Imports from Uncyclowikia[edit source]

Hey Romartus! I hope you have been well. Can you clarify the proper procedure for users taking content from Uncyclowikia and moving it here for a noob admin like myself? (I am not very sure on all the details.) Thanks! :) AimsplodeL A B O R A T O R I E S 02:33 22 March 2019

After the initial split in 2013, a bot was run from this site to hoover up all new articles created on the wikia version of Uncyclopedia. I complained at the time to RAHB. It was agreed that a user who created an article on one Uncyclopedia could import the same article into the other if it was their own work. If it involved other writers (i.e. for adding extra paragraphs, images etc.), they should ask those writers their permission. This policy worked for six years. So now (for example) you have Brexit which was featured on the wikia site but not here. If you want me to find the conversation I had with RAHB here, I will look for it. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:48, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
I can't find that particular discussion, I think it was on a talk page of an article that was deleted as a consequence. There should be a record of a bot importing articles from Wikia to here on your records in 2013. Trust that is clear now. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 10:26, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

Hey Rom, good to see you all editing on .ca. Would you mind unbanning me on both .ca and Wikia (for ol' times sake?) Thank you. AimsplodeL A B O R A T O R I E S 21:14 11 May 2019
I will run your request past the other Unc Spoons first. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 10:06, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

Question about fandom wikia[edit source]

It appears that the fandom wikia was deactivated. Do you know if it has a new host? Michael9422 (talk) 15:29, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Nevermind. I found the new site (uncyclopedia.ca). Michael9422 (talk) 19:04, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
Yes...though the old Wikia site has re-appeared. This may be temporary blip on the uncyclopedia time continuum...--Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 19:36, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Merger[edit source]

