The Rocky Horror Picture Show (often abbreviated to Rocky Horror) is a 1975 cultist science fiction pornographic horror musical comedy based on the 1973 musical stage production The Rocky Horror Show and Richard O'Brien's average Saturday night. Unlike most films, which may be enjoyed at a local movie theater alongside a bag of salted popcorn and an overpriced soda, Rocky Horror is largely considered unwatchable unless the audience is able to shout obscenities at the screen and chuck pieces of toast and toilet paper into the air. Viewers of Rocky Horror also engage in clever commentary by yelling out phrases like "Sex sex sex!" and "How do you masturbate?" at appropriate times, which many interpret to mean every other line.
Plot[edit | edit source]

Characters[edit | edit source]
Dr. Frank N. Furter, a scientist[edit | edit source]
Dr. Frank N. Furter, often referred to as Frankie or the Hot Dog Man, is a cross-dressing bisexual alien mad scientist who kills people.
Janet Weiss, a heroine[edit | edit source]
Janet Weiss is the female protagonist of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and apparently a heroine as well, despite doing nothing heroic throughout the film. Audience members will often shout "Slut!" at Janet whenever she appears on screen because something as clever as that never gets old. Such a label is actually quite ironic as Janet is in fact the least slutty character in the film. The number of Janet's sex partners (three in total) is a record low (with the exception of Riff Raff, who will never get laid). Eddie had five or six sex partners, Columbia had seven, Frankie had more than anyone could possibly count, and Brad probably had a good three or four during his wild college days.
Brad Majors, a hero[edit | edit source]
Riff Raff, a handyman[edit | edit source]
Magenta, a domestic[edit | edit source]
Columbia, an ivy league school[edit | edit source]
Dr. Evett V. Scott, a rival scientist[edit | edit source]
Rocky Horror, a creation[edit | edit source]
Eddie, an ex-delivery boy[edit | edit source]
The narrator, a Warren G. Harding impersonator[edit | edit source]
For some inexplicable reason, the film is narrated by a criminologist, a fact stated in the opening credits and absolutely nowhere else.
