Azumanga Daioh is a manga (come on, it's in the name..) and later anime franchise that focuses on several psychotically stupid girls (and Chiyo) that live in Place, Japan. The series was panned by critics for its awful plot, awful characters, and awful "animation".

History

Azumanga Daioh was created by Kiyohiko Azuma, an artist. One day, he was walking his pet dog, when he saw a group of high school girls. However, in their place, Azuma only saw money signs. Instead of checking himself into a psychiatrist, Azuma saw this as a sign from God that he was to start work on his new comic series, which he named after himself. He sent it to multiple different magazines, who initially ignored him and said that there were too many manga about high school girls. Azuma, not letting these pathetic little magazines stomp all over his dream to create the world's best comic series ever, threatened to bomb the headquarters of these magazine companies until one of them, Dengeki Daioh finally relented and decided to publish it.

There are characters in Azumanga Daioh.

• Mihama Chiyo (also known as Chiyo-Chan) is the reincarnation of Albert Einstein. Chiyo is a genius, which means that she got to skip several grades and go straight to high school. Her classmates are all intimidated by her, and make sure to treat her with the respect she rightfully deserves. Except Tomo. Poor Chiyo-Chan gets hurt in almost every episode of Azumanga Daioh.
• Ayumu Kasuga was a transfer student from the city of Osaka. Not much is known about the real Ayumu. She went missing after the events of the first episode.
• "Osaka" is a creature that most likely murdered Ayumu Kasuga and took her place within the school. She is very, very stupid. She speaks with a Houston accent. She is friends with Chiyo-Chan, and is part of a militant group known as the Bonkuras. For more information on Osaka, please look at the guide on the right.
• Tomo Takino is a hyperactive, stupid girl who fears no god, not even Chiyo-Chan. All of her "friends" hate her, except for the Bonkura group, which is made up of like-minded people. Tomo Takino, while never convicted, is a suspect in the burning of Fantoft Stave Church in Norway.
• Yomi Mizuhara is an obese fatass. She's so fat that even mentioning her name fucks up the whole page formatting (she's just that fat). Despite having an intense hatred towards Tomo, she's just as evil as her sometimes, feeding Osaka a super spicy croquette.
• Sakaki is a very mysterious girl. She always sits at the back of the class, probably plotting something evil..
• Kagura is the leader of notorious terror group The Bonkuras. She is the only black character in Azumanga Daioh. She is somehow stupider than Tomo. She is very competitive and is obsessed with Sakaki, though not as much as Kaorin is..
• Kaorin is a lesbian. That's it, that's her entire quirky personality trait.

The Teachers

• Yukari Tanizaki is an alcoholic, a criminal (stealing one of her students' bikes), and a horrible teacher who has traumatized multiple of her students by taking them on rides on the Yukari-mobile (patent pending), a horrifically beat up car.
• Nyamo Kurosawa is the nicer teacher, who actually cares for her students, unlike Yukari, who has gone to great lengths to try to kill them. During a trip to Chiyo's summer house, she traumatized them all with a drunken talk about sex.
• Kimura is a pedophile obsessed with Kaorin. Again, that's his entire personality trait.

• Chiyo's father is a cat-like creature appropriately named Chiyo Father. It does not like being called the Prime Minister, Mori.
