OK. That's very nifty lookin. I just don't know how we're gonna get the expression function (scores) to work with that beasty.

Hmm... I see your point (sorry I'm new on all this wiki-game business) Well, if you can think of a better use for this page, or maybe something I could do, please, do tell -- MafiaHatBlack.gif C.B.D. C.R. "Grieve" Tenenbaum
Whack it your impressive UserPage for now, Something that good shouldn't be wasted. You wanna help? well, I screwed up the deck.. so I'll fix it first, so it makes sense. Essentially, its a single suit game at the moment. the plan is to have it like this:

CARD SUIT CARD SUIT (each one chosen from a source) and a hidden value that #expr can work with to tell you the result of the hand.

No other cards can be drawn through MediWiki (as I know of). So any hands below 16 will have to be deleted (or modifyed) MafiaHatBlack.gif Mr. Lavrenti "Digits" Hex

What if we make the numbers A-K a <choose> template, then we add something like {{card1|{{a-k}}}} and {{card2|{{a-k}}}}, then on the bottom have {{#expr: card1+card2}} and then... hmm, sorry I'm just throwing random ideas out there... but it'd be like on the VFH template wherethey have {{fornumber}} and {{againstnumber}} with {{#expr: fornumber-againstnumber}}, except we just switch it around a bit... (sorry if you don't get it, i don't quite get it myself) - the problem would be giving numeric values to A,J,Q and K... -- MafiaHatBlack.gif C.B.D. C.R. "Grieve" Tenenbaum

I mean something like this: User:Regret Tenenbaum/Sandbox (at the very bottom) , but I don't know what I did wrong... -- MafiaHatBlack.gif C.B.D. C.R. "Grieve" Tenenbaum

OK that could work, but it's a right pain gettin' that workin'. My suggestion is to simply create the entire hand, include a result, and simply choose from a massive page of combinations. It's guaranteed to work every time. It just means an awful lot of work for me (and you if you wanna help out). It has the same result without all the friggin' around with that infernal wikicode. Essentially you've got your fancy cards for both dealer and player, with a predetermined win or Lose, with as many cards are required. I have a generator for the hands which I programmed myself if you want me to somehow send that to you. MafiaHatBlack.gif Mr. Lavrenti "Digits" Hex
I just realized how much work that is - 208 different combos, right? Well, sure I'll help, I wouldn't leave a fellow mafioso with such a workload. Um.... could you go first, though, I'm still not sure about how the whole thing will work. I still have a feeling that it can be done with {{#expr:}}, though, and I have a feeling it can be done through the VFH template. I'll try tinkering around with it.-- MafiaHatBlack.gif C.B.D. C.R. Thanks for you help. It's much appreciated, believe me. And not all of them have to be mapped out, just a few (say 50 should suffice). The trouble with the EXPR is that it would not be process the same numbers as the display, as the choose command is different for each instance. eg Q

If you can get it to work, all the more to you, but I'm fairly sure it's a lost cause. If you need anything, I'm usually hanging around or lurking somewhere.

So, how do we do this (i.e. do you have an example?) -- REGRETTENENBAUMIS DEAD TALK! 06:29, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
I was thinking something along the lines of
9 Q YOU: 19

7 A DEALER: 18

I see! I'll put that into template-form immediately to make it easier to use. Template:Blackjack -- REGRETTENENBAUMIS DEAD TALK! -- REGRETTENENBAUMIS DEAD TALK! 00:49, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
It Works! By the way, I have an idea for the shooting range: a simple flash shooting game, nothing too fancy, just the essentials.
A 2 YOU: 3

Q A DEALER: 21

YOU WIN!

Thanks For the Template, that'll make it much easier. Where did you want to set this baby up? Shove it my Userspace's previous version for now, and we'll whack it into the Club once it's done... MafiaHatBlack.gif Mr. Lavrenti "Digits" Hex

Sure thing. I'll start making the cobonations while I'm at it. By the way, didn't you mention you had an excel sheet or something with all the possible combos? Is it possible to e-mail that to me? -- REGRETTENENBAUMIS DEAD TALK!
Hold on I sort of have an idea - what if we make all the combonations of A-K and their score - for now, we'll call it Template:Blackjack1, with the score like so: {{{score1|1}}, so it can go into the {{#expr:}} template through TemplateY. I'm sorry if it's hard to follow, but I mean intsead of making all the combos of the four cards, we just make the combos of 2 -- MafiaHatBlack.gif C.B.D. C.R. "Grieve" Tenenbaum
I think Mapping out the hands is the best option, as it allows you to control the entire environment, as opposed to relying on the choose and expr. Also, a quick note, each player must have a hand over 16 and below 21 to be valid, so the current version in my userpage is not completely correct. Send an email to howellt@gmail.com, and I'll send you the file. MafiaHatBlack.gif Mr. Lavrenti "Digits" Hex
Got it! -- REGRETTENENBAUMIS DEAD TALK!

Ideas[edit source]

I was trying to think of an organized way of mapping the hands and I thougt we could start by making a list of all the combonations of hands that make 16-21 - Template:Blackjack/Combos

A|5|16
A|6|17
A|7|18
A|8|19
...

Then just copy/paste them into the template. By the way, how should we make Template:Blackjack able to deal with 3-card combos? -- REGRETTENENBAUMIS DEAD TALK! 01:52, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

or

We could somehow program a bot to do it

or!

You could try this ("...this allows a CSV export from Excel to be pasted in without having to manually edit it into Wiki table syntax.") -- REGRETTENENBAUMIS DEAD TALK! 04:19, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

For the 3 card Template, simply copy the current 2 card temple, and add another card section, with another input field. It should be simple as pie -- =Hex= TALK: WORKSHOP: CONTRIBUTIONS: Icons-flag-au.png 08:57, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
