The Simpsons is an adult animated cartoon television saga extraordinaire created by Matt Groening, Sam Simon and James L. Brooks way back in the 89s when such a thing called an adult animated television saga extraordinaire never existed. The show's basic concept proports to revolve around a titular family whose purpose is to make it day by day like every other family that came before them, but it is actually a comedy sketch show whose sole focus is to punch out jokes, gags and lines that are subsequently merchandised within the show's vast merchandise network into T-shirts, hats, and basically any form of subliminal advertising to get you to watch The Simpsons. The show is noted for an unfathomably long run that has lasted into the present day, consisting of a huge number of seasons, a small number of episodes that'll make you pee your pants and a exorbitant amount of world records that rival the country of Dubai.[1] How many times this show has been renewed, I don't know, but it has been renewed until the heat death of the universe last I heard.
Conception[edit | edit source]
Matt Groening came up with this wonderful family on the spot when Tracy Ullman request Matt Groening take his "Life in Hell" comics and turn it into an animated sketch for the show. He could have done lame rabbits, and the article would end here, but he didn't! Instead he rough drafted a family filled with colorful characters: Bart, the spiky haired 10 year old; Lisa, the spikey haired 8 year old; Marge, a housewife with obnoxiously large blue beehive hair; Homer, the fat dad; and Maggie, a baby for some reason but 5 is the magic number!
Groening then relied on the help of Klasky Csupo who would work on early Simpsons sketches only to steal the concept later on and "create" a show for Nickelodeon called Rugrats, which was whatever in my book and didn't last as long. While the sketches were crude and unfunny, people loved it, and the rest, they say, is history!
Series[edit | edit source]
History until the sketches became so popular that the Faux Fox Network decided to make them into a series hoping to continue the momentum of the television saga extraordinaire. 13 episodes were ordered but only one made it to air, "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire" which introduced a lot of the shows initial traits. The rivalry between Ned Flanders' family and The Simpsons, Santa's Little Helper, Bart's rude and crude personality and the true meaning of Christmas, which is that everything goes according to plan. There were 12 other episodes but I don't remember what happened in them.[2]
The series would continue to garner steam amongst an audience of computer nerds, sophisticated college grads and of course, some piece of the television audience and would garner steam with such episodes like the "Monorail" episodes which introduced quirky humor, tons of quotable lines and of course, "The Monorail Song". Who could not forget about that song? "Monorail! Monorail! Monorail!!!". Then there were episodes where The Simpsons went to Australia because they were found guilty of some crime they didn't commit, The Simpsons would move out of their city and into a new one and the family hated it so they had to move back, several "Treehouse of Horror" segments which were okay but didn't make me pee my pants in fear featuring the loveable Kang and Kodos and of course, a Sideshow Bob episode where Bart is afraid of getting killed by Sideshow Bob. Many episodes would showcase The Simpsons ubiquity by placing the family in situations (which I can't remember because they weren't as funny) and then using them to relate to said situation using their notableness, which in turn would fuel the quality of the adult animated television saga extraordinaire that is The Simpsons for years to come!
Series Under Mike Scully[edit | edit source]
Some say the series would start to suck under Mike Scully, with many of them cursing him under their breath for jealousy reasons but the series got more notable and more funny under those years. Episodes like Lisa giving everybody edible green flakes under their skin, Homer wearing a diaper and getting raped by a panda and the Family going to Japan so they could watch a seizure TV show represent the evolution and pinnacle of humor that The Simpsons is known for. It can be said that the show got more brilliant and more funny under the Scully years compared to past years which had jokes that were alright and satire that could of been written better and stuff... I remember laughing so hard at the episode where Homer hit his own balls that it made me laugh for 10 days straight, 10 DAYS STRAIGHT! Truly no show in the world could top the brilliance and utter depth that is The Simpsons...
Series Under Al Jean[edit | edit source]
Al Jean is a visionary and a jeanius (see what I did there) when it comes to managing the longevity and quality of the series known as The Simpsons. If you thought Mike Scully was funny, you should see Al Jean. Under him, the episodes became more wacky and therefore more funny. You remember the time Homer was spinning in a washing machine? It was funny and hard-hitting, sure other shows have "done it" but once The Simpsons has done it, then it's over with, history, enough said.[3]
As the years went by, no new showrunner took his place. Many people started to complain but that's because they wanted to see somebody take over the reigns of somebody who was already doing a crackerjack job. Conspiracies floated around like "the episodes just repeated themselves" and "the animation wasn't as good" and one thing that just grinded my gears was that "the show wasn't funny anymore".
