WPIX (Channel 11) is a television station in New York City broadcasting Fox and Chalk! to the New York Area. It’s Owned and Operated by Fox Corporation,a subsidiary of WalMart and also the owner of MyNetworkTV station WOR-TV. The station, After losing a lawsuit to WLVI has since put up satellite station WBIX-TV (Channel 13) in Wilkes-Barre to rebroadcast the station due to their long-time affiliate being bought out by Clorox. It now broadcasts a mix of The WNDK and Rule 34.

History[edit | edit source]

Under Casper Productions Ownership[edit | edit source]

The station was originally founded in 1946,as an independent under the moniker “PIX your nose!” and was historically known for it’s incredibly reliable news. This is irrelevant so let’s move on. In 1964 they transitioned to color. In 1979, They became a secondary affiliate with DuMont. In 1980 they dropped the moniker for 11 Alive. In 1985, they got purchased by Fox Corporation and a few days later in 1986 they became a Fox station and began phasing out 11 Alive.

Under Fox Ownership[edit | edit source]

The station dropped it’s secondary affiliation with DuMont in 1994 due to the fact that by then it shut down due to Grue's Clues airing on it. WPIX also became a new affiliate of Jewelry Television in 1997, airing it during nighttime due to most other stations dropping on nighttime programs. That same year, it also stopped phasing out 11 Alive, replacing it with Fox 11. once WOR-TV became under the same ownership in 2001,The 2 began cross-promoting eachother.

Digital Transition and Affiliation with Chalk![edit | edit source]

Due to the fact that WPIX went through the digital transition,It now had space to do some subchannels. In 2009, It immediately became an affiliate of Chalk!, as their previous station WCHY-CA remained in Analog and they needed a digital version so people can pick it up more easily. It also added a standard definition Antenna TV for the Boomers. In 2012 they began broadcasting Puntic and Qubert in response to the increase of children wanting television and because Qubo was in hot water due to allegations of Ion Media boiling Babies in hot water to fund their O&O costs. They also launched WBIX-TV as a semi-satellite in Wilkes-Barre to penetrate their noses into the market. Gradually, other subchannels were added such as Radar TV in 2018 and Virus Prevention in 2021 How ironic… were also slid in. The station is considered to have the 2nd most subchannels in the New York City after WKOB-CD.
