Um..[edit source]
I have a slight concern that "rewrite this page" sends a message to the orig author only, not anyone else who might come along. (I.E. I didn't write it, so I can't rewrite it.) I'm attempting to brainstorm a better Mr. T. sounding quote which encourages anyone to rewrite the page. Feel free to assist. --Famine 18:39, 30 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I see someone added a 30 days warning to this template. Previously it hadn't been there because the idea was that Rewrite would be the one tag that was not timed, just a way of listing the page in Category:Rewrite, which is linked from the front page. Are we changing that? Also, do we want to rewrite the text of this tag in accordance with our attempts to be noob-friendlier. Note, though, that I really hope this category does not become a crap recepticle. It should be a list of pages that outside authors should be able to find projects in. ---Rev. Isra (talk) 17:29, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- I see someone reverted the change of a random user who was just fucking around and added the 30 day warning with no discussion nor any real reason. Oh, that was me who reverted it. Carry on. 11/7 23:06
The shortcomings of {{rewrite}}[edit source]
All right, so you've got an article, it's about a sort of notable subject (so it apparently doesn't belong in Articles to fix), it's currently unacceptable, but there's still some hope lingering among the dregs, and its problem isn't really cleanup. Right now, this is the template you're "supposed" to use under the circumstances, and I understand why, but here's the catch: what if it isn't accurate to call the article "crap"? Yes, "the fool that doesn't rewrite" is absolutely hilarious on articles that really are crap. But not every less-than-brilliant article is.
This is why I made {{Shiningstub}}, and I figure anyone could made (and possibly already has made) a hundred other alternatives. While it's currently tagged as a "stub template", I haven't exactly been using it as such (whoops), and my reasons why are basically listed in the above paragraph. So, should something (not necessarily Shiningstub) be made and used as an alternative to {{rewrite}}, or what? — Lenoxus 02:03, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
- I am basically against over-multiplying of templates, so I don't want to add a bunch more to the list. I probably need to consult a few other admins to address what multiplication has occurred. THAT SAID, your comments and your ideas here are good. Rather than make new templates, I'd like to see the working of Template:rewrite replaced. Mr. T. has had his run, and quite frankly he never quite fit the job. Both idea and shining stub look good and convey the correct meaning. We could sub one or both into template rewrite and change the usage guidelines to go better with their text. Anyhow, this discussion probably belongs on the dump. ---Rev. Isra (talk) 14:22, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, this should be in the dump. Also, famine said that he was going to make rewrite into an ICU esque template.. But I don't think he got round to doing it. —Braydie 14:24, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
You say you want a revolution...[edit source]
Done, I just hope the several options described in the "article" bellow aren't too messy for beginners. -- herr doktor needsAbrain [scream!] 22:18, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Problem with Rewrite/Hard[edit source]
I just changed {{rewrite}} to {{rewrite/Hard}} on Hypothermia, and all the rewrite categories disappeared from the article. Is this a bug in the template, or PEBKAC? Pentium5dot1 01:21, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- PEBKAC? I'm not familiar with that term. -- 01:23, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair. Or in other words, user error. In this case, I'm wondering whether it's a user error to just change the template without removing the old one first.
- I just had a similar problem when I changed {{rewrite}} to {{rewrite/Medium}} on Windows Media Player. Would it be a good idea for me to manually categorize the articles while the bug is being investigated? Pentium5dot1 01:27, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Eureka! PEBKAC is right: I was supposed to pass parameters to the rewrite template; I wasn't supposed to call /medium and /hard directly. That's what I get for not reading this template page more carefully. This bug report is now closed as invalid. Pentium5dot1 01:29, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
New Rewrite Templete[edit source]
This is a Rewrite Templete I made including Dave Mustaine (Founder of Megadeth) in his younger years. This included him trash talking (as he did), and I also including some lyrics from the song "Good Mourning/Black Friday" by his band (again, Megadeth), but edited a little bit to have them make sense with everything else. The Megadeth fanboys will still figure it out though. He also says how the article is worse then Metallica (since he had a rivalry with them). So, I am here because I would like this to be added in the "Character" section. Thank you for your time :)
"Dave Mustaine does not like this article!" | |||
What the fuck is this? You think you can go around and produce some shitty article like this? For god's sake, it's worse then Metallica. Save yourself from getting your fucking ass kicked by rewriting this unnecessary shit that you call "a work of art", because it actually isn't at all. If you don't, I'll first take out your organs, then cut off your head. Then, the remains of your flesh will sop under my feet. Trust me, I will be out to destroy you, and I will cut you down.
Bitch! Now excuse me, I have another gig to take care of. |
