Wii Party
Wii Party is a 2010 video game for the Wii that is basically Mario Party but with Miis. Featuring 9 different gamemodes and several minigames, you basically control yourself, other Miis from Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, and/or any of your created Miis. Unlike Wii Sports and its sequel, Wii Party got mixed reviews from critics. Despite all this though, it sold over a million copies, unsurprisingly enough. A sequel, Wii Party U was released 2 years later. In the future, there will be a Nintendo Switch Party, but that's unlikely going to happen.
Gamemodes[edit | edit source]
Board Game Island[edit | edit source]
Board Game Island is the standard game mode for Wii Party, as you and three other Miis have to traverse through an island. You will have to play a minigame at the beginning of each turn and depending on your placement, you will either get a gold, silver or bronze die. You will have to do six challenges in order to progress. The first challenge is to simply climb on a vine and depending on what you get, you will move a certain amount of spaces, and this is the only challenge in which you can't lose. The second challenge is to destroy a dragon wall and you will need to roll at least a 4 to progress. The third challenge is luck based and you have to choose either a crate or barrel bridge. The fourth challenge is that you need to roll at least a 3 to avoid going into the volcano. If you roll a 1 or 2, you end up going to the volcano and your progress will slow down. The fifth challenge is the spike ball, and if you roll less than a 5, which is likely, all other players will be fucked and they will have to go back 11 spaces. The others in the volcano won't be affected, though. The final challenge is to roll a 6 or higher. If you have the gold die, you will likely win the entire game and get the treasure.
Globe Trot[edit | edit source]
You're basically going around the world and experiencing new cultures when you are playing Globe Trot. This time, you will get coins based on minigame placement. When you buy vehicles, a vehicle will appear at your home depending on what you bought, such as a car. The countries you can go to in this game mode are Australia, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Germany, Japan, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Morocco, Singapore and the United States. If you have the Korean version of Wii Party, you will only end up in South Korea, but all the other locations are still in game. Depending on what version you have, you will start at random locations. In the American version, you will begin in the United States, in the Japanese version you will begin in Japan and if you have the European version you end up in Germany. However, if you end up in one of the locations, such as the United States, you will end up magically teleporting to that location in real life, even if you don't have a passport, but if you are living in any of the locations mentioned this won't affect you. This gamemode focuses on Hot Spots, which cost 10 coins to get. If you get any of the taste tour cards, the food will magically appear in front of you. For sightseeing cards, you will end up doing some kind of activity. Finally, for the shopping trip cards, the souvenir will magically appear like the taste tour cards. Depending on the version, some cards are different, such as when you teleport to Whistler Mountain in all the other versions but you instead teleport to Niagara Falls in the Japanese version if you buy a sightseeing card for Canada. Whoever collects the most souvenir cards wins and gets to go back to their home country while everyone else is stranded, which is why Globe Trot is the most dangerous gamemode in Wii Party. But if you win the gamemode in your home country, again, this won't affect you.
Swap Meet/Mii of a Kind[edit | edit source]
You will need to match Miis based on a certain type, such as having the same gender or color in any row. Based on minigame placement, players will be in order choosing which Miis to have in their platform. Whoever has the most points after a certain amount of rounds wins.
Spin-Off[edit | edit source]
Players take turns spinning a wheel to get medals. Pretty simple, right? Well, in the Korean version, because gambling is banned in South Korea, it's replaced with stars. Whoever has the most medals or stars wins. Basically, this is roulette.
Bingo[edit | edit source]
It's your average game of Bingo. Again, this is luck based, as you have to check Miis off of your cards. If a minigame ball drops from the bingo machine, players play a minigame and whoever wins gets to pick a Mii off their choice.
Friend Connection[edit | edit source]
Two friends will have to answer five random questions to see if their friendship was worth it or not. They get a better score if their answers are identical and if they're good at playing minigames with each other.
Balance Boat[edit | edit source]
Two players will have to work together to balance 20 Miis on a boat without letting them drown. If the players win a minigame, the Miis will be of a same size. But if they lose, the Miis will be of different sizes and will likely kill the other Miis involved in this minigame.
Match-Up[edit | edit source]
This is basically a 2-player version of Swap Meet, except the color of the Miis are hidden until they're chosen. Whoever has the most points after all pairs are matched wins.
Animal Tracker[edit | edit source]
An animal comes up on screen and makes a sound. You will need at least two Wii remotes. Whoever grabs correct Wii remote wins a point, and first to three wins. However, you could also put animal stickers on the Wii remotes if that's easier to you.
Hide and Hunt[edit | edit source]
One player will hide all the Wii remotes being used. Everyone else has to find them within a certain limit. But if one of the Wii remotes has a dead battery, you're not going to win in this case.
Time Bomb[edit | edit source]
Players pass the Wii remote as if it is a ticking bomb that will explode. You will need to press a certain button to pass to the other player. If the Wii remote is shaken too much or if the wrong button is pressed, the Wii remote will explode.
Word Bomb[edit | edit source]
This is the same as Time Bomb except you have to say certain words based on a given theme. If you do not say anything, or if you say a word not relevant to the theme, the Wii remote will explode as well.
Buddy Quiz[edit | edit source]
It is Friend Connection with two additional players. One person is the buddy, and the more points the players get, the likely that they are friends with the buddy.
Quick Draw[edit | edit source]
This is the only game mode excluded from all the other versions. You will need a deck of cards and you will need to match the card that's shown on screen. It's very confusing which is why it's not in any of the other versions other than the Japanese version.
Free Play[edit | edit source]
There's no other explanation other than that you can play all the minigames.
Battle[edit | edit source]
Two or four players face off in random minigames to see which one of them can win more minigames first.
Challenge[edit | edit source]
This is basically minigames that are more harder for players.
Solo[edit | edit source]
As the name suggests, you are the only one playing this. You will have to beat 5, 10, or 15 minigames to go to outer space. If you lose all your hearts, you don't get to.
Spot the Sneak/Rule Reversal[edit | edit source]
Among Us but it's Wii Party. One player has a secret advantage in a certain minigame while others have to guess who is the sneak. Whoever guesses right steals points from the sneak, but the sneak will steal points from anyone who is wrong.
