Forum:My sojourn
Hello guys. You might know me, but I will introduce myself just in case: my name is whatever my signature tells you it is. So you might have heard about a project I was organizing on the other uncyclopedia, that concerns My sojourn articles, such as That time I was nearly raped by a yak during my sojourn in Canada or That time I nearly raped a yak during my sojourn in Soviet Russia. You might have heard about the other uncyclopedia.
The point that several people have expressed (for instance, Banzaikitten very recently) is that it doesn't seem to be such a good idea to have several dozen articles, formatted in the same way, that aren't funny without an explanation. The point of the project I am leading is to get them all together in one UnBook, make those that can work work and delete the weaker ones. The result so far is here.
The benefits are numerous: any reader, whether he has read about that formula joke or not, will be able to understand what the joke is after having read several chapters of the same book. The quality of my sojourn article will increase and we'll only keep the best ones, so those who love My sojourns with all their soul will be able to discover and re-discover all of them at once at one stretch of a hand.
What do you think? Anton (talk) 16:49, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
- As per our brief discussion on IRC I think a definite maybe. Perhaps you should get some other opinions. 11:17, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
- I think they really fucked up my Bethsaida article over there. 01:49, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
- I think it would be better to just find the initial Injoke and link all the derivatives at the bottom. Maybe move them to "Injoke mainpage/sub page name" and use the title template to preserve the original name. Some, like Hyperbole's one, are pretty ruined if they get put in a book like that. My unpopular opinion is that having all the Top 10 lists half filled with injokes has been detrimental. I'd much rather we reverted to having all the articles voted in the top 3 of the month instead, because that gives a much broader range of our "best" to chose from. I mean, Template:Boner takes up 1/10 of our "best" one year. It's a dick drawing and the word boner. I'd rather that was one of 36 than 10 of our "best" --Nikau (talk) 05:58, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Nikau, the page was only moved. The original title is a redirect, so if you type that, you'll get to the page. Furthermore, on the actual page the title template makes Hyperbole's title display on the page, not UnBooks:My sojourn/Chapter #. In addition, the redirect itself was categorized, so if you look at Category:My sojourn, the page will display there under its original name. Does this resolve the issue?
- The problem with leaving the pages where they are, is that a random reader may stumble upon them and won't necessarily understand it, and furthermore, the good My sojourns are really hard to find. Anton (talk) 12:08, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- I don't see what the point is. If the original title redirects to the UnBooks section, what difference does it make whether it's in an UnBook or its own article? -- 21:55, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
- My main concern is that right now there seem to be several dozen articles, which are random and not funny out of context, floating around main space. If the best of these several dozen articles would be put together as one book with only a few dozen redirects floating in main space, this wouldn't be such a problem, in my opinion.

- Imagine a random reader who follows a link in some article and gets to a my sojourn page. There is a good chance he won't get it, and to get it, he'll have to go to Category:My sojourn and read the rest of my sojourn-type articles. Now imagine, all the sojourns are subpages of a book. Now, if a random reader follows a link to a my sojourn article - a subpage of the big My Sojourn book, that is - he'll only have to click on Previous chapter or Next chapter to get the joke.
