This page was commandeered and amended from User:SysRq/Imperial Colonization and User:Why do I need to provide this?/Imperial Colonization. This is the third edition of the rules for Imperial Colonization, as revised by the Senate of the Goa Tse Clan, sponsored by WHY (We Hate You). If you have suggestions for changes and improvements, you're welcome to post them here. Or here
Imperial Colonization Rules and Guidelines
“Ahoy, me hearties! Imperial Colonization has been commandeered! And by official letter of marque of Her Majesty's Royal Navy, ye swabs! ARRRR!”
Enough of the phoney pirate speak, because we are now an army. Before we begin, let's define some terms.
- Colonization: The act of revitalizing a preexisting article and bringing it up to Uncyc quality standards.
- Imperial Colonization (IC): A group of users that is responsible for choosing, organizing, and writing these colonizations.
- Colonizer: If you join, you.
Our mission statement[edit | edit source]
“ | To write new articles and rewrite existing articles. To rid Uncyclopedia of the unfunny bourgeoisie articles. To establish a world order with Comedy. | ” |
Membership requirements[edit | edit source]
- Be a registered Uncyclopedian.
- Be familiar with Uncyclopedia (newcomers are welcome, but please read HTBFANJS).
- Agree to edit constructively and in a spirit of collaboration (a little rivalry and disagreement are fine; egregious infighting isn't).
- Apply for membership.
- Don't be a dick.
- Once you're a member, you may start editing the current colonization.
How Colonization works[edit | edit source]
Colonization (euphemism for destroying the entire article to be rewritten from scratch) was once, optimistically, a week-long process. Then it's been expanded to two months to give our busy editors a bit more time. Now we have expanded it to one article per three months.
WEEK ONE: Nominations and voting[edit | edit source]
The first step in Colonization is the selection of two articles. Any Colonizer may nominate an article that:
- Requires immediate attention (i.e. it sucks)
- Is one casual readers are most likely to come in contact with or look up (i.e. Transformers, God, You)
- Has been deleted because the article originally written required immediate attention, but nobody cared about it, so it's deleted.
Articles may be nominated and voted on throughout the week, beginning on a Sunday. A minimum of four (4) votes are required to be chosen. At midnight GMT on the following Sunday (or shortly thereafter), the two top articles will be taken from the queue and chosen as the new Colonization. The Head Priest or General has the final say on all article votes, and reserves the right to pick whether he chooses in case two or more articles are tied. If there are less than four votes on the article by midnight GMT on the following Sunday, there will be a two-day revote. If there are less than four votes two days later, then the Head Priest and the General chooses the article to be written or rewritten as he wishes. A Colonization page is then created at Uncyclopedia:Imperial Colonization/project. More on the formatting of Colonization pages later.
All registered IC members are allowed to vote for as many articles as they like at any time during the week. However, each member of Imperial Colonization is expected to participate in any Colonizations that they vote for.
Hint: When looking for articles to nominate, try checking this, this and especially this. I want people to look at requested articles because this could be potential for The Article Whisperer.
Protocol for nominating an article for Colonization[edit | edit source]
- Add {{VoteCOTW}} to the top of the article
- Add the article to the bottom of The current queue using a level three header.
- Example: if you wanted to nominate the article Buccaneer Batman for Imperial Colonization, you would write
=== [[Buccaneer Batman]] ===
Protocol for making an article Colonization (after 12AM GMT on Sunday)[edit | edit source]
This section is for reference purposes only--the Buccaneer Admiral or an assistant will take care of this
- Change the {{VoteCOTW}} at the top of the article to {{CotW}}
- Cut the nomination from the main page
- Paste the nomination under its appropriate header at Uncyclopedia:Imperial Colonization/Archive
WEEK TWO: Concept, development, writing[edit | edit source]
Sunday - Wednesday: Concept and development[edit | edit source]
During these four days, ideas are hashed out at Uncyclopedia talk:Imperial Colonization/project. The discussion is always geared towards what sort of concept the articles to be destroyed will have. On the main Colonization page, a general outline from these ideas will be compiled and posted within a few hours after 12AM GMT Wednesday. Other things that can happen during this planning phase include deciding which participants will be working on which sections. Participants also has the choice of what article they want to help in. Once the participants chose the article of their choice, they are expected to write in the article they chose only, and cannot drop out from the article. Seriously, you made your bed, you lay in it.
