Forum:Spam people called things like JamesBargman
I know it's not the biggest deal in the world to block these people, but they rather dominate our blocklist and are a pain.
I remember a conversation on here a while back to try and prevent these kind of useless accounts being made.
It was something about having an invisible field that little robots would fill out but that human users wouldn't (because they wouldn't see it), and any bot that automatically filled out all the fields would be stopped from creating account.
Would that work? Leverage (talk) 11:50, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- If such a thing exists/can be developed and would work, I'm for it. If they're automatically filling in CAPTCHAs or whatever then they should have no problem filling this in. -- Lost Labyrinth • (t) • (c) • (a) 16:21, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
I have an idea.
We could a verification thing, like with all those numbers or picture of dogs and one cat... if you see where I'm getting at. -- MagicBus Talk to me! 14:25, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
How about making a field that only humans will be able to fill in? An Uncyclopedia-type field. Such as this:
Maybe not exactly this, but you get the idea... Anton (talk) 16:29, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- I cant tell how many cows there are in that picture. Am I a robot?
- Definitely. Me neither, actually. That was just an idea. Anton (talk) 18:14, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- This is the kind of thing I was talking about: http://www.sitepoint.com/easy-spam-prevention-using-hidden-form-fields/ Leverage (talk) 18:28, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Probably won't work
We've got much more complex things in place, and yet the spammers still get through. I'm inclined to believe that some or all of them are "mechanical Turks". Sorry they've been getting bad recently; part of it is that I've been lazy. Lazy with what? I could tell you, but then I'd have to have somebody kill you. ~ Sun, Aug 31 '14 9:00 (UTC)
