Well, I haven't seen one for the Fallout wiki here, and that's apparently the second most popular wikia wiki at the moment. How this deal works: Wikia gets the name Uncyclopedia.org, to use however it wishes. It also gets the use of the Uncyclopedia wiki, to use however it wishes. Wikia has complete control to change whatever it likes whenever it likes. Wikia controls the domain to change it to whatever name it likes whenever it likes. Wikia has the power to change the advertisements, or add more, or remove content it doesn't approve of, at its discretion. We get a host for our wiki. It didn't start out this way (and Wikia has thankfully refrained from exercising many the powers it claims to have), but, in the words of Lando Calrissian "This deal is getting worse all the time." All I have ever wanted to know is what we cost Wikia, and what we make for them by way of return. As we have a "non-profit" license I have always thought it important to know if we are making profit and therefore breaching our license. The response we always get is "it's too complex to work it out, so we don't know". Usually shortly followed by... "You don't make us enough money, so you have to have such and such...". It's the being treated like children which is the most patronising. Until someone who is actually physically able to host us comes forward we are stuck with Wikia. I wish we could have gone with ?pedia, but looking at how reliable the connection to ?pedia has been I doubt those servers could handle us. MrN 12:34, Aug 2

I actually brought this up with sannse while on IRC last night, and she informed me that we were offered the chance to design our own spotlight ad. I didn't remember anything about it, so she linked me to this, which has us being offered a spotlight in a pretty patronizing way, and in the middle of a thread about something we were (and in many cases still are) kind of pissed off about. It doesn't surprise me at all that we basically said no, we don't want that, but, I guess the offer still stands, so if anyone wants to make one it has to be I think 200x75 px and not contain anything anyone would consider offensive. I remember seeing several discussions on other Wikia wikis (like WoWWiki) where Wikia wanted to change the domain name and the community was against it. Now I'm just kinda wondering how they got to keep their domain names, while we're stuck with this wikia.com shit. Well I don't know about the other guys, but here's my take on it... We discussed. Yea. Mostly a lot of talking... The point is that we don't actually have someone who has come forward who has a ability to host us. ?pedia did move from Wikia, and we could have moved with them but the majority of the group agreed that it was better to stay with Wikia. Largely as it appeared that the servers which were hosting ?pedia would not physically be able to handle the load of hosting Uncyc. Also Wikia paid money when they bought the domain name, and would be unlikely to allow us to have it if we decided to move. If we did set-up on our own it would be a pain in the arse if Wikia decided to make things difficult for us. Although not impossible. A group of Uncyc users (including myself) met sannse in person for a night out in London a while back. I can tell you that Sannse is as delightful in person as she is on the Wiki. That's what makes taking about this so tricky. Basically my take on it was that although Wikia were clearly screwing more cash out of us at our expense it was not so bad as to justify radical action. By that I mean that we would have needed to start raising money from the user base. Now if someone actually did have the ability to host us and they did come forward then things might be different. Like many of us, I'm now waiting to see what Wikia's next trick is. I guess depending on that we will see what happens. Wikia are also clearly making a mockery of our non-commercial license. The whole idea of us forming a "private" group to discuss things privately was not a good idea, and should not be repeated again. It would have been far better to keep all discussion in public on the wiki. I saw no value for us in keeping the discussion private. MrN 20:39, Aug 2

I do think Wikia would make it hard for us to go elsewhere, considering they fork out (or at least used to; I'm not sure if they do anymore) the money for the PLS which we would have to fund ourselves should we move. It would be nice to know how much they bought the domain for, how much we cost them and how much moneys we bring them (mind them, it's not about the money! it's about the humor!). That could give us a better idea of where we stand for any future opportunities. I take it we don't have a right to know that information though? --EMC ^[TALK] 15:47, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

I think if we were recognized by the government as an ACTUAL non-profit organization, we could possibly get such information to see if our license was being violated. Well, there is the alternative of dumping everything here, leaving the site and starting anew elsewhere, with or without Wiki's permission. I would be wholly behind any move, or whatever the cabal decide, since, as you know by now, I'm rather hacked off with Wikia and the sooner Uncyc dumps them the better.

I went to a very nice Italian restaraunt for lunch testerday. My wife wanted to order calamari for an appetizer and as I thouroughly enjoy seafood, I wholeheartily agreed. My wife likes the flavor of calamari but she gets a little disturbed by it's appearance, especially the tentacle clusters. When the calamari arrives we dug in and were enjoying it when I held up one of the aforementioned tentacle clusters and said "look honey, you can still see the little suckers". Ok, since we're running with this sandwich metaphor, let's get the order straight. First, the sandwich deal is made. It's a free sandwich, who's going to turn that down? Then, weeks later after you go there every day, you're told to wear the shirt. It's a free sandwich, and though you never had to wear a shirt advertising the place before, you think that's not so bad a deal. Before you know it, you're wearing a hat and their shoes, too. People you know start asking why you're being such a corporate sell-out. You explain it's all part of this deal you've made for free sandwiches, but they're not buying it. You lose a lot of friends as a result. Then, one day you walk into the restaurant and they tell you they've legally changed your name so you can continue eating their free sandwiches. But, since you're too lazy to go find another place to eat (plus, where will you find free sandwiches?), you continue to eat there and you now have to sign your name as Colonel Fluffybottoms on legal documents. Well actually, the free sandwich originally came with ads calamari. And it was only later we took out the tentacles (in exchange for... ummm... pickles?), which may have made Optimuschris' wife happier. And remember that we didn't make you wear the t-shirt, or have the calamari back, but frankly all this bread does cost. If I remember correctly, not a few people were upset when the Wikia spotlights replaced the Google Ads. I'm sure if we went back to that deal, with the Google Ads at Uncyclopedia.org, we'd all shutup and start singing Wikia's praises again (like I used to, back in the day). Barring that, I'm sure we can come to SOME sort of an agreement, but the status quo is not acceptable from our point of view.
