I just noticed that people are no longer giving out ninjastars, cookies, etc. for hard work and good contributions. I have been reporting a great number of crappy articles and one-liners to QVFD and have never been rewarded for my efforts. (No, I am not looking for instant gratification.) With this in mind, I was wondering if we could get back into the mood of handing out ninjastars, cookies, and other little awards for good work and contributions. I'm not saying that this should be mandatory, but it could possibly encourage people to continue contributing in a positive fashion. --General Insineratehymn 19:29, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

It is something that I've noticed over the last few months, and although an award in itself holds little meaning, the recognition from your fellow Uncyclopedians is worth its weight in gold. I for one intend to start dishing out awards like candy. :) -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)
I too have noticed this matter and, trust you me, if I were active enough to know anyone worth getting them, I'd be awarding them left and right. However, since I'm not active enough to know anything, the rest of you people ought to be handing those things out like candy (with or without razor-blades as you see fit). --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 19:57, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Hindleyite gives out more cookies in a month than the Girl Scouts during a season fundraiser. Vote Hindleyite. ;-) ~ Sir Todd GUN WotM MI UotM NotM MDA VFH AotM Bur. AlBur. CM NS PC (talk) 21:27, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Hindleyite gives out Girl Scouts during season fundraisers? I always suspected as much. --Sir Hardwick Fundlebuggy - (Ring for service) 22:47, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I was recently awarded the "Bucket of Piss" award if that means anything. Mr. Briggs Inc. 22:10, 30 November 2006 (UTC) Eh?

I did one back in September. --Hrodulf 01:14, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

L has awarded you a Brass Bauble!
Now go wander around in the maze.

I just recently handed out my own personal award, the Nothing, to Squiggle. --Sir ENeGMA (talk) GUN WotM PLS 03:43, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

  • I've received a Nothing from ENEgMA and gave a cookie to ZombieBaron <avatar impersonation mode>Maybe this way I can keep him off my gray matter</avatar impersonation mode>. Can anyone make custom awards or you have to be promoted or something? herr doktor needsAV2 Rocket.gif [scream!] 17:32, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Anyone can make an award, but they're not considered "official" site awards, just essentially little messages of approval from one person, rather. The difference from an "official" award is there isn't a voting process to determine who gets one. A rare exception is the BENSON OF THE MONTH award, but that was really more of an award parody than an actual award, so it actually doesn't even count as an unofficial award. You should get the idea of how it works now, I think. Just remember there isn't really an organized system of rules for most of these little details, so you shouldn't be too worried about it.--Hrodulf 17:39, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Shiny brass anvil.jpg Tooltroll likes me so much, he gave me a shiny brass anvil!
I prefer the personal touch, so I've passed 7 of these in the last couple of months. If you think kidneystones sting, you've never passed an anvil. Yeeowch! And Modus gave me a cookie, and Hrodulf made me my very own custom userbox!  Sir Tooltroll, Esq. CUN  Eh?  Oh!  UnTunes! Cannabagreen.jpgI Card-hearts-up.gif my cat! 16:26, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Soviet Mayonaise Jar.jpg NeedABrain has awarded you a mayonnaise jar!
For you got the brains. In case of unwanted death, just have your brain tucked in and fill it with serum, formol or mint liqueur. If you can't wait, go tease a lion.
Now I've got mine. herr doktor needsAV2 Rocket.gif [scream!] 21:45, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Though I have been here but a measly few days I have today developed my own award, which shall be handed out ever so sparingly, the Squid Award. So far one lucky person has been the recipient, but who knows? --Ceridwyn 00:37, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Even though no one really knows who I am, I've already passed out one award, my Inspiration Award (which went to my first best friend) which I started giving to inspirational stuff. It needs fixin's. Oh, and is there a longest name award? Cause mine gets annoying to type when it comes to my templates and whatnot. love, gustav talk at menope 01:23, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Now checkit that mountain over there whilst I pee in your Pepsi.

But what's really at the root of this phenomenon?

This seemed appropriate, somehow...

It's an interesting question. A lot of it may just be the time of year, since the onset of Winter does put people in less-charitable moods. That might not explain it for the Australians and New Zealanders, though... It's possible that we're not making it clear enough to n00bz, or even people who have been here for 2-3 months, that you don't have to be an admin to give people cookies or even ninjastars, and that you can make up your own awards. There does seem to be an unusual emphasis on "rank" and "insignia" and "honors" here, which would seem rather odd for a website of any kind, but for one like this it seems almost... perverse. Almost as if the person who devised the system was trying, in some vaguely incomprehensible way, to create an artificial fantasy-based class system in which he or she could be seen as superior to others, perhaps just compensate for his (or her) real-world personal inadequacies in some way. I'd imagine that person would make a very interesting case, psychologically speaking! But either way, less emphasis on that sort of thing, and more emphasis on collegiality, cooperation, and reciprocation of positive encouragement in general would go a long way to making this a better website, in all sorts of ways. Who knows...? Then again...... it's probably just the weather!  c • > • cunwapquc? 05:44, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Aw bless, there still is hope for the future! As a sign of gratitude I would like to hand this award to some user! I made it myself, so be careful because the paint might still be wet.
Dutchy has awarded you a shameless self-plug!
Munchy munchy!
Dear God how do I stick a picture to this award?!?
Strewd, I am still stuck in the award box.
Okay, maybe this was not such a good idea.
Let's leave quietly before anyone reads this.
