The fundraising track Do Islamic State Know It's Christmas? was written in late 2014, after the terrorist group's most high-profile year of activity culminated in the kidnapping of an UnNews journalist, Lionel Wimberley.
Into this maelstrom of fractious history, interracial relations, and religious intolerance, came Uncyclopedian Lev Everage.
He got to writing the track after realising that only Wimberley knew the password to the company's PayPal account.
Chris Martin, who asked to participate on the track but was refused, said, "It's that one lyric that gets me - 'If they live in a caliphate, do they know it's Christmas?' That hit me like a big punch in the nuts."
DO ISLAMIC STATE KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS?
- It's Christmastime; there's no need for war and hate
- At Christmastime, let's let ourselves love Islamic State
- And in this world of Jihadis, we can spread a smile of joy
- Drop your arms around the world at Christmastime
- Just say a prayer
- Pray for the hairy ones
- At Christmastime
- It's hard to know what's going on
- There's a plane outside your window
- That Ahmed's commandeered
- Cos the strongest thing he's had to drink
- Is the bitter taste of tears
- With no turkey, and no presents,
- You'd be killing people too
- So tonight thank God
- You're Christian (or a Jew)
- And there won't be snow in Syria this Christmastime
- Decapitated heads are all that fall.
- No wine or whiskey flows, and the girls wear lots of clothes
- Do they know it's Christmastime at all?
- Here's to you, if you fight for Islamic State
- Here's to them, if they live in a caliphate -
- Do they know it's Christmastime at all?
- Eid's no good...
- Let them know it's Christmastime...
