Okay, here's the situtation: my parents went away on a weeks vacation and they left the keys to the brand new Porsche...Oops, just started and I'm already off topic. Start again...

Preamble

I like Russian Reversal. I know that that puts me in the minority, as it was not only a meme here, but it was a meme that was so simple, so diabolical, that anyone could do it.

Unfortunately for Uncyc, most people used it for evil. Bad RR's that either weren't funny or didn't make sense spread like a wildfire of cruft, much like, well, pretty much every meme, ever.

This lead to the gradual crufting of not only the interweb, but also RR itself. This was partly my fault: I, in the rutting heat of winter, let it lose focus...and added too many RR's of my own.

That lead to it almost getting banned from the internet, what with the NRV, VFD, etc.

Which let to a vicious pruning, a decruft so heinous I got pissed and left RR almost entirely. I still had it on my watch list, just to watch it run free...sigh. Of course, being RR, it promptly started to cruft...months pass and I get annoyed enough to come back and prune it to the pure centre of the rules of the russian reversal, because otherwise it would continue to cruft and eventually be NRV'd, etc.

Unfortunately there's an Anon IP that disagrees with my policing of the page, and he/she insists on doing the opposite of what I do, thereby creating a very slow revert war. Slow because he consistently blanks my userpage after RV'ing the RV on RR, for which he gets banned on a charge of dinkery. After a few turnarounds like this (enough to notice the pattern), the Anon Ip posted on RR's talkpage accusing me of dinkery, a charge I denied, posting a coherent point-by-point reply.

Then he tried to turn it into a pissing contest, editing his original edit (fiendish!) to make me look like a dink. Which I am, just not in this case. I, again, replied. Calmly and succinctly I explained my position again, even going so far as to apologise for removing an RR that, while not great, conformed to the conventions of the russian reversal. I even went so far as to add to RR, pointing out the general vibe of the RR (America=Free+Good, SovietRussia=Bad+Oppressive).

Which he RV'd.

So I'm here. Now. Sitting. That I'm being trolled by an Anon IP, I know. The problem is that I can't find my glasses. No, wait, my problem is that I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing. The murky clouds of doubt are clouding the other clouds, the ones that aren't so murky.

At this point it's just over one friggin' RR. That being:

“In Soviet Russia, UMD pops out from YOU!!”

I take it out because:

  • It's not funny
  • It's not a Russian Reversal (if, in SR the UMD pops out from you that means that in America you pop out of your UMD)
  • It's got link to a crappy video on a mediocre site of a UMD popping out of a PSP, and falling on the floor.

Am I being a dink? Should I just let it cruft, and let my inaction lead to the death of one of the few pages here that makes me flash back to the 80's? Why do I care too much? and where are my glasses, anyways? Modusoperandi 20:19, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

The way I see it, your case is already stronger from the start by virtue of the fact that you've bothered to register. Also, you appear to me to have the best interests of the article at heart, rather than just stubbornly insisting on your edit being "the correct one". I'm also not a fan of external links, especially to people's crappy YTMND's (aren't you glad already that I'm the admin who took an interest in this? ;-) ). Finally, the anon IP is guilty of breaking the first rule of wikis; m:Don't be a dick, due to their talk page edits, abusive/innacurate edit summaries, and not least the blanking of your userpage. As and when it happens again, I'm quite happy to range block their ISP for a while to let them know that their behaviour is antisocial. Their ISP appears to be PT Telkom Indonesia, for whom DNS info can be found here and here. With any luck, a short stint in the naughy chair might make them take a more reasonable path with future edits. And remember that Ban Patrol is always available for any abuse or vandalism you spot; although if there's a spree going on, you'll get a quicker response via IRC. Hope this is of help. -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 20:54, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, I mostly just needed confirmation that I'm not the bad guy. At least not in this case. In the case of State of Alabama vs Modusoperandi, however, I am the bad guy. Just don't tell the jury that.
As much as I don't want him there, I'm leery of range blocks as they block a range rather than just one (hence the name, probably). Wouldn't some nice Indonesian families get blocked too? I hear that Uncyc is huge over there.
If a range block won't crush the innocent, go right ahead. I'm not looking for a pissing contest but, as I got silver in the Olympics for that very sport, I think that I can go the distance, as it were. Modusoperandi 21:55, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Russian reversal is common there. Why is it so common for Russian Reversal to go there? Marshal Uncyclopedian! Talk to me!
Russian Reversal is like any other meme we use here. It's funny when used properly. Overuse it and it becomes bad. Crazyswordsman 00:44, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
...and when it's overused badly... Modusoperandi 00:49, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
...in Soviet Russia, dead horse beats you. Yup! --66.102.74.212 18:00, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
