Since some of the other judges are doing it, I'm rating all the PLS Best Article nominees using the standard Pee Review template. Note that higher scores on the template do NOT necessarily mean an article ranked higher on my final decision - on the template, for example, the Humor rating carries the same weight as the Prose/Formatting field, but for me Humor is definitely the most important characteristic. These ratings are mainly just for feedback and so that people don't accuse me of picking my choices from a hat (though you can't prove that I didn't).

Also, all articles get a Miscellaneous score of 10 because I don't like that criterion. If you want, take out the Misc. score entirely and take the total out of 40.

User:TheLedBalloon/The nonexistent page[edit | edit source]

Humour: 5 Kind of one-trick ponyish, though thankfully it didn't try to drag the premise on through pages and pages.
Concept: 5 Not terribly original.
Prose and formatting: 8 Clean formatting for the most part, although a bit too much bolding.
Images: 7 Both images work well within the context of the article.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 35 As I said above, it's rather gimmicky, but as gimmicks go it isn't bad.

User:Leatherboundbooks/Polo[edit | edit source]

Humour: 6 It has its moments. Could be tightened up considerably, though.
Concept: 6 Not a new joke, but expands on the old joke nicely.
Prose and formatting: 5 Somewhat cluttered.
Images: 7 For the most part the images fit the article, but they are very small.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 34 Fairly solid.

User:Thekillerfroggy/How much can YOU take!![edit | edit source]

Humour: 8 Honestly, I expected to dislike this article after I read a few sentences just because this kind of thing can get old (imagine watching Borat... twice in a row), but it has enough variation to keep it lively.
Concept: 7 I'm a fan of MXC. I enjoy ridiculous things like this in moderation.
Prose and formatting: 5 I realize it's kind of necessary, but the formatting is just hard to read.
Images: 7 Solid, not extraordinary. I just saw Audition recently so the razor wire image gets +1.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 37 Does the pidgin-speak gag better than most articles.

User:Ikabu/Alien Invasion[edit | edit source]

Humour: 8 Solid. Lasts just long enough.
Concept: 8 Quite original for an Uncyc article.
Prose and formatting: 8 Well done for a "talking" article, but it loses points for overuse of big, bold text and footnotes. I hate footnotes in Uncyc articles.
Images: 8 I like the contrast between the weird alien script and the relatively normal images of pineapple and an idyllic field. Is good.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 42 One of the most original PLS entries.

User:MaxMangel/Online Dating[edit | edit source]

Humour: 7 Not terribly creative, but solid.
Concept: 7 I like the approach here. A regular article format may not have worked as well.
Prose and formatting: 7 Full of lists, but for the most part (and unlike most articles) they work.
Images: 7 Good variety, but pretty typical and unsurprising.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 38 Probably nothing the typical internet denizen hasn't seen in some form, but nicely collected together in a mostly-cohesive form. I like the Approaches.

User:15Mickey20/Big Brother (UK television series)[edit | edit source]

Humour: 8 It's really quite funny if you can puzzle it out.
Concept: 8 I'm all for mocking reality-tv fanpersons.
Prose and formatting: 6 The article is designed around the textspeak. I know. But that doesn't make it easier to read. Kind of a catch-22 here.
Images: 8 Good use of images. They supplement the article without being overbearing.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 40 It's funny. I felt like I was reading a Big Brother fansite forum.

User:Cs1987/Superannuation[edit | edit source]

Humour: 7 I don't have any major problems with it. Good solid article.
Concept: 7 Economics plus world domination is a fun combination.
Prose and formatting: 9 Beautiful organization. Simple, clean... if only other people used this as a template.
Images: 8 Really good mix of images - a photo, a chart and a photoshopped image (although this last has some issues - but they don't hurt the page as a whole).
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 41 Good stuff. And a generally nice Uncyclopedic tone that I wish more articles had.

User:Prettiestpretty/The Red Balloon[edit | edit source]

Humour: 6 Funny in a quiet way. Too many cliches about Frenchness. Frenchosity.
Concept: 7 Unfortunately I haven't seen the film, but there's enough given in the article that I get the gist.
Prose and formatting: 6 Quotes! Hate! Besides that, it's all good.
Images: 7 The first image is good. The second, well... could use some tweaking.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 36 Good, tightly written article.

User:Kingkitty/Pokemon Adventure[edit | edit source]

Humour: 6 I get all the Pokemon jokes. I'm not sure what that says about me.
Concept: 7 I have no problem with reimagining Pokemon in a setting a bit more... risque? Edgy?
Prose and formatting: 5 Too much bold text. The images could be spaced out.
Images: 6 I wish there were images other than the Pokemon lineup. A photoshopped Pokemon screenshot could've done wonders.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 34 Good concept but it needs some tightening up and some grammar editing.

User:Mordillo/Jewish Holidays[edit | edit source]

Humour: 9 I'm not Jewish and I found a lot of humor here. Very accessible.
Concept: 9 I'd love to see some other articles in this series... Hindu Holidays?
Prose and formatting: 6 Too many headers make Jack a blind boy. Needs a TOC as well.
Images: 8 Really good variety in the images, though some original ones would be nice.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 42 Excellent. The only real problem I have with it is the formatting.
Reviewer: rc (t) 00:16, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

User:Bradaphraser/cyanide[edit | edit source]

Humour: 8 It's funny throughout, but the joke gets a bit thin. Could be trimmed a little.
Concept: 8 It's mainly one joke but it's a good enough joke to sustain the article, and there is some variation.
Prose and formatting: 9 Lovely. Good formatting makes me weep for joy.
Images: 7 The first image is great. The second just seems like filler, honestly.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 42 Good funny, good formatting and good Uncyclopedic tone.
Reviewer: rc (t) 00:16, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

User:Tomtyke/Shit Hits The Fan[edit | edit source]

Humour: 8 Covers a variety of themes but the humor works the majority of the time.
Concept: 9 I have a weakness for overblown analyses of things like this.
Prose and formatting: 8 Could use an image at the top, and there are a few too many headers for an article of this length.
Images: 7 They're on topic, but also kind of ugly.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 42 Could use some tightening, but it's humorous throughout.
Reviewer: rc (t) 00:16, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

User:Alksub/Citizen's Advertising Consortium[edit | edit source]

Humour: 8 Smart humor is good humor.
Concept: 9 Great satirical take.
Prose and formatting: 8 Aside from that ugly quote, solid structure.
Images: 7 Both images work. It could use one or two more.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 42 I felt a bit smarter after reading this article, which is always a good sign.

User:The Number-One ALF Fan/Atomic Mass[edit | edit source]

Humour: 9 Love it! A great mix of scientific and religious elements (har) that is intelligently written and apparently well-researched.
Concept: 10 Come on! "Atomic mass"? Brilliant! By far my favorite concept of all the PLS entries.
Prose and formatting: 8 Well-formatted considering the wealth of information here, and I like the helpful Wikipedia links. Could be tightened up a bit.
Images: 8 The History pictures are well-placed and their captions are good. The other images are satisfactory.
Miscellaneous: 10
Final Score: 45 Just excellently done. Great concept and the writing lives up to the potential.
