Rape culture is a trend that can be observed in society in which people actively celebrate or are indifferent to the achievements of rapists. Such trends in society can be observed from the very simple fact that sex offenders are allowed to join communities near families after incarceration or that there are people standing outside of prisons with signs picketing "Release all rapists, rape is ok!" Fortunately, third feminists, men desperate to get into bed with said feminists and other assorted fauna that can be usually found floating around University campuses have come to educate society with a concept that will. Just. Blow. Your. Mind: Maybe rape isn't ok after all.
Yeah shocking to hear isn't it? Isn't it amazing that these people have reached that deduction so quickly! You are probably lagging a bit behind their expert thinking, so maybe it's time to educate you on rape culture and why you are probably part of the problem.
Rape 101[edit | edit source]
But first of all, what is rape? Well, Websters dictionary defines it as: An Old World herb (Brassica napus) of the mustard family grown as a forage crop and for its seeds which yield rapeseed oil and are a bird food.
It can also mean: To force (someone) to have sex with you by using violence or the threat of violence.
Unfortunately this definition is highly out of date and neglects to point out some simple facts about rape that any intelligent person with a gender studies degree can tell you:
- Only men can rape. And anybody who says otherwise is an oppressive misogynist and rape apologist. If they are a woman they suffer from internalized misogyny.
- Only females can be raped. And anybody who says otherwise is an oppressive misogynist and rape apologist. If they are a woman they suffer from internalized misogyny.
- Rape can occur without physical contact and to say otherwise trivializes rape. And anybody who says otherwise is an oppressive misogynist and rape apologist. If they are a woman they suffer from internalized misogyny.
- We should teach rapists not to rape, because sexual sadists aren't aware they are doing something wrong. And anybody who says otherwise is an oppressive misogynist and rape apologist. If they are a woman they suffer from internalized misogyny.
