Just wanted to know:

  • How come I can't see my deleted contributions? I need an answer. DJ Mixerr 22:37, October 3, 2010 (UTC) User:DJ Mixerr/sig
Only God can see his deleted contributions. They are awesome. Aleister 22:39 3 10
Really? What are they like? DJ Mixerr 22:45, October 3, 2010 (UTC) User:DJ Mixerr/sig
This is only one of God's deleted contributions, he "accidently" happened to leave it lying around somewhere so we are able to see it.--Al
I'm pretty sure admins can resurrect stuff... if you asked nicely, one might be willing to restore things to your userspace. Or osmething. I dunno. But while things are still deleted, ain't noone who can see them. No one! *flails* ~ Pointy.png *shifty eyes* (talk) (stalk) -- 20101004 - 01:19 (UTC)
I just want to know where they go to. DJ Mixerr 01:36, October 4, 2010 (UTC) User:DJ Mixerr/sig
They go away. Dregs of the database. Unreachable tables. Perhaps, once could say, they become ghosts of the machine... ~ Pointy.png *shifty eyes* (talk) (stalk) -- 20101004 - 01:42 (UTC)
Where would that be exactly? DJ Mixerr 01:49, October 4, 2010 (UTC) User:DJ Mixerr/sig
Do you want me to explain the structure of a MySQL database, or are you not really looking for an exact answer? ~ Pointy.png *shifty eyes* (talk) (stalk) -- 20101004 - 02:01 (UTC)
Please explain it to me. DJ Mixerr 02:56, October 4, 2010 (UTC) User:DJ Mixerr/sig
Wee-eell... simple answer: the SQL database stores information in tables. These tables link to each other though sharing common values, for instance in the case of this, there are tables for revisions which connect to tables of, say, the pages for which the revisions are. The entire thing is essentially an interconnected tree, values for each thing connect to each other through a chain of other values. What changes when things are deleted in this case, however, are usually the intermediate values; from what I can tell, only the highest level database administrators have rights to remove things completely. Basically, when things are deleted, they don't actually go anywhere; their connections are merely severed. They won't ever render on the ui end without the intermediate steps, mind, as the wiki renders through php calls to this database and there is no direct access. but they are still in there. But those with rights can restore the intermediate steps.
Disclaimer: I'm really tired, so I'll be rather surprised if that explanation actually makes any sense.
Complex answer: giant squid on a rock! Wait, er... um, if you want a complex answer, ask a database developer or some such. My understanding is pretty rudimentary. ~ Pointy.png *shifty eyes* (talk) (stalk) -- 20101004 - 03:45 (UTC)
Thank you for answering!! You helped me with this. I think I get it now. DJ Mixerr 18:11, October 6, 2010 (UTC) User:DJ Mixerr/sig
Oh man, if I were an admin, I would all be like, "I will let you find out through experience by deleting this forum, and letting you figure out what happened to it." And everyone would be like lololollolololol snooty admin, with his snooty comments, and I would be like whatever, no one even saw it because I deleted the forum, so screw you. It. would. be. AWESOME. Would you remember to delete the log of the deletion, too? Or was it a different access level that can do that? Eh, I forget. ~ Pointy.png *shifty eyes* (talk) (stalk) -- 20101004 - 04:02 (UTC)
It wouldn't matter if you did. Deleting it from the deletion log just logs it in the deleted deletion log. It's like a mobius strip, except that it never ends. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 04:17, October 5, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, perfect. The whole mediawiki thing is even more convoluted than I thought. I love it. ~ Pointy.png *shifty eyes* (talk) (stalk) -- 20101005 - 13:33 (UTC)
We here at Uncyclopedia recently converted to 3D in an attempt to stay hip and edgy by tagging along on the latest fads. Because of that fact, you'll need the special 3D glasses in order to see your deleted contributions. If you don't have a pair yet, simply send a check for $9.99 $19.99 to yours truely and I'll rush a pair out to you. You're responsible for shipping of course --John Lydon 16:49, October 5, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the update!! DJ Mixerr 18:11, October 6, 2010 (UTC) User:DJ Mixerr/sig

What's a contribution?

What? -- Style Oranssiviiva.jpg Guide 18:19, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

I think it was a scandal involving contras, Ollie North, and bunitions or something.  Avast Matey!!! Happytimes are here!* Happytimes.gif (talk) (stalk) Π   ~ Xkey280.jpg ~  05 Oct 2010 ~ 05:11 (UTC)
No, User:Happytimes, it's not a scandal.DJ Mixerr 18:11, October 6, 2010 (UTC) User:DJ Mixerr/sig
It was, I remember now. It had those contrary tribunes and they went... was it that? I think it was. Anyway, I know what you mean. -- Style Oranssiviiva.jpg Guide 20:26, October 6, 2010 (UTC)