The. Show. Wasn't. Funny. Anymore?
I'll have you know that The Simpsons is better than it ever was, it is the pinnacle of satire and the pinnacle of humor just because it's been around the longest. It's an American Institution. I mean when you see Maggie transform into a robot and spank Homer until he's red in the butt, that's what I'm talking about. Al Jean is a genius, he is smart and most importantly. Funny with a capital F!
Plus his Treehouse of Horror sketches are genuinely funny. Have you seen the one where Bart had alien sex in a parody of Avatar, now that had me shivering in fear. Honestly! I had nightmares for 10 days straight![4]
So what if the show isn't as good according to you. It's good according to me!
Series Under Disney (Still Al Jean)[edit | edit source]
It could be said that the purchase of 20th Century Faux Fox by Disney is one of the best purchases of all time, why? Because it unlocked a brand new chapter for The Simpsons called synergy and that synergy allowed it to be funnier than it's ever been before.
Disney proceeded to create specials based around a plethora of brands such as Marvel, Star Wars and Disney+ Day and they were all splittingly funny. By placing The Simpsons in brand recognition with these entities, it maximized it's presence therefore maximizing the satire the show has been known for times a million. See The Simpsons are funny when they're around other things, just using their influence to make things funny. Haters may say that it's blatant promotion for Disney, that all Disney cares about is the money, money, money and nothing else but if you think about it. It's actually clever satire.[5]
The show left Fox Network for Disney Channel around some time in the future because Fox could not afford it anymore. The show continued to involve in it's humor by involving more satirical edge. The show also began to incorporate more fantastical elements into it's premise, making magic, science fiction, epic battles and poop humor a thing in Springfield. Fans would begin to hate it but to a fan like me, it meant that The Simpsons got better every day.
Series After All the Voice Actors Died in a Freak Accident[edit | edit source]
Oh you are testing me aren't you? I know they sound awkward and not like the originals but the plots are still there. I just watched an episode where Homer builds a giant mecha robot and fights Godzilla and wins! If that isn't top tier entertainment, I don't know what is! Besides, Marge's voice is believable. She doesn't have the nasty voice and sounds a lot more cleaner to me and plus they didn't change around the core dynamics to much. Bart and Lisa are still fighting, they're just have a better relationship than before. Some of you people don't like that the show is changing!
Series After The Simpsons go into space, fight the devil and achieve world piece[edit | edit source]
There are a lot of people who say that The Simpsons has jumped the shark, those same people are ignorant of the fact that this show has had a lot of Star Wars/Marvel crossovers and they even had their own canon MCU film. Synergy people! Don't people know what the word synergy means! It means synergy! Besides, very few families could do what The Simpsons could do.
Marvel Studios' The Simpsons[edit | edit source]
Yes, they had their own MCU film in which Dr. Strange contacts them and tells them to go to universe C-137 in order to fight off against the resurrection of Thanos who has all the infinity stones again. Using their cunning wit, strength, superpowers and team-up with Spiderman. They save the day and return to Springfield as heroes. All the key elements of a masterpiece are here, satire, humor, Iron Man making a quip here and there, action sequences with lots of CGI. It was a standard MCU film but to me, it was better than all the other films combined. Steven Spielberg is a hack director when compared to Al Jean, the mastermind behind this movie masterpiece.[6]
Series After Electricity is Gone and Humanity is On it's Last Knees[edit | edit source]
Now this... I just use the memory I have for my old Simpsons episodes and recreate the episode using shadowpuppets and vocal impressions. Some may say that it doesn't feel like, look like or even is The Simpsons and many people have complained that my Marge impression sounds like Patty & Selma but to me, they're the memories of the best series ever on planet Earth, the Simpsons.
Hallmarks[edit | edit source]
A show like The Simpsons has a lot of defining qualities to it... So much so that they serve as hallmarks to the television saga extraordinaire that has been largely consistent throughout it's entire run.
Opening Sequence[edit | edit source]
Who doesn't remember the opening sequence where the words The Simpsons fly at you?, Springfield springs to life and Homer runs away from a sentient car that hits him in the end because it's funny. Don't say that I can't remember it because I do, I remember there are jokes in there that change every episode and I know jokes. I know sight gags, I know hidden quips and most importantly, I know satire when I see it. Sure I don't remember it but when there's so many jokes to remember, how can you?
