I basically missed out on the issue when it was started, but I just realized that NXWave, is building an actual store that sells Uncyclopedia memorabilia. I don't know if it's up and running yet, but generally speaking I'm opposed to all sort of profits or money related operations made out of souvenirs or any other kind. Seems to me this is against the whole spirit of the wiki, apart from copyright issues mentioned in the previous thread. As suggested by NXWave, let's put this to a vote.

  1. Read my reasons above. ~Jewriken.GIF 12:42, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Instigated without any form of community discussion, or apparently any research into the previous conversations about this. Also a contravention of our CC-BY-NC-SA. I really would like to be for this idea, but I think it requires considerable discussion, clear consensus and Wikia approval/oversight (since, whether you like it or not, they own the name Uncyclopedia). -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 13:32, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. Take Down Current Store, and put one up right. Write a letter to wikia all official-style asking for permission to use the Uncyclopedia trademark(or whatever the hell it is. IANAL), and ask each and every person whose images you are using for their assent to putting it on stuffes. And make it all non-profit whatsoever. Or, quite frankly, I'd sue you myself on moral grounds. It's other people's work.     EugeneKay wuz here (whine thank)   13:57, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. I'm all for a store, but not when if keeps getting made without any planning, preparation, consensus, or evidently legal rights. Take the damn things down and do it right. Sig pic.PNG Unsolicited conversation Extravagant beauty PEEING 17:05, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Not that there's much profit on these things, but it would be nice to have a central Uncyclopedian Fund that we can use for projects. Such as the small winner's award for a forthcoming competition we're planning that we have struggled to find funding for. -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)
  6. Store? Okay, but keep it on the up & up with permissions from our wiki overlords & authors, 'choppers and whatnot (good luck with that). Just don't get gold fever. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 18:08, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. No thanks. - I'm fine with selling my Zombieche images by the side of the road. -- The Zombiebaron 23:11, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
  8. You should at very least take the store down for now and/or make it clear you're no longer selling, if only as a gesture of good faith. I don't think anyone's really keen on helping you make it legal while you still have a great big illegal thing sitting there insulting the license. --Strange.PNG (but) Untrue  Whhhy?Whut? How? *Back from the dead* 00:01, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

We Already Have Two Other Users With Stores

  • I've actually got one of the tshirts that KT produced a while back. And it turned me fabulous. -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)
    • Also, individuals can feel free to sell their own images anyway they like (without mentioning Uncyclopedia). For example, RadicalX has probably sold mugs to all his family members. -- The Zombiebaron 23:09, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Alright

Who do I ask in Wikia to get permission to use the Uncyclopedia Trademark?. Cause I already got a beta version of the store up and I want to keep the store running. --NXWave 14:53, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Uh... ask sannse. She's their "PR person" or something. Personally, I'd let it be a more trusted user, perhaps even a sysop, that sets up the store properly.     EugeneKay wuz here (whine thank)   00:04, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
It's not really a trademark issue as much as it is a license issue. The licenses in the images involved do not allow commercial use and Wikia does not own the content. The creators of the images used to make the items (such as the NRV symbol and uncyclopedia logo) do. If you want to use them commercially, talk to the creators to get their permission. --Sir Starnestommy Icons-flag-us.png (TalkContribsCUN) 00:11, Nov. 13, 2007
RCMurphy's Patato Logo is avaliable for Commerical Use, So is Mhaille's NRV sign. Still waiting on the Uncyclopedia Trademark by the Wikia CEO. --NXWave 02:08, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Meanwhile, take the store down. How many times do I have to say it? --Strange.PNG (but) Untrue  Whhhy?Whut? How? *Back from the dead* 10:12, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
So you've already contacted the Wikia CEO to ask permission? NX, why the rush? We need a lot more community input and discussion before we even reach that point. What's the point of contacting Wikia to ask for permission before the whole question's been put to a referendum on here? You seem to be addressing the issues raised one at a time rather than viewing this as a whole process. As I keep re-iterating, it's a good idea, but it needs to be done systematically and properly. Once there's community consensus on how this will work, then is the time to seek permissions and set up the actual store. Crawl-Stand-Walk-Run; that's the normal order of things. -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 10:23, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
What he said. But also, it's MoneySign's NRV logo, not Mhaille's, and as it wasn't uploaded with a specifically different licence, is covered by the same licence the site is. Meaning you can't use it commercially. Also, is your aim to make money out of this? That would definitely not be in running with the site's spirit. And your Custom Dropshipper shop still claims to be the official uncyclopedia store, when clearly it isn't.
Has anyone else contacted wikia, or at least talked to sannse or something, about bringing them into this, or getting their opinion? I think it's clear that most people think running a shop would be a good idea, but that it has to be done right with community discussion first. And it would help to have wikia in on that process. Despite how evil they are, obviously. Spang talk 22:36, 13 Nov 2007
