History[edit | edit source]
The station has roots dating back to 1957, but due to procrastination, it didn’t begin airing until the early 70’s. The exact date was lost media until very recently, when it was found in a Chicago Burger King.
As an independent TV station[edit | edit source]
The station began as an independent TV station in the 1970’s. Due to a Boeing crashing into the transmitter, it fell into the Mississippi River in 1979. The transmitter was later on found in New Orleans, where it was used for the radio station KAML. KAML was unlicensed so, eventually, KLJB got its transmitter back in 1980 after repairing it. This happened another 11 times throughout the early-mid 1980’s. Mostly, prisoners trying to destroy KLJB after the death of KAML. They later on moved their analog channel to 18, so KAML's 2nd incarnation: KRAP would take the spot.
As a Fox affiliate[edit | edit source]
In 1986, it became a Fox affiliate when Fox was forming to become the 4th of the Big Three. As a result, the station now had a bit more protection from those who were uprooting the transmitter. Under permission from Fox, KLJB and the new NBC affiliate, WDGA-LP, shared studios in Davenport. In 2000, the transmitter for both got uprooted yet again by a Big Chungus, BTS Stans in 2002 after WDGA-LP made a minor joke about BTS and finally in 2007, when a flood caused the transmitter to fall in a Davenport neighborhood, when the digital transition came around, KLJB took NBC and put it into a digital subchannel via a deal in between both NBC and Fox, but WDGA was still allowed to continue broadcasting in analog.
As a dual Fox/NBC station[edit | edit source]
As the years went on, it was decided to add new subchannels into the station. In 2014, 18.3’s Movies! Signed on. In 2015, Stadium and ShopHQ signed on at the exact same time. In 2018, the Station, WDGA-LP and WAWV-TV each got sold to Nexstar. In 2018, KLJB and WDGA-LP recieved permits to build a new broadcast location in Davenport. This allowed for WDGA to have better reception across the Quad Cities. In 2021, due to the analog shutdown, WDGA moved all programming to KLJB. Later on, Newsy got put on 18.3 along with Movies!, making it a dual channel. 2022, Bob Saget was filmed writing the Ultimate dirty joke, but died of shock shortly after on live KLJB television on NBC. In February 2022, WDGA Came back as a full-powered translator.
Syndicated programming[edit | edit source]
In order to appeal to kids, they allowed programming from stuff such as Spongebob SquarePants and Undertale: The Musical to be aired on a “block” known as KLJB Kids.
KLJB Kids![edit | edit source]
KLJB Kids! is a block originally called Please Wtach me! :( This lasted for 3 days in 1999, before KLJB realized they misspelled it. They then changed it to Please Watch me! :( which lasted from 1999-2008 before becoming KLJB Kids! The Station consists of programming mainly either syndicated or made completely from scratch at the KLJB Studios. Although usually it’s disgusting for everyone except kids because they don’t care.