Thursday - Saturday: Writing[edit | edit source]
During these three days and/or during the first day of Week Three, all members of Imperial Colonization that voted for the week's Colonization are expected to participate in writing the articles. Teams are separated in two, with one half writing one article and the other half writing the other article chosen. They are also expected to follow the outline that was agreed upon for that Colonization. Other Imperial Colonizers may participate if they wish, so long as they adhere to the outline.
WEEK THREE: Writing and evaluation[edit | edit source]
Sunday - Friday: Writing[edit | edit source]
During these six days, writing continues as described above.
Saturday: Evaluation[edit | edit source]
On Saturday, finishing touches are made to the articles. The articles are then sent to Pee Review where a member of PEEING will review them and give the articles a score. Nominating the articles for VFH is optional, and is usually best left to the reviewer (who must not have had anything to do with that Colonization). Should the articles be nominated for VFH and eventually featured, all participants will receive one half of one feature credit (in regards to UN:HS).
FORTNIGHT CLAUSE[edit | edit source]
If Saturday rolls along and it is apparent that an article is not going to be completed in time, the Head Priest may declare that the Colonization will extend for another week. Alternatively, a majority vote on the talk page may extend a Colonization for another week.
No two articles will remain as the current Colonization for more than six weeks. If it's not done by then, it will be removed (or moved to the user space of a user that wants to work on it).
How Colonization Pages work[edit | edit source]
When an article is selected, all work for that Colonization happens on the Colonization Page. The talk page is for discussion and planning. The Colonization Page is where both the outline and the article is written. After a Pee Review, Colonizers will have a limited amount of time to make improvements, if any (this will be announced at that time on the colonization talk page). After that, an admin helps move the Colonized version to the existing article. (Do not try to do this yourself! There is a way to preserve both histories and it is important that the history is preserved. You have to be an admin to combine histories.)
How Imperial Colonization evolved[edit | edit source]
Imperial Colonization used to be an abstract corner of Uncyclopedia where anyone could come and contribute as much or as little as they wanted to any Colonizations. Now, Imperial Colonization refers to a usergroup that is organized and has a clear purpose: to improve articles that are relevant and likely to be found by casual readers. Remember, Colonization is restricted to members of Imperial Colonization.
Joining Imperial Colonization[edit | edit source]
See Membership requirements above. Odds are, if you're not Buccaneer Batman, you'll get in.
Ranks[edit | edit source]
Within Imperial Colonization, members can rank up by participating in Colonizations. There are seven ranks that can be achieved by participation:
- Monk or Nun (MON): Any registered Colonizer
- Proletariat (PRO): Completed 1 Colonization
- Lieutenant (LIEU): Completed 7 Colonizations
- Captain (CPT): Completed 14 Colonizations
- Major (MAJ): Completed 21 Colonizations
- Colonel (COL): Completed 35 Colonizations
- Secretary (SEC): Completed 42 Colonizations
There are also:
- Missing in Action (MIA), which describes the former Fleet Admiral (FAD) (now Premier), who was lost at sea and not made to walk the plank by some buccaneer who wanted to take over. Really.
- Premier (PRE), which is the commander-in-chief of Imperial Colonization.
- General (GEN), the second in command to the Premier.
- General Secretary of the IC (ESEC), the third in command to the Premier (currently in semi-retirement).
Conclusion[edit | edit source]
This is a basic frame for Imperial Colonizations, as well as a general guide for Colonizations. This is a third edition, and these rules are subject to change. However, no matter how much these rules may change, there are a few last words to keep in mind when Colonizing:
- Always work in the spirit of preserving and improving the wiki,
- Always work with your fellow Colonizers instead of against them, and
- Always work! (Well, work when you say you're going to work.)
If you have comments or ideas for improvement to these guidelines, feel free to discuss them here.
Thank you for reading this guide! Happy Colonizing!
