Adrian Peterson's child's injuries were said to be "typical for a linebacker".

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson only physically attacked his four-year-old son because he believed the child had recovered a fumble that Peterson had made in a non-existent game.

The star's agent explained to UnNews: "Adrian has been taking blows to the head ever since he was in junior high.

"Sometimes he believes he is playing a game when he is, say, taking care of his son, watching a movie, or eating with friends.

"I invited him to a family cook-out last year, and he grabbed my hotdog, ran with it to the end of the garden, and spiked it into the ground."

The revelation does much to explain Peterson's behavior, which has scandalized many Americans, especially since images of the child's injuries were published. It also helped to explain Peterson's initial statement after the incident: "I was disappointed to fumble the ball - I always am. But I have always said, 'Hey if you get the ball off me, I'ma get you back'."

Now, piecing the evidence together, it appears Peterson believed it was 2nd and 5, with the ball on the Vikings 35 yard line, when he "fumbled the ball". Peterson ran all over the house looking for the "ball", before returning to the lounge, where his son was. Mistaking his son's sippy cup for a football, he launched himself at the child, who in turn fumbled the "ball", allowing Peterson to recover it after engaging the 4-year-old in what can be best described as "unnecessary roughness".

"It's first and ten on the 41," the running back Tweeted, who dismissed his son's injuries, saying, "It's part of the game, we all know the risks."
