Best Noob Article[edit | edit source]

Gosh I saw Paranormal Activity the other day, not bad, not very scary tho.

1. Rules of baseball -Has lots of potential to be something special.
2. N/A
3. UnNews: Meteor shaped like Simon Cowell's head on collision course with Earth - Jokes are a bit contrived but with a little clean up here and there, it could be mildly amusing.
4. N/A
5. Military Action - Too short and too random.

Hopefully next time there will be a few more newbs willing to submit work.

Well that other guy says that I'm supposed to leave feedback, so here goes: I was very disappointed. Only 1 of the 4 articles had a picture, and that picture was tiny. Most weren't put together extremely well either.

1. Rules of Baseball (The only one I would vote for on VFH, and only if it gets some pics. Pretty funny though.)
2. UnNews: Meteor shaped like Simon Cowell's head on collision course with Earth (The idea itself is funny, but the followthrough is less so. Still, it has a chance with some sprucing up.)
3. Military Action (Funny, but way too short, and lacks many actual ideas.)
4. N/A
5. Age of Mythology (No nice way to say it. It's bad. It's pretty much a list, and not a very funny one at that. Still, 4th place is better than what I got when I entered last time. Sorry, but looking at this again, I can't bear to give it 4th place.)

Honestly I felt I was reading my own articles from when I was a noob, but with less pics. That's not a good thing. Sorry if I came off sounding a bit harsh.

Here are my (AK's) results.

1. User:SPIKE/Rules_of_baseball
2. User:Padimir Padoffski/UnNews: Meteor shaped like Simon Cowell's head on collision course with Earth
3. User:Hydronium Ion/Military Action

5. N/A

1.User:Guildensternenstein/Insipid Sentimental Women's Novel. Bizarre piece of literature. Well written, even though I felt there were some inconsistencies in the style. As TPLN said, the ending could have been better (enter the red lolly factor) but all in all a solid piece.
2.User:PuppyOnTheRadio/UnNews:Australia says "You just don't understand our humour!" - That was probably the most annoying piece I ever read. annoying in the sense I now hate aussies. I mean, hate them with a passion. Them and their silly footnotes. But a good piece, mate. Made me want to say "I am Bruce, and so is my wife".
3.User:Orian57/UnRadio:Tricia Bellerose on Pirate FM I loved the concept of this one very much, I don't think we ever had "UnRadio" before. Good concept, solid writing. I had some trouble with some of the punchlines, that might be British humor banging uselessly against my brain. Oh well.
4.User:Necropaxx/HowTo:Fish I think I'll be waking up in the middle of the night screaming:"NO GRANDDAD! NO! PLEASE DON'T TAKE ME TO FISH!" for the rest of my life.
5.User:Mahm00shA/UnTweets:Osama_Bin_Laden pretty much what Colin said, good concept - but Osama didn't come out that well.
1.User:PuppyOnTheRadio/UnNews:Australia says "You just don't understand our humour!" When I first read this, the citations on all of the main text murderfried my eyeballs. Until I actually read the citations. I laughed my fucking ass off. Very well written, with a bit of Monty Pythonesque irreverence. I loved it, good job, POTR.
2.User:Necropaxx/HowTo:Fish This was a very close second. I really like the 2 person perspective on it, even if it only entails the grandson reminding the grandfather of only being 12. I also happen to have fucking loved the lumberjacks in the water image. Overall, very well written, and it felt like everything fit.
3.User:Orian57/UnRadio:Tricia Bellerose on Pirate FM I rather liked this one, it was consistent and stayed on course, and made me laugh. I'm not as informed on the subject manner, so that's where my comments end. Well done.
4.User:Mahm00shA/UnTweets:Osama_Bin_Laden It was a very good concept, that had tons upon tons of potential. It kind of fell on it's face a bit with the whole interpreting Bin Laden as talking like a teenage girl thing, or at least that's how it struck me.
5.User:Why do I need to provide this?/HowTo:Be Homeless in America Again, I liked the concept, but the humor seemed to me a bit...basic. Kind of like it's trying too hard.

I'm adding 6, because there were 6 that caught my eye, so why not?

6.User:Guildensternenstein/Insipid Sentimental Women's Novel Struck me as pretentious and smug, more just mocking the genre than actually making anything funny from it.

Best Illustrated[edit | edit source]

1. User:Monika/The Prisoner (US Remake); With some spit-polish and a bit more time this article could shine even more. But even now, it made me laugh and the images are very good.
1. User:Mhaille/Bi-curious_George; Obviously this Mhaille guy knows what he's doing.
3. User:PuppyOnTheRadio/Microsoft_Knowledge_Base; Not really the sort of thing I was looking for in a PLS entry. Points for trying something different though.

Honorable Mention for Effort: User:Chairman/XKCD; If only there were more people like you willing to try new things at the PLS this category might have had more than four entries. Good job for trying!

1.User:PuppyOnTheRadio/Microsoft_Knowledge_Base
2.User:Mhaille/Bi-curious_George
3.User:Monika/The Prisoner (US Remake)
4.User:Chairman/XKCD
5.User:Acrolo/UnBooks: Olivers Twister
1.User:Mhaille/Bi-curious_George - My favourite entry by far, the illustrations are simple yet effective and made me giggle, which is really the point isn't it. Would definitely vote for on VFH.
2.User:Monika/The Prisoner (US Remake) - Good article but I found it a bit too busy, needs a bit more focus. For example, the section titled 'Miami' could be split up into sub sections, i.e. characters, setting, etc. Cause to a reader not familiar with the series it all gets a bit confusing.
3.User:PuppyOnTheRadio/Microsoft_Knowledge_Base - A funny concept but despite it being an image file, it is still text based, there are no actual 'illustrations'.
4.User:Chairman/XKCD - incomplete
5.User:Acrolo/UnBooks: Olivers Twister - incomplete

Comments: full justification is here. Not a great showing, TBH. Only 2 articles (it will depress me if that Manga stub is allowed to proclaim itself "3rd place in the PLS" - the correct term would be "absolute last place"). I really, really wish I'd entered instead of judging now! --UU - natter UU Manhole.gif 09:37, Oct 22

4. ???
5. Profit!

Comments: Full justification is nowhere. Manowar struck me as disjointed and random, and just didn't make me laugh. Abe Lincoln was better, though I do think it was on the dry side, and could benefit from more headers and more obviousness--the jokes in the body of the article need to punch me in the face with their mighty fist of comedy, instead of sliding by and making me briefly amused. FORTRAN notes: the biggest problem is easy to fix. The article needs to say right off the bat what fortran is--some kinda scripty programmy thing, right? Anyways, I didn't really understand what was going on with that article, probably because I know next to nothing about computers. The page needs to do a better job of making the jokes accessible to the average technologically illiterate reader like myself to have widespread success. - T.L.B. Comment. I'd write a lengthy explanation, but I'd pretty much be repeating everything Led said, though I think I enjoyed Abe Lincoln a bit more than he did. I like dry humor. It would have been nice if there was a third article to judge. Late entry! Fortran provided a few laughs and was coherent while it's competition for second place was a bit random and needs some pruning. It seemed a bit short on content though .and. probably could have used a few more days of work. -OptyC Sucks! Icons-flag-us.png CUN23:18, 23 Oct