Recurring Characters[edit | edit source]
The show has a lot of recurring characters who's last name does not end with Simpson. There's a Clown who's funny because he tells good jokes, there's a principal who serves as Bart's fallman, there's a fat guy who likes comics, there's God who is an active part of Springfield mind you!, there's the boss of the nuclear plant who I think is in his 60s or something... And then there's Patty and Selma who smoke and have deep voices... There's like more characters but when there's so much funny, how can you remember them?
Usage of Sophisticated Humor[edit | edit source]
Now I know satire and The Simpsons is satirical cause they are a satire of a sitcom. Just look at all the characters in the show, they do satirical things like... get kicked in the balls and make references to NPR whatever that is. It also does humor on some complicated stuff I'll never be able to understand like presidents and stuff... How am I supposed to know my presidents when I sit in a room and watch The Simpsons, the funniest show in all of the land! Some people may mock me for not getting all my presidents down but I can tell a funny Simpsons joke in 5 seconds or less.
There are some jokes that fly over my head like one of the early Treehouse of Horror episodes where they mention some dead writer in a sketch because they thought it would be funny. That was not funny at all, I don't know who this dead writer is but he must of came back to the grave because he heard about The Simpsons and thought that shit was his ticket back to being famous. Nice try dead guy! There's also an episode where Homer wears a mask and does stuff that I don't think was funny because I didn't get the reference or something. This is why nobody can be better than Al Jean, because he makes better humor that doesn't require you to read books and stuff. Books are long, complicated and the words aren't even good in them; it's like they're trying too hard to be smart or something.[7]
Breaking New Ground[edit | edit source]
Since it's been on the air for an eternity or so, The Simpsons has broken so much ground that they might as well built a thousand Springfield's across these United States and rename the United States "Simpsonsvilleland". It broke a lot of ground for all people, like gay people for example. Gay people didn't exist and since The Simpsons made multiple episodes about them, gay people now exist. How about those records they've broken, well if they didn't pump out episode after episode every single day then they wouldn't of had the record for "longest lasting television saga extraordinaire" or something like that. They go after every ground possible and if it weren't for The Simpsons then maybe gay, deaf, blind, ethnic and lizard people wouldn't be around in such a form.[8]
Controversy[edit | edit source]
Like every other show out there, this show is not immune to the thousands of haters who want to ruin the fun for Simpsons viewers like me.
Allegations of Quality Decline[edit | edit source]
As I have mentioned in this article. There has been allegations of quality decline within The Simpsons. I feel like this is a conspiracy set up behind nostalgia addicts, Universal Passholders, Warner Bros, Satan and anybody who doesn't like the savior of The Simpsons Al Jean. They have produced tons of detail including 100,000 word essays, graphs, pictures, speeches, anything to illustrate that such a decline exists.
The show has not experienced any decline of any sort, any sort of decline mention is often a cause of a person who claims that Universal is a better theme park than Disney will ever be. I mean look at the Universal Parks, they can't be better than Disney Parks because Disney puts pride and care into their parks plus they were first with several innovations. Universal is just a thrill ride wannabe that want to take the crown off of Disney's head but can't because Disney is much better than Universal at everything. I detest having to go to Universal to ride my favorite ride. The Simpsons Ride. When they claim that The Simpsons has declined in quality. Hogwash bullshit!
It is not true that The Simpsons has experienced a decline of shorts. Moreso it has experienced an incline of quality uptick with every episode being better than the next and I sure as hell not going to let some Warner Bros convince me otherwise.
Censorship[edit | edit source]
Some episodes had to be censored but there are good reasons behind it! There were several episodes that slandered China that could not be allowed to air, any episode disrespecting China is disrespecting Disney, My BFF Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Cinderella, Winnie the Pooh and Phineas and Ferb who are all friends of mine and all watch The Simpsons at my house with my Disney+ membership which contains all episodes of The Simpsons. There's also an episode featuring Michael Jackson that is not allowed to be mentioned in my household again. Michael Jackson is a pedophile who's been using The Simpsons and fingering them for his own perverted desires.[9]
There was also an episode that was censored because the UAE were afraid of the prophet Muhammed. I wouldn't want countries bombing us because of The Simpsons, that would be unfair and cause the show to get pulled and we can't get the series pulled. Not before it's 100th season!
Alf Clausen[edit | edit source]
People were pissed off because The Simpsons fired this old hack composer who only knew how to do Big Band and Jazz. I am 100% on the side of Al Jean who says that the composer was just "handing off work to other composers" and wasn't doing his job, how else do you describe the music that wasn't Big Band or Jazz, it sounds like somebody else did it, cause it's true! Some may say that there's no music anymore since they hire Alf Clausen but the lack of music makes the show funnier. Why? Because without music, I can hear the jokes better and I can then tell the jokes to my employers at work, may be a boring office but I wish I was working at that Nuclear Plant god damn it. All these people do is tell me that my jokes are lame, well I'll show them! By watching more Simpsons episodes!!!
