that? Did they mean, my friends, to say that all men are created equal and that that meant that any one man was born to inherit $10,000,000,000 and that another child was to be born to inherit nothing?

Did that mean, my friends, that someone would come into this world without having had an opportunity, of course, to have hit one lick of work, should be born with more than it and all of its children and children's children could ever dispose of, but that another one would have to be born into a life of starvation?

That was not the meaning of the Declaration of Independence when it said that all men are created equal or "That we hold that all men are created equal."

Nor was it the meaning of the Declaration of Independence when it said that they held that there were certain rights that were inalienable—the right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Part 2

February 23, 1934

Adapting his rhetoric to the techniques of broadcasting, Louisiana senator Huey P. Long used a nationwide radio address to spread his ideas about the redistribution of wealth.

"I can't remember," Huey P. Long reminisced in 1935, "back to a time when my mouth wasn't open whenever there was a chance to make a speech." Long's oratorical prowess was a powerful asset in a colorful and controversial political career that began with his election to the Louisiana Railroad Commission in 1918 and culminated in his election to the United States Senate in 1930. As governor of Louisiana (1929-1932), he instigated much needed reforms—the poll tax was abolished, roads and bridges constructed, and free textbooks supplied to all Louisiana schoolchildren—but exercised a near-dictatorial control over state politics and government that continued while he served in the Senate.

Long's rhetoric was a distinctive blend of humor and invective, scripture and profanity, brutal fact and absurd analogy, couched in a populist vernacular that made the impoverished citizens of rural Louisiana feel that he was one of them. "Better than any other politician I've known," one newsman recalled, "Huey knew what his audiences wanted to hear." In the Senate, Long employed his flamboyant declamation, loud attire, and irreverent antics—which made good copy for reporters and filled the Senate galleries whenever the "Terror of the Bayous" took to the floor—to advocate a serious agenda. "I had come to the United States Senate," he later explained, "with only one project in mind…that…I might do something to spread the wealth of the land among all of the people."

Long's February 23, 1934 "Every Man a King" (PDF) address, broadcast over the NBC radio network, signaled a new phase in his longstanding effort to secure a more equitable distribution of the nation's wealth. He had introduced legislation in the Senate in 1932 and 1933 to limit incomes and redistribute wealth, but even amid the widespread suffering of the Great Depression, his proposals died in committee because they were considered too radical to be taken seriously. President Franklin D. Roosevelt thought the Louisiana senator was "one of the two most dangerous men in the country" and handled him with care. Long had helped FDR secure the 1932 Democratic nomination but broke with the administration in 1934. Convinced that the New Deal would not effect a redistribution of wealth, outraged at the president's use of patronage to undercut him in Louisiana, and determined to fulfill his own presidential ambitions, Long took his cause to the American people with his "Every Man a King" radio address.

Long borrowed his title, which he also used for his 1933 autobiography, from a speech by 1896 Democratic presidential candidate and free silver advocate William Jennings Bryan. Suiting his style to his radio audience, Long explained his agenda in simple, repetitive phrases. In this and later broadcasts explaining the "Share Our Wealth" program, his style was, in Paul C. Gaske's words, "a combination of self-absurdness, intensity, and conviction" that made his "amalgam of populism, technocracy, the Bible, and Share Our Wealth, especially appealing." "Every Man a King" was essentially a restatement of the redistribution proposals that the Senate had rejected in 1932 and 1933, buttressed by many of the same spurious arguments and homely analogies but animated by a new strategy. "Write me and let me send you data on this proposition," Long invited his listeners. "Share Our Wealth societies are now being organized," he urged—with more optimism than truth—"and people have it within their power to relieve themselves from this terrible situation."

Abuse filter question

Preview of Filter 78 "Academic fraud"'s abuse log.

Hi, Cassie (talk) – contribs (newdel)edit-countblock (remlist)all logsgroupscheckuser. I have a question; what makes an abuse filter, say, decide to block vs warn you. What filters would your autoconfirmed be revoked, and how would that conflict with other permissions(notably administrator)? And how come they are programmed to block for 90 days? Happy new years, --Gale5050 complain about me! 21:22, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Much of what the abuse filter can do is fine-tuneable. On Uncyclopedia, the "revoke user rights" and "remove autoconfirm" abilities are seldom used because of how easily they can create false positives for admins. What the abuse filter does, on the other hand, depends on the filter. Most general rules are configured to either disallow the edit (e.g. adding links to a page without having had any prior editing on Uncyclopedia), whilst others will simply warn you (e.g. removing many templates as a new user). Some filters are "warn-and-block": these filters, which usually cover a subset of spam (shopping spam, lottery spam), will give you a warning, MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-spamblock, and attempting to perform the same edit again will result in a block. Finally, there are the "instant block" filters: they usually cover extremely specific cases of spam, such as Viagra upsell spam and academic fraud (essay ghostwriting) spam. These are configured to ban IPs for 3 months (not any longer, in order to prevent false positives), and to ban new (spambotk users infinitely (since the possibility of a false positive there is 0).
As for preventing right revocation, most filters are designed to solely check users with 0 edits, or non-autoconfirmed users. Sysops are automatically considered as autoconfirmed, so losing all of our sysops is impossible unless an admin chooses to maliciously tinker with the abuse filter.
Hope this helped. Happy New Year (fuck 2020),  Cassandra  (talk09:31pm  December 31, 2020
Like, what would I have to do to lose autoconfirmed on a filter? --Gale5050 complain about me! 22:55, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Right now, there are no filters that can remove your auto confirmed rights. Additionally, since you already are auto confirmed, you are basically immune to any filters that could have you blocked. So... TL;DR: You're all good.  Cassandra  (talk11:34pm  December 31, 2020
