Welcome[edit source]

Terumvra greets you and bids you welcome to Uncyclopedia.

Greetings and well met, NERVUN, and welcome to Uncyclopedia. Thank you for creating an account and giving me this wonderful opportunity to send my minions through your refrigerator in search of quality mustard, and for your contributions thus far. I do hope you like what you see and choose to stick around. If not, the door's right over there, and we also have several strategically-placed windows, if that is what you prefer.

Now that you are here, these tend to be of use for folks like you:

Please remember to sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or use the "sign" button (Button sig.png) above the edit box. This will automatically produce your name and the date... unless Wikia broke something again. But usually they're pretty good about not harming the base functions. Usually.

At Uncyclopedia, writing articles is not a requirement, but it certainly is a fun and easy way to express your creativity. To write an article, it's recommended that you start it in your userspace (for example, User:NERVUN/Article about stuff) so you may edit it at your leisure. If you decide to create it in the cold world of mainspace, make sure it is in accordance with the policies laid out above, and if you're not done slap a construction template - {{construction}} - onto it as well.

There are plenty of other things to do, of course. Often articles will require proofreading, among other fix ups, and we could always use more reviewers, and for the more artistic of folks, there's the option of creating images to aid articles that need more images and making them prettier, for instance.

If you need help or have questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page, ask at the Dump, ask on IRC, or ask an administrator on their talk page. Additionally, the Uncyclopedian Adopt-a-Noob program is here to bring experienced editors straight to you.

Again, welcome!  1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 08:24, 10 April 2011

Funny and not stupid? Y/N? Not really a noob, I've got experience on several wikis including Wikipedia and Encyclopedia Dramatica. NERVUN 22:07, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
Well, on this one, if you vote on VFD, you've got to increment the count. Spıke ¬ 23:12 11-Apr-11
Oh, thanks for pointing that out. I didn't realize there was a count that needed incrementing. NERVUN 23:15, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
On that note. If you forget to do something like that make sure to check the "minor edit" box above the save button. It's there for just that reason. Jackofspades.png (talk) 23:16, 11 April 2011
So many things to remember! Mark minor edits, increment the count, sign your sig, account for changes in the summary, be funny and not just stupid, and above all don't shit your pants. I'm gonna lose my mind, how do you guys do all that stuff?! NERVUN 23:23, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
You'll see the count. You'll see on my user page (the quote at the top) that I also immigrated from a short stay at Wikipedia. Regarding ED, your secret is safe with me! But "funny and not stupid" differs from there to here. ED and Illogicopedia seem to love the freedom to put disconnected crap onto a page, whereas most articles here deliberately follow some sort of a plan, and many people here--you will meet them soon if you hang out on VFD--refer to the style of the other sites as "randumbo." Forewarned is forearmed. Spıke ¬ 23:19 11-Apr-11
I sort of consider Uncyclopedia to be a watered-down, realistic, less shocking, ironic-on-purpose version of Encyclopedia Dramatica. Does that sound about right? NERVUN 23:23, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
Most of the humor is more (nearly) adult, and I wouldn't call that "watered down." Irony, likewise, is only one of the many available techniques. Realism is my own niche (as in my recent UnNews:Government shutdown averted) but hardly universal. Shocking in the absence of humor is not welcome here. Spıke ¬ 23:28 11-Apr-11
By "watered-down" I mean the absence of "Offended," and things which adhere to the like. When not realistic (i.e. not lying),[1] conversely one can be ironic, which is what I see you (not you, you as in the site) have done with Creationism. The erectile dysfunction joke on the Encyclopedia Dramatica (website) page is so my humor. NERVUN 23:34, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
The erectile dysfunction joke is fine--and I wouldn't have hidden it in a link. AVGN I don't know and am not moved to investigate in order to either give you meaningless backing or spit in your face on our first meeting. Spıke ¬ 23:44 11-Apr-11
Uh, so do either of these options require action on my part? NERVUN 23:46, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
Certainly not. All I am saying (and I just rephrased it slightly) is that any opinion I'd give you would be meaningless at this point. Continue poking around and you'll be fine. Spıke ¬ 23:54 11-Apr-11
  1. For example, on ED, the line opening to AVGN's article is "... is a fat, basement dweller..." Anyone who's seen his videos or even a picture of him can see he isn't fat. In fact, he's rather skinny. I tried to change it, calling it an outright lie, and someone merely said, "Who gives a fuck?" and reverted my edit.