Maggie Speaks![edit | edit source]
There was an episode that aired that featured, for the first time, Maggie speaking in fluent English and the whole family was shocked. Many fans were pissed because "it's a baby and babies aren't supposed to speak". Nonsense! Family Guy was the first to have a talking baby and it's completely logical since babies can technically speak English. I learned that from Baby Geniuses mind you!, anyways... It may have not been original since Arthur copied from Family Guy and The Simpsons did as well but The Simpsons did it in a way that is funny and groundbreaking! Babies all around the world now have a role model now that Maggie can speak and all you people can do is just hate hate hat!
The Trouble with Apu[edit | edit source]
Some people thought a white guy voicing an Indian is offensive to Indian people. I mean do you even know what the animation industry uses to voice it's ethnic characters? That's right, white men. I don't care if you call me racist because I'm not racist for wanting a show to be funny and for a voice to be as it is for decades to come. You people just create sockpuppet accounts on Twitter and convince Apu's actor to drop the role. Have you even read what the Simpsons staff had to say about the character? Did you? To me, they knew what they were doing and what they were doing is being funny. I swear Twitter doesn't even know what The Simpsons is and what it does.[10]
Fake Simpsons Fans Who Only Discovered the Show on Disney+ and Don't Understand It[edit | edit source]
Okay you know what, you people just suck. I tell you what you are, you are a bunch of hatters! All you do is find and exploit anything just so you can pee pee and poo poo on it. You take joy from those watching The Simpsons (like me) just so you can take it for yourself. You are the real villain in this show called The Simpsons if it ever had a villain.
Same goes for you Arthur fans and South Park enthusiasts, all you do is say that your show is better than our show. Well you know who's responsible for taking your precocious Arthur off the air? Me! I wrote a letter to PBS saying that if you don't cancel Arthur then I'll go to PBS headquarters and tell them funny Simpsons jokes until they die from laughter. Yeah, that aardvark and his friends can't compare to Bart Simpson, the coolest kid in the planet. We know you're square and you like to read books Arthur Reed but can you do pranks like Bart Simpson? Can you be bad like Bart Simpson? Sure he might of done a song with a pedophile but he's still the coolest alright!
Don't tell me that Eric Cartman is worse than Bart. So what if he killed his parents and fed him to his worse rival? So what if he gave Kyle Broslowski AIDS? Can he skateboard? is he appealing to kids 10 and under? does he make me laugh? The answer to that is no! So you might as well kill yourself Eric Cartman and Arthur Reed cause Bart Simpson and his family is the coolest family there is! All you haters need to take your hate and channel it into something productive that is not hating on the best show around!
Legacy[edit | edit source]
The show has had a huge legacy with every show after it being directly inspired by it, including fellow ripoff show Family Guy which I hate because it ripped off The Simpsons. It's satire and humor is memorable even to later seasons all because of the show's masterful usage of the family to contrast and poke fun of anything and everything possible. The songs, gags, visual humor and jokes have a wide range of comedy and sophistication to them that no other show has managed to replicate. Whenever I see a monorail I just break out in song and sing the Monorail song even though I know 4 words of it and whenever I go to ride The Simpsons Ride at that rival theme park, I just have a blast. Then I write Disney when are they going to take The Simpsons Ride and put it in their own park.
The show redefined what animation was which in the past was just lame ass cartoons that taught people letters and stuff. Well it wasn't teaching letters and stuff, it was scary, it was funny, it was cool and it was record breaking. Have you seen animation before The Simpsons? It was like, A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I-J-K-L-M-N-O-P. Dude, nobody wants to learn the alphabet except for babies; they just want something to watch that they can laugh at, something more sophisticated and adult which is The Simpsons.
And when the power went out, you know what show they turned to in their time of need. That's right, The Simpsons! Of course I'm the only person doing those puppets for everyone but it's better than having people talk about them 60 Minutes show. I'm tired of people talking about the nuclear crisis and World War III. Why can't we just laugh at my interpretation of The Simpsons. Now that will really heal humanity to the core!
Anyways... If you don't think The Simpsons is a good show then you're an evil person and you deserve to rot in hell! You don't understand it like I do and you don't understand how much of a profound impact it had on Disney+ viewers especially me. It inspired me and it made me laugh and in the end, isn't that what The Simpsons is about? Inspiring people?