What happened? I thought everyone was coming over here! Leverage (talk) 21:03, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Long story short or short story long? Depends on what you mean as 'here' as we were going to be a separate site but hosted somewhere in the cupboard. Our back-up has become the active site instead. And Uncyclopedia.wikia has sunk below the waves..this time for good I think. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 21:16, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
This seems like a good enough place as any to dump this info, if only to direct everyone asking here so it doesn't have to be repeatedly typed out in Discord or anywhere else. Having spent the better part of this last year trying to arrange for reparations to be made with uncyclopedia.wikia, this is the best I can make of it.
The long story... Despite uncyclomedia.co winning the spoon's vote to decide a new hosting location, a small number of spoon admins recently decided over a private email chain to ignore the consensus and instead fork the wiki on a certain administrator's personal server, an option that gained 0 votes in favor during the actual voting process because the server in question was said to be too unstable and out-of-date to run MediaWiki in the long term. Romartus still gave Lyrithya and her team the go-ahead to begin setting up an import here that apparently none of them intended to use, rather than openly stating the consensus would be ignored. This was apparently done to give the illusion that the consensus of their community was being adhered to when dealing with Sannse and Fandom staff, as Fandom's staff were still thinking about handing off the uncyclopedia.org domain name at the time (no idea if they still plan to do this now), and openly going rogue would've jeopardized that.
The import at uncyclomedia.co was completed shortly after (previously seen at un.uncyclopedia.co, which is now offline to free up space for the many Un- projects that do actually want hosting), and they were asked to report bugs and decide on a better subdomain. Once they were ready to use this import, registrations and logins would be opened and they'd be able to start repairing any errors related to the large MediaWiki upgrade coming from Wikia, which several of our admins here (myself included) volunteered to help with. They acknowledged its completion and told Lyrithya to "stay tuned", and that was pretty much the last piece of communication anyone received relating to the import, up until several days ago.
Weeks went by, during which time we've had a number of users from their community asking for updates in our Discord server, while virtually all of the emails and messages sent to their admins asking for input went ignored. Finally, one of their users brought to the attention of our Discord that administrators from uncyclopedia.wikia were requesting more delays from Fandom and seemingly lying about Lyrithya being unresponsive. According to them, the import process still wasn't complete and no one was getting in touch. In actual fact, this particular message was posted almost 2 weeks after they were notified of its location. At the eleventh hour before the scheduled deletion, they put up a forum asking for users to add their name to a list to be notified of the actual new location off-wiki, out of sight from everyone they were duping. Later, it was discovered that the aforementioned admins setup a new wiki at uncyclopedia.ca, and after pressuring them to speak, we finally after many weeks received a reply about the hosting situation. Everyone here was told that uncyclopedia.ca was "only a temporary back-up" and rest assured, their plan was to still move forward with Lyrithya's hosting as previously promised. This was obviously BS, given the rather definitive "Uncyclopedia.ca is the successor of uncyclopedia.wikia.com" placed in their sitenotice before its discovery, and they continued pretending that Lyrithya's import would definitely be used, up until the very moment Fandom's copy was closed yesterday. The above message from Romartus is the first time he's publicly acknowledged uncyclopedia.ca as the active copy, while absolutely no one involved in this server has been told that their hosting is no longer needed.
The reasons they give for using uncyclopedia.ca are:
  • Lyrithya was unresponsive. She was in fact exceedingly responsive. Dozens of emails and messages were sent by her and others, and next to nothing was communicated back, despite literal pleas to reply.
  • The import was never complete. It was. They were informed on April 20th, and they acknowledged it almost immediately after with a foreboding "stay tuned."
  • The import was broken. An apparent error in the database meant that a few of their users saw elements from our content in the import, such as our logo and pieces of our main page, which was an obvious bug present only on certain pages and again, visible only to certain users. No one here knew about this because of the limited number of people affected, and despite being asked to report bugs, they waited until just before the Fandom closure to do so and it's now apparently Lyrithya's fault for not knowing about this sooner.
  • No one could edit because logins were disabled. The ball was placed in their court to come up with a subdomain and give the go-ahead before logins would be enabled. It would've been foolish to open the wiki up to literally anyone who wanted to edit without giving their admins an opportunity to prepare and greenlight it. Once again, they never did this despite being asked a number of times whether they were ready to set up shop.
  • The vote was filled with sockpuppets and therefor invalid. This is only partially true. To complicate these matters, about half of their community/active administrators turned out to be a single user shortly after the vote concluded, and it's believed he was using their wiki as a platform to entice young children and promote his dirty practices elsewhere for a number of years. His sockpuppet accounts heavily supported not just the move to this server, but merging with the fork here at en.uncyclopedia.co as well, apparently because our community is made up of a larger number of users. We discovered his arrest records shortly after grandfathering in all of their administrators as a sign of good faith, and we reported our findings to Romartus immediately, something we actually got a reply to. Discounting this user's votes from the consensus, Uncyclomedia.co would still be in a tie with Miraheze as the preferred hosting choice, and it just so happens that Miraheze is no longer a viable option (assuming it was ever viable to begin with). As a reminder, moving the wiki to the server where uncyclopedia.ca now resides was the least preferred option, coming in at 0 votes.
So after years of chastising the fork's community for conspiring in IRC to move the site in 2013 without communicating this plan to the userbase at large until the last minute, rogue admins from the spoon have ironically done exactly this. They've also exhausted every ounce of goodwill from the community members here who tried making up for for these past mistakes by helping them in this crisis, wasted the time of the volunteers who helped import their wiki here (as well as Sannse and Fandom staff, by repeatedly lying and asking for closure delays extending over a month and a half while the bugs in their secret fork were worked out), and they left their own community and the foreign projects completely in the dark about all of this, when they should have just manned up and told everyone sooner. All of this for a domain name that they may not even be given at this point.
The short story, because no one has time to actually read the above...

I might add, this site was created before those who came here were offered a vote about moving. The initial secrecy behind the creation of this Fork was that (to quote EMC/Hot Admin), was that Wikia intended to close down Uncyclopedia in 2013. They did close it down eventually in May 2019. The initial move vote was indeed twisted by Alden Loveshade and his army of sockpuppets. The Spoon administrators said publicly that we were going to back up our data on the old wikia servers to our own in case anything went wrong (technically speaking) with the move. Well apparently there were difficulties and with the clock ticking, the Spoon needed to make their own arrangements. We are not 'rogue administrators' but we are safeguarding our own work on the previously hosted Wikia site. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:25, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
