South African Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has revealed that the horrific level of HIV cases in the country's schoolgirls is a result of enterprising "sugar daddies" in the country.
The country has long faced an appalling HIV crisis with 10% of the adult population said to be affected, but the disparity between cases in the youngest generation - 4% of schoolboys versus 28% of girls - led Motsoaledi's ministry to do some research.
"It's the same thing what happens all over the world - the young boys can't get laid but the girls can. They have these young firm bodies, pert apple-shaped breasts, and a delicious mixture of girlishness and mature mischief... Sorry, where was I? Oh yes. Anyway, these sophisticated older guys come along, wait outside the school gates, take them out for dinner, and have unprotected sex with them."
"The only problem is that over here is that a lot of the 'sugar daddies' tend to have AIDS."
Fifteen-year-old Mafanwe Okonoku gave us the schoolgirl's perspective: "There is a lot of pressure to have sex with a rich man. We compare the gifts we have received, and the girls who haven't been given nice things get teased."
"I wouldn't say there's peer pressure to actually get HIV, but maybe your sugar daddy will buy you lunch if you have safe sex with him, but if you want lunch and dinner, you have to go bareback and risk it."
Local HIV sufferer and self-confessed sugar daddy Tsepo Nthethe told us, "I love these high school girls man. I keep getting older, and they keep staying the same age, yes they do, yes they do."
"And even when they leave high school, they don't get much older, because they die."
