Forum:Rehabilitation of the VFS system
Hey folks. Over the past few years, the Vote for Sysop system has been abandoned in favor of using the Village Dump as a marketplace for admin/crat nominations, both serious and not. Recently, many forums concerning admin nominations have been created by vandals, designed to troll or sow discord in the community.
Prior to the wave of new nominations, a few admins had posited that we should hold a formal VFS vote. Now that the drama has subsided, I've cleaned up the VFS page based on input from other ops, which can be seen here. There are numerous improvements, including changes to the rules:
- IP addresses and nonestablished users can no longer participate
- No self-nominations
- It is now possible to nominate users to be de-opped, both in cases of emergency (anytime, for situations such as power abuse) or simply cleaning house (during the regular votes, for users who wish to relinquish rights, or general concerns)
...and the procedures:
- Held bi-annually (every March and October) instead of monthly (which was why the system was abandoned)
- Prescriptive rules were relaxed to be less... prescriptive.
By rehabilitating VFS, we are taking internal site matters off of the easily accessible public forum and returning it to its proper location. Our current system of using the Dump is not a good look for prospective users, particularly in light of recent vandalism and other events.
In addition, please comment your thoughts below on any additional changes you would like to see in the system, including to the rules and procedures.
Vote: Restore the VFS system, and give sandwiches sysops the justice they deserve

- For. I've been around for so long that I remember when VFS was originally on the Village Dump, back when the Village Dump was just one long page. We then moved it to its own project page, where over time the rules and regulations got to be too much, and the project page was turned into a sandwich award. Since VFS was abandoned the process for creating new admins has varied wildly, and I think it would be beneficial to return to the old project page with the proposed changes. -- The Zombiebaron 07:26, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
