Uncyclopedia:IP of the Month

IP of the Month badge

Since the debate over IP votes had more against than fors, I think we should thank the IPs that contribute just as much as us. Nominate your favourite IP & please remember, the rules are pretty much the same as Uncyclopedian of the Month so no multiple votes. I think this is a bad idea because it might actually discourage people from registering. Imagine you first find Uncyclopedia, read it for a bit, and then decide you want to contribute. You realize that it will probably be much easier to win "IP Of the Month" that "Writer of the Month" or "Uncyclopedian of the Month", so you start contributing a lot, but intentionally never register. --Composure1 14:40, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I dunno - it's very difficult to make an impression as an IP. There's a few people who we say "Oh, so-and-so made good contributions while they were an IP", but meanwhile no IPs stick on my mind before they register (apart from that pesky 127.0.0.1 of course). Of course, this means I've no idea who to nominate, but if anyone can think of anyone I'm all for a kind of unofficial recognition of their achievements. --Strange.PNG (but) Untrue  Whhhy?Whut? How? *Back from the dead* 15:37, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
This is good, although I'll touch it up a bit. What we really need is prizes. We know we'll have the fancy template one, but we need at least 3 others. --AAA! (AAAA) 22:15, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

We need less official-looking "... of-the-month" awards. The more there are, the less people get nominated for each one, and each will become more of a one horse race every time. Spang talk 00:21, 9 Mar 2007

/me makes mumbley agreement noises like you hear in parliament all the time. --Strange.PNG (but) Untrue  Whhhy?Whut? How? *Back from the dead* 08:28, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

I like the idea of recognising the contributions of unregistered editors, but don't i.p.s change? so someone's i.p. address could change and they'd inherit an award - jack mort | cunt | talkKodamaIcon.jpg - 00:25, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I agree. The sexy admin IP was 65.163.112.107, but it's now 65.173.105.125. Because of this, I'm beginning to think this is a bad idea... --AAA! (AAAA) 05:31, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Suggested prizes

  • "Treated like a registered member" --AAA! (AAAA) 22:15, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

          • Why not make ME a Admin right NOW ? I got Access to the coolest "scare the shit out of you" paranormal websites, such as two ghost related websites. "You" will NOT have to worry about being constipated - i.e. full of shit again - after surfing them. 65.173.105.125 04:24, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
            • Vote Triple "A" the most cool and sexy Admin and make ME a cool and sexy Admin. 65.173.105.125 02:16, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
        • I want this guy to win it, the "cool and sexy admin" man, I suspect thats why he's still hanging around, but you know, I don't mind him. I hope he doesn't get banned though for not registering, that would suck, get to contributing man!--Witt, Union leader.gif of Union member.gif UNion Entertain me* 02:55, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

The badge

Why no 48., whatever the hell Fisher Price guy is named? Is 12.0.0.1 Madmax or someone? Mr. Briggs Inc. 22:49, 8 March 2007 (UTC) Eh?

You mean 4.252.99.182? --AAA! (AAAA) 23:49, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
I personally think 66.33.236.61 is probably the greatest IP ever. Icons-flag-au.png Sir Cs1987 UOTM. t. c 01:01, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

These IPs are not current contributors. Do not nominate 'em. Current, Monthly IP users only. Spacer.gifSpacer.gifPremierTomMayfairChe.png RedPhone.png Unsoc.png Hammer and sickle.png 01:24, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Enough

I want to make it clear that this award is to be taken as serious as any other award. Would you make User SU182 Uncyclopedian of the Month? No and anyone doin' so would probably get blocked for doin' somethin' that stupid. So stop with the dumb nominations. Spacer.gifSpacer.gifPremierTomMayfairChe.png RedPhone.png Unsoc.png Hammer and sickle.png 01:45, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree. --AAA! (AAAA) 02:11, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
I wasn't intending to nominate anyone. I was just saying the IP who wrote Martin van Buren is cool. Icons-flag-au.png Sir Cs1987 UOTM. t. c 02:19, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

My $0.02

As I look at this award suggestion, I'm increasingly less convinced that it will be useful and/or effective.

Firstly, almost no-one can remember a specific IP address. Maybe if I'm watching Recent Changes, I might notice that a certain IP has made several edits in the past few minutes; but as for their contributions over the past month, unless they're vandalising, I'm extremely unlikely to check what else they've been up to. Secondly, the issue of dynamic and shared IP's is highly relevant; I can't see who exactly we're bestowing this award upon. Is it for any user who happens to be in the relevant address pool? The organisation that owns the address block? There is no way of saying that it is being awarded directly to one individual (even if the edits have been made to a particular article, this can often be the result of several students at a school editing rather than an individual), and this to me diminishes the other monthly awards, particularly if we consider this award to be on a par with them.

Finally, and most important I think, is that we want people to register. Yes I am opposed to restricting the site to registered users only, as in the spirit of inclusion anyone should be given the chance to experiment with the wiki; but if people like the place and want to be constant contributors, we should be actively encouraging them to register and thus gain recognition for their work. Thinking this award over, it just doesn't seem like a viable idea to me. -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 13:57, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Then huff it. I just got the impression from the other forum that IPs are just as good at contributin' as registered users are. And prehaps there are reasons that these individuals do not register. I'm not sure why they don't. Maybe they think they'll get hit with spam or spyware or somethin'. The award wasn't goin' well anyways. People just want to fuck it up anyhow. Don't forget to huff the shortcuts & templates as well. Spacer.gifSpacer.gifPremierTomMayfairChe.png RedPhone.png Unsoc.png Hammer and sickle.png 19:15, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

I'll add another cent and point out that mid-way through the voting for Mr. Most Impressive IP Evarah! that that particular IP could be reassigned to Mr. Blanking Spree IP and we'd be left with a lot of very confused voters, and no place to put an award no matter how deserving the orig editor might have been. Bone F clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 03/11 13:59

Hence the previous comment I made. Huff it. Spacer.gifSpacer.gifPremierTomMayfairChe.png RedPhone.png Unsoc.png Hammer and sickle.png 15:54, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
