The British National Party or BNP is a mildly right-wing, nationalist political party of the United Kingdom. It is not currently represented in parliament, but has around 50 councillors in England. To the great surprise of the British public, in the UK 2005 general election its voters comprised only 0.7% of the total voting turnout, a remarkably low figure given their extreme popularity in the British mainstream media.
The constitution of the BNP states that the main aim of the party is "restoring, by legal changes, negotiation and consent the overwhelmingly white makeup of the British population that existed in Britain prior to 1948" and that this aim will be achieved by imposing "voluntary incentives for immigrants and their descendants to return home." Membership to the BNP is restricted to "indigenous British ethnic groups deriving from the class of ‘Indigenous Caucasian’", although some exceptions are made to those who are sufficiently amalgamated into one of those ethnicities, although the BNP's high standards require that candidates fit within certain criteria.
Policies[edit | edit source]
The BNP are well-known for their proactive and well-defined attitudes towards various domestic policies including British nationalism as well as homosexuals and black people. Their policies are also flexible enough to make specific allowances for Jews and Muslims.
Policies in education include providing extra funding and resources to enable especially gifted children to have a "secure future", as well as strengthening the curriculum to include an objective view of 20th century history.
The BNP also support traditional values, in particular promoting family values with policies that encourage women to stay at home as part of a traditional family unit.
International policies include support of the Bush administration's War on Terror and ensuring an even spread of the global population.
The BNP also have a number of ties to other political organisations, with whom they meet regularly to discuss policies.
