Welcome![edit source]
Hello, Theoacme, and welcome to Uncyclopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If not, the door's right over there... no, a little more to your left... yeah. Anyway, here are a few good links for people like you:
- Beginner's Guide
- Our Vanity Policies - why we don't care about your friends
- How to be funny and not just stupid
If you read anything at all, make it the above three links. If you want to find out more about Uncyclopedia or need more help with something, try these:
- About Uncyclopedia and The five pliers of Uncyclopedia
- How to get started editing on uncyclopedia
- Help Pages - if you need help with a specific issue
I hope you enjoy editing here and being an Uncyclopedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or use the "sign" button () above the edit box. This will automatically produce your name and the date.
At Uncyclopedia, writing articles is not a requirement, but it certainly is a fun and easy way to express your creativity. To write an article, it's recommended that you start it in your userspace (for example, User:Theoacme/Article about stuff) so you can edit it at your leisure. If you decide to create it in the cold world of mainspace, make sure it is in accordance with the policies laid out above, and if you're not done put the "Work-In-Progress" template - {{construction}} - onto it as well.
If you want to write and don't know where to begin, browse our rewrite and idea categories. We have lots of articles just sitting around for someone to improve, so don't be afraid - dive right in!
If you need help, ask me on my talk page, ask at the Dump, or ask an administrator on their talk page. Additionally, the Uncyclopedian Adopt-a-Noob program is there to bring experienced editors straight to you. Simply leave a message on an adopter's talkpage to join. Again, welcome! --Sycamore (Talk) 11:09, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Before editing...[edit source]
An article you really should pay special attention to the welcome message posted above, and create your own sandbox to play in. And as you have noticed, edits tend to be reviewed and reverted when they add little or nothing to an article. If you need help, or want to bounce an idea around, just ask me. - Hi, First, once a conversation is started on your page, try and follow it on your page - it helps to centralize things and keep conversations from being tennis matches that flip from one page to the next. So lets keep the conversation here rather then her and my talk page, OK? As to your edits, generally speaking, once an article is featured, the winning text is locked down so that people can read it in its winning form. Deeply involved users, authors (in this case, me) who write the featured article tend to monitor these articles very closely to keep vandals from vandalizing it, and keep others from adding (substantial) changes that really don't work with the article that has already been received a seal of approval from the body, if you will. In your case - again, being brutally honest - your edits didn't add a whole lot. One thing that doesn't tend to live on Uncyclopedia are lots of lists - included in this unwritten rule are bulleted lists. (Over bulleted lists get erased even faster.) The other thing is that authors like me - and we're a breed apart - tend to be VERY protective of our articles in that we put a lot of sweat equity into them. My recommendation is that create a sandbox (code for a play area) in your user space (click on the hyperlinked "sandbox" here to access the space) and play with your text and style before deploying into a "finished" article. You are more likely to see your edits survive if they are well written and formatted correctly. ONE OTHER BIT OF SAGE ADVICE - if you are going to make it around here focus on your writing. I am a lousy writer, but I think I have a keen eye for satire and to my credit on my user page you'll see that I have received a number of awards for my writing (It helps to beg, too) but I credit the key to my success is my appreciation of satire. If you need anything else, just ask, OK? Dame GUN PotY WotM 2xPotM 17xVFH VFP Poo PMS •YAP• 14:32, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- Heeey, uh, I moved UserTheoacme/sandbox to User:Theoacme/sandbox because it makes the link more prettier. I hope this doesn't adversly affect the usage of said sandbox. If it does, my bad. Unsolicited conversation Extravagant beauty PEEING 14:58, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
