As many of you know, Google is making us their bitch by dropping us to pageranks of zero and excluding us from search results which we used to top before (such as "Anal bleeding" and "Uncyclopedia"). This also seems to be happening to wikia.com wikis (other than the central one), but not nearly as badly as it is to us. In an attempt to appease them (based on suggestions of the problem in the previous topics) there's been some test modifications prior to a reinclusion request.

  1. Nihilism no longer has same-color text, now it is all hidden (are visiblity: hidden and display: none allowed? a wiki often uses those a lot so it should be).
  2. Template:C. Arg. This was a quick fix for this test period of reinclusion, and I was *hoping* it would go over well. Yet, I had to resort to a mini-revert war and short ban for one user (who felt the need to create Template:C2 twice as well as revert my reversions), as well as defend my position against users who think their joke pages are more important than google linking. Problem is, without google, only they will ever see those pages. Please, until we get a definitive answer from Google or actual results from our tests (who knows which will work first), don't use a bunch of same-color on same-color text.
You mean, like White (colour) and all the other color pages which use Chart of Primary Colors (yeah, "colors", you blasted limeys. Learn to speak American!)?InfiniteMonkey 04:41, 8 June 2006 (UTC) Seriously, thanks for actually doing something about this though.
Yes, like white (the rest seem ok at a glance). Starting a list below. --Splaka 04:48, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
  1. robots.txt has been modified to exclude Game: and Game_talk: namespaces. The darn invisiclues are too well established to easily remove, but it also makes sense to exclude those pages from searches to prevent landing up in the middle of those games by accident.
  2. Asked Jason to change the 'lunch money' header to the appropriate title, which may take a while. apparently not a concern, as the "lunch money" labelled section is outside the code for the google ads.

Note: If {{C}} turns out to be the main culprit of our google woes, we can easily create a new fake namespace prefix called Censored:, and move all pages using Template:C to that namespace, and then add that prefix to robots.txt, thus preventing indexing. However, we won't know if this drastic measure is worth it until we get results. Editing {{C}} was a much faster way to test this concept, but an excluded censored namespace is a much better long term solution if it works. --Splaka 00:30, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

In addition, a certain employee of Wikia apparently has some contacts at google, so we'll see what happens with that too.
Until then, please stop tearing my head off about {{C}}, it is NOT a permanent change. that, means, you! --Splaka 00:31, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
But do we really want to wreck C like that just for the sake of Fuhrer Google? Quite ironic for a tag used on censorship. I still suggest we email google or whatnot and see if we can work this out without wrecking things. I'm sure they'll see our side of the story and realize black-on-black text is not always a reason for a pagerank kill. --User:Nintendorulez 19:20, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

So we still don't know whether we're incurring a duplicate content penalty from other sites scraping or mirroring us? --Carlb 02:43, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Mind you, I don't work for Google, but my so-called "research" seemed to suggest that the duplicate-content penalty wouldn't normally be enough to reduce the PageRanks to zero — but the text-coloring definitely is, at least according to Matt Cutts. Splaka, moving the pages is a good plan - so I take it you've determined that there's no way then to impose a META tag on a wiki page from within an article? The problem is that there are plenty of pages here that include background-colored text which don't use Template:C, and the impression I got was that someone would have to find each and every one of them and move (or tag) them, and somehow keep them that way. So not only do you have the initial chore, but the ongoing vigilance/maintenance hassle as well. Sounds awfully tedious... More of a job for a bot, really. Ugh!  c • > • cunwapquc? 03:08, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
That is what this experiment is intenting to deduce. If it turns out text color was the responsible aspect, then google will have to adapt rather than us, as any wiki could be excluded (even Wikipedia) from just a few offending pages by rogue editors. --Splaka 03:29, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

  • We should talk to chron Yesterday I found out that chron is an intern at google. Maybe he should just hack into google and set our page ranky thing really high? Or at least he can talk to someone high up. Unless he's already done that stuff.... --The Zombiebaron 20:32, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

List of pages possibly needing ethnic cleansing (just list for now)

The link tabs at the top no longer work. Perhaps I'm alone on this, but it seems that enjoyment is from trying to figure out which blank tab was which, which, when they're unclickable, is even more pointless than it would be ordinarily. I don't know much about css, but shouldn't it be possible to make the blanks that I presume are covering the links link to the proper pages? --Spin 04:08, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
I just realized that I left out a major portion of that sentence, but you seem to have gotten the point. --Spin 01:08, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
Not really. The <A> tags contain only text, and to have it clickable but not visible means having it invisible but not disabled. --Splaka 04:39, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
The <eh?> tags could contain an image instead of text... that's how we do the clickable logos at the bottom of the mainpage. They're based on some form of an image used as the description text for an external link. If [http://chronarion.org/meta/index.php http://uncyclopedia.org/images/x/xx/UnMetalogo.png] gets turned into <eh? href="http://chronarion.org/meta/index.php"><img source="images/x/xx/UnMetalogo.png"></eh?> when the page is rendered, why not do the same thing but with an [[image:blackbox.gif]] inside the <eh?>, I mean <A> tags? --Carlb 18:19, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Carl, the <A> tags in the action buttons and navigation boxes on Nihilism are specifically what we are referring to. We can't change them without some unreliable page-specific ugly javascript. --Splaka 03:24, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
Would displaying a (fake) clickable image of a blank tab, then hiding the real tabs work? --Carlb 03:37, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
Feel free to give it a try! *hides*. --Splaka 03:48, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
If i knew more about javascript, i could hack up some css right now, but all I can do is this. For whatever class the <a> tags are, have some thing like this.

a:link {visibility: hidden} a:hover {visibility: visible; color: #FFFFFF; background-color: #FFFFFF} that will make it so that it is normally hidden, but when the mouse hovers over it, it will become visible but hidden by the background. --Atomsk.gif Kaizer the Bjorn takkun Nya? (nya nya) (1961 model!) Check out T61! 18:00, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

I've used some features along those lines a couple of times. I can only recall doing it on End of the World and Template:Propaganda to this point, but I'd have to check for others. Do you want me to fix them to conform to this new standard? It seems that we must all pay our tributes to THE MAN before we can ourselves become him. ~Axeicon.jpgCaputosistheHorribleAxeicon.jpg13:19, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Just put the yellow star on their sleeve for now. --Splaka 03:24, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Still more...

God!

How will I read the censored pages now? It's just not fun anymore to read when you can only see the censored part. FlareNUKE 23:38, 26 June 2006 (UTC)</math>
