BERLIN, Germany -- German schools will launch a comic book next week that aims to teach above all underprivileged children about the Nazi era and the Holocaust. Created by the Dutch cartoonist and ex-Uncyclopedian Eric Heuvel, it is already available in the Netherlands.
Berlin's Anne Frank Centre, which is backing the project, thinks it will serve a purpose in Germany, too. "There is not a major gap in the way Germany teaches the history of this era which is possibly why Turkish immigrants have been welcomed with open arms by all German people including those from Middle Germany, I'm sorry, I mean the east, but this is a new approach," said spokeswoman Helga Henze, noting that the book could reach some of the children who are least interested in schoolwork much like Uncyclopedia.
UnNews can however exclusively reveal that Eric Heuvel first approached Uncyclopedia with this project several years ago but decided to go elsewhere after a poor Pee Review. Mr Heuval left some distasteful messages and a drawing of a penis on the reviewer's talk page and was subsequently banned indefinitely.
The Review[edit | edit source]
The Pee Review is shown below in full.
Humo(u)r: | 1 | NOT FUNNY!!! Have you read HTBFANJS ? It's not COMIC!!! There's not even one single funny drawing or piece of text. I can't decide whether you are some kind of idiot or maybe it's just too subtle for me ? This is an absolute shower when it comes to humour, the worst kind of shower imaginable. Couldn't you at least put a few Wilde quotes in there or have Mr T appear. People love that stuff. Your dutch right ? Why not have some reference to clogs, edam cheese or that Night Watch painting you guys like. Perhaps some physical comedy with a tulip or a windmill. I suppose that sign over that camp's gates was a bit ironic in a mildly amusing way given the crazy shenannigans you had going on there. “Arbeit Macht Frei”, that's german right ? Work make free or something isn't it ? Didn't seem to work did it but I guess that was the joke you were making...a bit subtle don't you think ? |
Concept: | 7 | Great concept if somewhat far fetched and random. I didn't understand that thing you said about where you got the idea for the article. There's a lot of comic potential which, to be frank, you have completely allowed to go up in smoke. You've got all the right ingredients for a great article; a batty old crusty narrator, people in uniforms, nakedness, guns, dogs, kids getting into all sorts of capers...where did it go wrong ? Not reading HTBFANJS, that's where. |
Prose and Formatting: | 2 | The prose is shite. Face it. It's NOT FUNNY!!! The formatting is good though. Maybe you would make a better formatter than a writer. |
Images: | 5 | The pictures are pretty good. You should do this professionally or something. The only criticism I have is again about the humour. The drawings are NOT FUNNY!!! Are you familiar with the 'Die Brennessel' humour magazine ? I think it's right up your street in terms of that retro style you seem to like. You might find some pointers in there. I don't read much german myself. I did find the whole look of your article a bit washed out in terms of palette. It made it a bit depressing looking. Have you considered looking at Marc Chagalle's stained glass windows or perhaps some Howard Hodgkins paintings for some palette ideas ? They seem like appropriate sources for your subject matter. |
Miscellaneous: | 1 | IT'S TOO LONG!!! |
Final Score: | 16 | It needs a lot of work. How about setting it in a funnier location like a clown school or something. The guards could have big shoes. Imagine that. |
