Right, I had no idea "defense" was spelled defence over there. It's all spell-check's fault on this one. I was, however, aware of the paedophile spelling, but I don't even remember altering that one. Hell, more often than not that's how *I* spell it. -- Kippy the Elf Talk Works ☃ 22:45, Aug. 22, 2014
- When I was a kid, I got into the NFL before English football, believe it or not, and I remember a member of my family gently correcting my pronunciation when I mentioned DEE-fence instead of de-FENCE. I also got caught out here once, trying to keep a story AmEng, and changed advertising to advertiZing. I had always assumed all the -ise words became -ize, but then I realised - surprise, enterprise, etc. Which is my problem with American spelling - it's like the bugbears of one guy were changed, when really what would have been great would have been a wholesale change of the system. I don't see that coming now, but in a jingoistic late 18th century it could have happened dash garn it. Leverage (talk) 06:49, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
