This page is a member of the Uncyclopedia Timeline. If an event isn't listed in the timeline, it most likely happened.

Represented here are the time periods from the beginning of time to the end of time.

This is the main page for the Uncyclopedia Timeline Project.

Goals[edit source]

This project was started to solve a number of problems:

  • Get rid of lots of tiny date related stubs.
  • Draw connections between different time periods.
  • Get rid of "red links" when someone randomly links to a year.
  • Create a continuity of time in uncyclopedia.

How to help[edit source]

The timeline is very much still under construction and needs a lot of help:

Redirects[edit source]

This is the most tedious part of the timeline project, but also one of the most important. We need year numbers to redirect to the appropriate timeline article. For example, 2, 3 and 4 all redirect to 1 because the article at 1 currently covers 1AD to 999AD. If a number doesn't currently have an article, all you have to do is edit it and add #redirect [[x]], replacing x with whichever year you are redirecting to.

If you encounter an article that does exist, you will need to do something a little fancier depending on what exists in the article. If the article is about a year, see the section below on adding years to the timeline. If the article is about the number in question, move the article to x (number), where x is the number of the article. After moving the article, place a disambiguation note on the timeline page (see 1 for an example), go back to the original location of the article, click the small link at the top in the (Redirect from x) section and, finally, edit the page to add the redirect.

Adding years to the timeline[edit source]

If you come across a year related article that is not in the timeline, you can add it to the timeline. There are a number of different ways to add years to the timeline and which you should use is dependant on the size of the year you're adding and the size of the segment you're adding it to.

If the year is small and the segment is not too large, simply edit the segment to add everything from the year article and then turn the article into a redirect.

If the year is small to moderate in size but the timeline segment is getting unmanageably large, then you should add the year as above and then spork the timeline as described below.

If the year is large, then things are a little more complicated. You can add the year to the timeline and split as suggested above, or you can do what was done with 1927 and split around the year. To split around a year, add the timeline headers and footers to the year's page and then split the timeline segment that is should be in into to segments, one ending just before the year and one starting just after the year.

Sporking the timeline[edit source]

If a timeline segment gets too large, then it should be sporked into two smaller segments. Sporking a timeline segment is a complicated process and if you don't feel up to it, you can leave a note on the timeline project talk page and someone will probably get to it fairly quickly. That having been said, I'm going to be a little sparse on all of the technical details and assume that anyone sporking a timeline knows what they're doing.

Choose a year to be the sporking year; try to choose a year that falls near the middle of the segment lengthwise instead of choosing a year that falls in the middle of the segments time range because it will help keep timeline segments relatively uniform in size. It is also best to choose a sporking year that is represented in the timeline segment.

After you have chosen the year to spork off, you will need to move the contents of the timeline segment from that year on to a new page at a location that matches the name of the spork year (once the project is more well off, this will likely involve deleting a redirect). In the new segment, you will need to add the timeline header and footer, with modifications to match the the new segment. You will also need to modify the header and footer of the old segment to match its new time range. Finally, modify the listing on the timeline index page (this page for now).

Cleaning up segments[edit source]

Since most of the effort so far is going into dealing with the technical aspects of the timeline, the individual segments are a little messy and could definitely go with some rewriting. If you're not interested in doing the tedious work necessary for the technical aspects of the timeline, feel free to work on improving individual segments.

Improving the templates[edit source]

Again, because of the focus on the technical, Uncyclopedia:Timeline/Header and Uncyclopedia:Timeline/Footer are not as pretty as they could be, feel free to improve them.

A Unified style[edit source]

Since we're trying to create a unified timeline, it would be nice if the whole thing had a unified style to it. To this end, if would be great if we could get all of the segments cleaned up to look fairly similar, I recommend something like this:

=YEAR=
brief description of the year
==SOME OTHER HEADER==
some other information about the year, if it's appropriate
etc.
etc.
etc.
==Events==
* list
* of
* events
* that
* happened

Improving this page[edit source]

Of course, you can always go and improve this page. Although right now it serves mostly as a status/how you can help page for the project (and isn't very funny), it will hopefully turn into something better as the project becomes more mature.

Project Status[edit source]

As of right now, the timeline skeleton is complete and runs from the beginning of time through the end of time but there are a lot of lost years and very few redirects. Right now we are trying to deal with all of the years from 1AD - 2006AD, after that, we'll reassess the situation.

So far, redirects, moves and inclusions have been completed for: 1-1999. 2000-2002 all have a lot of information but it could always need improvement. 2003-2005 need help. 2006 needs some organization.
