Turing Duck Test[edit source]
I'm wondering if this one might ultimately be VFHable. How can I improve it? --Hyperbole 03:01, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Humour: | 8 | Well I laughed out loud, so it must be funny. The observations on the subjects was very cleverly done. I saw the gag coming with subject A, but then you turned around and surprised me with subject B. Very nice bait-and-switch. |
Concept: | 8 | I saw the title and frankly I didn't expect to understand the article. I was expecting some impenetrable maths geek gags. Instead, I found an article that was funny and accessible to someone who knows very little about Turing or his test.
How to improve it, though... well going on in the same vein (Turing dog test, Turing cheese test) would be predictable. How about attempts of later researchers to create ducks that can pass the test? Or an experiment to prove that you can't tell humans from ducks if you first brainwash the humans into believing that they are ducks? Or the infamous Stanford Pond experiment? Or what are the practical uses of this test? Do major poultry companies hire Turing duck test consultants? What about bird flu? Just a few ideas. There's a lot of ways this could go. |
Prose and formatting: | 9 | I liked the prose - clearly and lucidly written, and with a dry, encyclopedic tone that emphasises the silliness. I don't see any terrible spelling or grammar errors. |
Images: | 5 | The picture is relevant, and the caption is amusing, but not hilarious. How about a diagram of the difference between a duck and a person? Or there's a great little black and white diagram of the Turing test on Wikipedia that could easily be adapted.[[1]] |
Miscellaneous: | 7.25 | Averaged |
Final Score: | 37.25 | You wondered if this was VFH-able. I don't think it's quite there yet, but it's very close. Extend it a little with variation, add another image or two and I'd certainly vote for it. |
