Work

You cast the single vote against my article on Work, with which, it may surprise you to learn, I agree: It does drag at the end. Section 1 is complete new material, whereas Sections 2 and 3 I merely cut back--not deleting in their entirety, as a sop to those who had gone before me. For example, the essay on Work in the First through Third Worlds originally meandered along until it got to about the Eighth World. Do you concur that Section 1 (with its subsections promoted) would now stand on its own as the entire article, and that I should delete everything afterward except the See Also? Since this has now been featured, I would leave it as it is for now. I think you did a pretty good job in getting it fixed and improved to the state it is now. I had another check on the article. It's main problem still for me is that appears to be more about work in the USA with the rest of the world tacked on . So perhaps it was better titled Work in the USA, an article about work in general would have to be more pseudo philosophical and I would have written something about work being the invention of Martin Luther in 1517 when he spent all night writing his theses against the Catholic church and then nailed them on a door. It sort of stopped dead as an article where I would have thought it needed a concluding paragraph to incorporate your other themes in the piece. Though there was nothing wrong with the Vikings etc incursions, I felt that there were really deserving to made into articles in their own right. I'd agree about a summarising paragraph. But i don't think there's enough scope for an article on each of these various peoples being wasted while fighting. The Great Teletubby War

Changed my mind and went to work on it; the theme is not just the Korean conflict but using a conflict to play the U.S. for foreign aid. Most of the listcruft, gassy munitions talk, and nonsense year numbers are gone. You may take a turn with it if you like, but the best illustrations won't be drawn from real life but will continue the pattern of gaily colored Shoopings that juxtapose baby toys and grim-reaper themes.

Thanks, I just saw your note and put the fix in on the use of the titles "Father/Fadda, you were right. The rest of the page does have kind of a rough around the edges speaking style, and the Tony Soprano example is a good one. Many of "dose guys" do talk like this (I've actually known some), although many are also professionals and speak well in public settings (real estate, attorney's, etc). But I figured the fadda from the Vatican could just relax (i.e. probably drunk before he got there, maybe I should make that clear, will do) and talk to his listeners in a looser style. Thanks for your kind words on the nom page. Very appreciated. The spacing changes you made actually scrunch the page on my laptop. Does it look odd on yours? (I did revert, and am going to have to look on larger screens). The spacing I have, and the long captions next to the photos, seem to work fine, as does the larger space in-between 1988 and present time (tick-tock). Those were actually built into the page on purpose. In my experience here it is almost mandatory to view the page on three or four different screens to see how things format. The format seems fine for most, so I wanted to check with you on how it looks on your screen. Thanks. This page was great fun to write. Nitpicking

I know there are different ways of using quotes (probably depending on language and/or area, I won't find out). I like to use the single quotes (as quotes) inside of the double quotes only. Hello, and no, not leaving, I literally meant "for now. . .until later", just logging off. Although not a bad idea, to leave the photons behind and play among the living from time to time. I, too, am a history buff, which is why I tend to favor articles of a historical bent (remember that Camera Obscura page, loved that concept and how the writer pulled people into the joke), ancient and modern. A page I'm working up now for example, James Bevel, covers an underreported but important historical American figure. Wish I was more proficient in the ancient histories, and even in the Asian timelines. And no, if I were a decent chap I would be feeding my starving family or getting my old mum her heart medicine, but they and she can do without for a few months or so at a stretch, but I do thank you for your kind words. I cleaned this up and finally renamed it, before deciding to record it. I added the paragraph about the NAFTA expressway because it is what he really sounds like--not vague paranoia but an extreme interpretation of facts. Likewise, your concluding paragraph--to the extent that it didn't merely say no information was available--guided the reader to the conclusion that Beck is insane. First off, if you have to explain the punch line, either the article didn't get the job done, or you are Japanese. Secondly, Beck isn't insane. He is merely extreme, and that is both the truth and the humor in this article. So is Obama, by the way. But calling either insane is merely a cheap shot, heard in various circles here in dead seriousness.

Needing a new ending, I fell back on my old favorite, portraying both sides as comparably weird; in this case, using a common theme of Obama's, that the only effective form of opposition to him is cooperation, plus a statement his aide actually said last year. Spıke ¬ 17:01 20-May-10
