Talk:Black Santa
don't remove the 'period/sentence stopper thingy' from the 2nd to last header. used 4 4mat-ing!
I'll be honest[edit source]
I'm not black, but my heart basically sinks reading this. I know what people are trying to do; I don't think it's working. In my philosophy, something funny is to be found for the subject, but I'm not yet sure what it is here. I mean, this material isn't entry-level stereotyping here, this is a freaking minstrel show. Of such an investment were possible, I would bet a great deal of money that not one of the editors is an adult African-American (of if so, that his/her edits were later overruled).
Yes, I know (well, hope) none of you actually believe the stuff about "highly corrupt", "army of prostitutes", "watermelon, menthol cigarettes, liquid AIDS", etc. That said, we can't just copy and paste the world's ugliest characterizations and call them funny out of out of our Gen-X irony (I have some too, just not for every context — Chappelle is awesome, for instance). We have to do something with the caricatures. Otherwise, who needs us? (Example to clarify: not funny would be "black people sure love watermelons!" even though it seems, like so extreme in our PC world. Funny would be something about how this one black guy likes them, but knows not to reinforce the cliche, or something. Not funny would be "the Holocaust didn't happen." Funny would be an authentic-sounding quote in which a survivor admits to making it up.)
I have definite hope that something can be done. So... what should it be? (I would probably deliver a longer rant here, but some of you may know I've basically already squandered that opportunity on another article.) Before you say that it can't be done, consider the article Niggers, which is a brilliant use of satire in place of stereotyping.
Wow, some ideas are already occuring to me with regards to Black Jesus... well, let me know what your are, if you like...—Lenoxus 05:24, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Addendum: I recenly encountered an editorial which shares many of my views here: It's Politically Incorrect So It Must Be Funny. — Lenoxus 23:57, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
From Pee Review[edit source]
I've got another one; in da holiday spirit. --AmericanBastard 11:44, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- Is it racist to laugh at this article? Because I found it quite funny. Sure it's stereotyped, but I still laughed. Maybe if you could make it take the piss out of racist people it would be more 'acceptable' (hold on a sec, this is Uncyc we're talking about here). Also liked the 'donations' pic. -- Hindleyite Converse • ?pedia 12:34, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm... I hate myself for roffling at this article. But I roffled. ~ Unflameviper Who's a Peach? 20:49, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm glad you roffled. I thought only Scoobie Doo did that, you wouldn't happen to be Scoobie Doo would you? P.S. any suggestions, comments, complaints for this article?? --AmericanBastard 07:50, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Humour: | 5 | some of the stuff in this is really laugh out loud funny, but the best bits are lost in a mire of random humor |
Concept: | 7 | It's a simple idea but powerful, festive blaxploitation tramp |
Prose and formatting: | 7 | 5/5 for good formatting, 2 for prose. plenty of odd typos and run on sentences |
Images: | 7 | The images are good on their own, plus the definitely add something overall, and they're even laid out nicely side to side |
Miscellaneous: | 6 | really good, but random in places and stuffed full of red links |
Final Score: | 32 | not bad |
